Ray-Ban is an eyewear brand owned outright by EssilorLuxottica, whose 2024 registration document groups it with Persol, Oliver Peoples and Oakley as acquired and proprietary brands, apart from licensed names such as Giorgio Armani or Prada. On a public mirror of the Indian register the Ray-ban device mark, No. 711144 in class 9, stands to “Luxottica Group S.P.A” with the status “Registered”.
In India the goods come in through Luxottica India Eyewear Private Limited of Gurugram, and the brand’s own shop, india.ray-ban.com, is run by Moda Optics Private Limited of Bengaluru. On 26 September 2026 every product page read on that shop printed Country of Origin: Italy and priced the RB3025 Aviator Classic at ₹12,790. On a large Indian fashion marketplace the same day, 20 Ray-Ban listings declared India on 12, China on 5 and “China,India” on 3.
Ray-Ban belongs to EssilorLuxottica as a proprietary brand, not a licence; Luxottica bought it in 1999. In India it is imported by Luxottica India Eyewear Private Limited, CIN U32507HR2007FTC037390, and sold on the brand’s own Indian store by Moda Optics Private Limited of Bengaluru. An RB2140 Wayfarer cost ₹12,790 on india.ray-ban.com on 26 September 2026 against $191 in the United States. Sunglasses carry a two-year warranty from the importer; returns run three days, refunded by Moda Optics.

Who owns Ray-Ban
Ray-Ban is not a name rented out for a royalty. The owner’s 2024 registration document, read from a document mirror, calls it “Ray-Ban, the most-loved eyewear brand in the world” and files it among the brands it bought. On 28 April 1999 Bausch & Lomb sold its sunglasses business to Luxottica for US$640 million: “The brands being sold, in addition to Ray-Ban, are Revo, Arnette and Killer Loop.” On 1 October 2018 Essilor and Luxottica combined into EssilorLuxottica. No later change of control was read.

Public mirror of the Indian trade-mark register, read 26 September 2026. A second application number, 640377, appears in search results with no class, proprietor or status published.
A register row records an application, not a factory or an authorised shop. Class 9 is the right class, and the goods wording runs to “Sunglasses, Shooting Glasses, Eyeglasses, Spectacles, Goggles, Lenses And Frames” and their cases. Luxottica Group S.p.A. is named as the Indian site’s copyright holder, the Meta warranty provider and the recorded proprietor of the mark.
Owner revenue is not brand revenue. EssilorLuxottica reported €28,491 million for the year ended 31 December 2025, “+11.2% at constant exchange rates”, and €14,818 million for the six months ended 30 June 2026, up 5.7% as reported and 9.7% at constant exchange rates; none of it is Ray-Ban alone, and India appears once, as a market:
India and South Korea emerged as top performers, growing at a double-digit pace at constant exchange rates
EssilorLuxottica, Q4 and full-year 2025 results release, period ended 31 December 2025; read 26 September 2026. Asia-Pacific full-year revenue is €3,410 million; no India revenue figure appears in anything read.
The half-year release does not mention India, and the registration documents mention it for philanthropy and research only, naming no Indian subsidiary and no Indian plant. The importer’s register sub-category, “Subsidiary of company incorporated outside India”, confirms a foreign parent without saying which.
How Ray-Ban reaches India
The route is the owner’s own importer and a separate Indian retailer, not a licensee holding the brand. Luxottica India Eyewear Private Limited reads “Active” on one register mirror and “Active Foreign Private Limited Company” on a second, with paid-up capital of ₹13,30,400 and a head-count of 152 on one mirror.
The store at india.ray-ban.com titles itself “Ray-Ban® Official Store India: Genuine Since 1937”. Its own terms pages name four separate companies, and no single page carries all four.
| Page | Company named, as the page prints it |

A second shopfront carries the name. Sunglass Hut India is operated by Reliance Brands Eyewear Private Limited, CIN U45400MH2007PTC403446, incorporated 20 April 2007. The franchise rights were acquired from DLF Brands on 28 March 2022, around 85 stores; a LensCrafters licensed partnership followed on 11 March 2024. Reliance’s apparel chain has an audit of its own.
Ray-Ban on the shelf
The brand facet on a large Indian fashion marketplace printed 1,669 listings on 26 September 2026. Forty read in listing order gave 38 sunglasses and 2 frames, median MRP ₹9,590 and median selling price ₹7,079.50, 73.8% of MRP, with 32 of the 40 reduced. One read ₹12,690 against ₹11,421; another ₹11,490 unreduced.
