Sephora Collection Brand Audit: LVMH Label, Sold by Reliance

Sephora Collection is LVMH-owned Sephora's own makeup label, sold in India by Reliance. Who imports it, where it is made, and Indian prices against the US.
Sephora Collection brand audit by FashionAudit: Sephora Collection logo and the headline “LVMH Label, Sold by Reliance” over a vanity table with a mirror

Sephora Collection is the house label of the shop it is sold in. That is not a criticism — every big retailer does it, and this site has already audited two Indian examples. What makes it worth reading is how much its Indian product pages declare.

Ten Sephora India product pages were read in full on 3 September 2026. Every one of them carries the fullest statutory declaration block any Indian beauty retailer publishes. None of the ten has a manufacturer field.

The short answer

Ten of ten Sephora Collection pages name an importer. Ten of ten name a marketer. None of the ten pages has a manufacturer field; Indian labelling rules put the maker’s name on the carton. Country of origin splits United States 5, France 3, Luxembourg 2. Indian MRPs run ₹1,400 to ₹4,700, which is −18% to +13% against the same products in the United States.

How it started

Sephora joined LVMH in 1997, and its placement inside the group is often misunderstood. Sephora is not in LVMH’s beauty division. It sits in Selective Retailing alongside Le Bon Marché and DFS, while Perfumes & Cosmetics is a separate division holding Dior, Guerlain, Givenchy, Benefit and Fenty. The divisional numbers explain why that distinction matters.

LVMH division, FY2025RevenueRecurring operating profit
Selective Retailing — Sephora, Le Bon Marché, DFS€18,348 million€1,780 million
Perfumes & Cosmetics — Dior, Guerlain, Givenchy and others€8,174 million€727 million

LVMH, Key Figures, accessed 3 September 2026.

LVMH’s shops make it more than twice the operating profit its beauty brands do, on more than twice the revenue. In the half year to June 2026, published on 27 July 2026, Selective Retailing turned over €8,406 million — down 2% as reported but up 5% organic, with LVMH attributing the reported fall to currency and to disposals at DFS rather than to Sephora, and describing “sustained organic growth” at the chain. The company selling you the lipstick is a retailer first.

India is where the corporate map gets crowded, and the name printed on your Sephora Collection lipstick looks newer than it is. Reliance Luxe Beauty Limited is the former Arvind Beauty Brands Retail Limited — the company that ran Sephora India for Arvind Fashions, incorporated on 24 April 2015 and bought by Reliance Beauty & Personal Care Limited for ₹99.02 crore under a share purchase agreement announced on 3 November 2023, at an enterprise value of ₹216 crore including loan repayment. Twenty-six stores across thirteen cities changed hands. It is a renamed company, not a new one.

  3. Reliance Luxe Beauty Limited, AhmedabadFormerly Arvind Beauty Brands Retail; marketer on 10 of 10, importer on 5
  4. Reliance Beauty & Personal Care LimitedThe Reliance subsidiary that bought the operating company on 3 November 2023

Two details are worth holding on to. The Delhi importer is not a Reliance company — it was incorporated in 2007, sixteen years before Reliance arrived, and is registered under the cosmetics and toilet-preparations code. And the Naroda Road address in Ahmedabad printed as marketer is the registered address the register shows for the former Arvind company.

What they actually make

Ten product pages, read in full on 3 September 2026, each rendering the complete additional-information block. Sephora India is the only Indian beauty retailer whose product pages publish it consistently, so this is the best-lit shelf in the market.

Ten Sephora Collection product pages on sephora.in, read 3 September 2026.

All ten pages read name an importer and a marketer; the manufacturer’s name is left to the carton.

Set that beside the two Indian house labels this site has already audited. Nykaa Cosmetics showed neither a maker nor a country of origin on the four pages read. Kay Beauty, unusually, does name its manufacturers — Intercos and Maxima in Uttarakhand, Schwan Cosmetics in Germany. Sephora Collection is the largest sample: the fullest disclosure block in Indian beauty retail, without a manufacturer field. Indian labelling law requires the maker’s name on the carton, so it is printed on the box rather than the page. That is the opposite of our Campus audit, where the brand owns its plants and says so.

The origins are the second surprise. Sephora Collection reads as French because the retailer is French, but five of the ten listings declare the United States, three France and two Luxembourg. The range comes from several countries under a French retailer’s name.

One page also names a country of manufacture in its description. The Best Skin Ever Matte Powder Foundation’s copy says it “is made in Italy”, while the page’s country-of-origin field reads “France”. Country of origin and country of manufacture can legally differ, and the page does not explain the two entries; the carton is the place to check.

What Sephora Collection costs in India

Three products can be matched to their American listings, allowing for the market-specific names Sephora uses. All prices read on 3 September 2026, converted at USD/INR 94.4044.

ProductIndian MRPUS price

Indian prices from sephora.in, US prices from sephora.com, both 3 September 2026. Names differ market to market, so these are near-matches rather than SKU-for-SKU pairs.

17.6% cheaper in India
Checked on
3 September 2026

Across the three pairs the spread runs from 17.6% cheaper in India to 12.6% dearer, which puts this label inside the same band as the third-party prestige brands on the same shelf — Bobbi Brown at −28% to +12%, Clinique at −24% to +1%, NARS at −8% to −12%. The retailer does not price its own label conspicuously better or worse than the brands it imports.

Per gram is where the picture sharpens. The No Transfer lipstick is 2 ml at ₹1,400, or ₹700 per millilitre. The 3.5 g matte lipstick is ₹400 a gram at MRP and ₹280 at its ₹980 selling price. The Colorful Face Palette is ₹280 a gram. A Sephora Collection lipstick costs roughly five times an essence lipstick and about four times a Blue Heaven product, so it sits above the budget end of the shelf.

Worth knowing

Four of the ten listings publish no weight or volume at all, showing only “Net Quantity: 1 N”, and one gives two different figures. On those, price per gram cannot be worked out — take the number off the carton before you compare.

Treat the printed MRP as a reference number rather than a price anyone pays; discounts ran to 30% on the day. That is the conclusion our Sparx and Liberty audits reached about footwear stickers, and it holds on this shelf too.

Who Sephora Collection is actually for

It is for the shopper standing in a Sephora store who wants the room’s aesthetic at a third of the room’s price. On sephora.in a Sephora Collection product and a Dior product appear in the same grid, under the same badge language, with the same customer-care number. One is a brand the shop buys in; the other is the shop’s own label, which is how private label works everywhere.

What it is not is the cheap option in India. At ₹1,400 to ₹4,700 MRP this is a mid-range to premium line by the standards of the Indian makeup shelf, and it is cheap only relative to the