The declaration fields of 20 records were read. The seller of record was Vision Star on 15, PLAVA VENTURES on 3 and MODA OPTICS PRIVATE LIMITED on 2. The manufacturer line printed “Imported by: LUXOTTICA INDIA EYEWEAR PRIVATE LIMITED, Tower B…” on five, “Ray-Ban Sun Optics India Pvt. Ltd, SP 810-811, Ph-II, RIICO Ind[ustrial Area]” on three or more, and “LUXOTTICA TRISTAR (DONG GUAN)” on two, as the fields printed them. The second is a Rajasthan address. Country of origin read India on 12, China on 5 and “China,India” on 3.
A declaration block records who has signed as answerable for the goods under Indian packaging rules and whom the marketplace names on the order; it is not a gate pass from a shed. Both origin fields are dated declarations, reported here as printed.
Where Ray-Ban is made
The brand’s own store and the marketplace records each print an origin field.
| Where read | Country of origin field | Manufacturer or importer line |
|---|---|---|
| india.ray-ban.com, three product pages | “Italy” on all three | “Imported and Marketed By: LUXOTTICA INDIA EYEWEAR PVT LTD, 7th Floor, Building No. 9-B, DLF Cyber City, Gurugram -122002, Haryana” |
| A large Indian fashion marketplace, 20 records | India 12, China 5, “China,India” 3 | “Imported by: LUXOTTICA INDIA EYEWEAR PRIVATE LIMITED, Tower B…” on 5; “Ray-Ban Sun Optics India Pvt. Ltd, SP 810-811, Ph-II, RIICO Ind[ustrial Area]” on 3 or more; “LUXOTTICA TRISTAR (DONG GUAN)” on 2 |
Both read 26 September 2026. Names appear as the fields printed them, truncations included.
A manufacturer line names the entity answerable for the goods, not the shed they came out of, so a Rajasthan address means an Indian company has been declared answerable. The declarations do not show which plant made any individual pair. The owner’s 2025 registration document gives “47 lens (33) and frame (14) mass production facilities” in eight countries, with no share for any.
The older Ray-Ban company in Rajasthan
RAYBAN SUN OPTICS INDIA PRIVATE LIMITED, CIN U33201HR1990PTC095964, reads “Active”, dates from 28 May 1990 and carries paid-up capital of ₹22,83,72,710. Its code is NIC 3320 “Manufacture of optical instruments and photographic equipment”; its office is the importer’s DLF Cyber City floor. Its former name ends in LIMITED, and its former CINs, U33201RJ1990PLC008343 and U33201RJ1990PTC008343, begin RJ where the current one begins HR.
Three strings are in play and none is a spelling variant: the companies register carries RAYBAN SUN OPTICS INDIA, unhyphenated; the mark and the swing tag carry RAY-BAN; the marketplace field prints “Ray-Ban Sun Optics India Pvt. Ltd”. Name collisions on a shelf are their own hazard, as the audit of the Indian cosmetics line called Elle 18 shows.
Returns, warranty and who answers
Owning the brand does not decide whose name is on the promise. One website, three products, three warranty regimes.
| Product | Length, as printed | Who honours it |
|---|---|---|
| Sunglasses, india.ray-ban.com | “two years from the date of purchase” | Ray-Ban® (Luxottica India Eyewear Pvt. Ltd.) — the Indian importer |
| Ray-Ban Meta glasses, india.ray-ban.com | “one (1) year from the date of purchase of the Product”; the same document extends the term to two years for EU and EFTA purchases | Luxottica Group S.p.A., by a form at www.ray-ban.com and return to Luxottica or an authorised dealer. The Meta FAQ on the same site instead names “LUXOTTICA INDIA EYEWEAR PVT Ltd, 7th Floor, DLF Building 9-B, DLF Cyber City, Phase – III, Gurugram” |
| Anything bought at Sunglass Hut India | “valid for a period of up to 2 Years” | Reliance Brands Eyewear Private Limited; “User should deliver the Damaged Product at physical store of Sunglass Hut” |
india.ray-ban.com warranty page, Meta warranty page and Meta FAQ, and the sunglasshut.in warranty policy; all read 26 September 2026.
A Ray-Ban Meta costing ₹39,900.00 to ₹50,100.00 here carries one year; the same document gives a European buyer two. Sunglasses exclude “scratches on sun lenses; damages caused by accident, abuse, neglect, shock, improper use or storage”, invoice required; the Meta warranty “is limited and not applicable to any lens scratches”.
Returns run “3 days after receipt of your glasses”, and “Products with removed tags are not eligible for return under any circumstances.” The money is repaid by Moda Optics within “7-10 days”, not by EssilorLuxottica. Ray-Ban Meta glasses are “not eligible for return in India due to regional policies and product-specific terms.”
On grievance redress the two channels part. No grievance officer, no nodal officer and no seller’s postal address is published on the brand’s own store; sunglasshut.in publishes both roles.
Three companies split one job: Moda Optics takes the order and pays the refund, Luxottica India Eyewear honours the sunglass warranty, and Luxottica Group S.p.A. is named on the Meta warranty. Keep the invoice and the tags.
What Ray-Ban costs in India
The comparison runs down to model code, lens and frame size, because the owner runs its own home-market retail. No conversion is applied and no gap is computed.
| Model, colour, lens | United States | India | Match |
|---|---|---|---|
| RB2140 Original Wayfarer Classic, black, G-15 green, non-polarised, 50-22 | $191, frame only, UPC 805289126577 | ₹12,790.00, style 0RB2140 901 50, “2 Year Warranty”, origin Italy | Exact on model, colour, lens, polarisation and size |
| RB2140 Original Wayfarer Classic, black, green polarised, 50-22 | $244, UPC 805289126591 | ₹14,990.00, style 0RB2140 901/58 50, “Green Polarized Glass”, origin Italy | Exact |
| RB3025 Aviator Classic, G-15 green, non-polarised, 58-14 | $191, frame only, UPC 805289602057, frame Arista Gold | ₹12,790.00, style 0RB3025 W0879 58, gunmetal frame, origin Italy | Same model, lens, polarisation and size; the frame colour differs — Arista Gold in the United States, gunmetal in India |
United States prices from LensCrafters and Glasses.com, both owned by EssilorLuxottica; Indian prices from india.ray-ban.com. All read 26 September 2026, MRP and selling price identical on all three.
One line has no home-market comparator. Ray-Ban Meta glasses on the Indian store run from ₹39,900.00 to ₹50,100.00; the launch announcement of 12 May 2025 gave a “Starting Price: INR 29,900” for a launch on 19 May 2025.
The brand’s own store is a different shape from the marketplace shelf: “Items 1-18 of 764” on sunglasses, “Items 1-18 of 274” on eyeglasses, 40 Meta products, and three product types spanning ₹4,590 to ₹50,100. Tally by category before any median, unlike the many-category own-label ranges in the audit of Trent’s in-house label family. On the three store pages read, MRP and selling price were identical.
The lens pages publish one number: “BLOCKS 100% OF UVA & UVB RAYS”. Polarized “MINIMIZES GLARE” and “SHARPENS CONTRAST”; Chromance offers “Experience enhanced vision with Chromance sunglasses”. The page also carries the line “BIO-BASED* FRAMES AND LENSES”; the footnote text was not on the page read.
Checking a Ray-Ban is genuine
The Indian store publishes no authorised-retailer list and no authentication guidance. The Meta launch announcement pointed buyers to “leading optical and sunglass stores across the country” without naming them. The brand publishes no visual tells, so none are printed here; the checks below use documents a buyer can read.
Read the importer line
india.ray-ban.com printed “Imported and Marketed By: LUXOTTICA INDIA EYEWEAR PVT LTD” with a Gurugram address on every page read; the marketplace shelf printed that company, “Ray-Ban Sun Optics India Pvt. Ltd” or “LUXOTTICA TRISTAR (DONG GUAN)”. Any other name is a question for the seller.
Match the origin to the declaration
Read the country-of-origin field on the listing you buy from and check it against the pack with the tags on, because removed tags end the right to return.
Compare the price with india.ray-ban.com
The RB2140 and RB3025 classics were ₹12,790.00 on the brand’s own store on 26 September 2026, and the marketplace median was 73.8% of MRP. A price far below both is a reason to ask the seller more questions.
Check the seller against a company document
Ray-Ban publishes no authorised-seller list for India. The one channel a reader can verify from a company document is Sunglass Hut India, whose terms name their operator, address and jurisdiction. On a marketplace, read the seller of record on the order page.
The record in India
In CS (COMM.) 60/2023 before Commercial Court-02 at Patiala House Courts, New Delhi, judgment of 17 May 2024, Luxottica Group S.p.A. was the plaintiff and the subject was eyewear sold under RADIAN, RAYDOAN, RAYBON and RED-BAN. It was decided for the plaintiff: a permanent injunction “from manufacturing, marketing, using, selling…the impugned trade mark/label”, delivery up and ₹2,00,000 in exemplary damages, on that matter as it then stood.
Read it for what it covers and nothing wider: four look-alike marks and the parties before that court. Nobody has ruled on the origin fields described here, on any company’s warranty terms, or on which shops in India are authorised, and nothing on this page is a finding against any company.
Who Ray-Ban is actually for
Ray-Ban suits a buyer who wants an owned rather than licensed brand and a named importer on the product page. At ₹12,790 for the RB2140 and RB3025 classics on india.ray-ban.com, it comes with a two-year sunglass warranty from Luxottica India Eyewear Private Limited, a three-day return window run by Moda Optics Private Limited, and no published list of who may sell it.
Common questions
Who owns Ray-Ban?
EssilorLuxottica owns it outright. Luxottica bought the Bausch & Lomb sunglasses business, Ray-Ban included, on 28 April 1999 for US$640 million, and Essilor and Luxottica combined on 1 October 2018. The owner’s 2024 registration document groups Ray-Ban with the brands it acquired, not the names it licenses in, and the Indian mark, No. 711144, is recorded to “Luxottica Group S.P.A” with status “Registered”.
Who sells Ray-Ban in India?
Goods come in through Luxottica India Eyewear Private Limited, CIN U32507HR2007FTC037390, incorporated 15 November 2007, whose register sub-category is “Subsidiary of company incorporated outside India”. The brand’s own Indian store describes Moda Optics Private Limited, CIN U46494KA2023PTC182900, a Bengaluru company, as “an authorized online retailer”, and its Terms of Use name GreenHonchos as operating the website. Sunglass Hut India is operated by Reliance Brands Eyewear Private Limited. The order, the warranty and the website each name a different company.
Are Ray-Ban sunglasses sold in India made in Italy?
Every product page on the brand’s own Indian store read on 26 September 2026 gives Country of Origin: Italy. Across 20 listings on a large Indian fashion marketplace the same day, the origin field read India on 12, China on 5 and “China,India” on 3. A declaration names the party answerable for the goods; check the field on the pair you buy.
How long is the warranty, and who do I take a broken pair to?
Sunglasses bought on the brand’s own Indian store carry “two years from the date of purchase”, honoured by Ray-Ban® (Luxottica India Eyewear Pvt. Ltd.), with a copy of the invoice required. Ray-Ban Meta glasses bought there carry “one (1) year from the date of purchase of the Product” from Luxottica Group S.p.A., claimed through a form on the global site, while the same document gives a buyer in the EU or EFTA two years. Anything bought at Sunglass Hut India is “valid for a period of up to 2 Years” and the claim is made in person at a store.
Can I return a pair I do not like, and who refunds the money?
On the brand’s own Indian store the window is three days from delivery, and “Products with removed tags are not eligible for return under any circumstances.” Shipping and returns are free, and an order can be cancelled only before it is invoiced. The refund is paid by Moda Optics, the Bengaluru retailer, and “Refunds normally arrive within 7-10 days from the day of receiving the product”. Ray-Ban Meta glasses “are not eligible for return in India due to regional policies and product-specific terms.” No grievance officer and no nodal officer is published on that website, and no postal address for the seller appears on its Contact page.

The ownership question, which usually eats half a page on a foreign name, takes one line: Luxottica bought this brand in 1999 and the combined group has held it since. The prices behave too — ₹12,790 against $191 on the same Wayfarer, and a marketplace median at 73.8% of MRP on the day.
The buying terms are worth reading before you pay. Different companies take the order, honour the warranty and run the website, the return window on the brand’s own store is three days, and Ray-Ban Meta glasses are not returnable in India under its terms. For a buyer who wants the classic Wayfarer or Aviator with a two-year importer warranty, it is fair value at full price and better value on a marketplace markdown from a named seller.
Buy it where the page names the company that answers, and open the box the day it arrives: on the brand’s own store you have three days.
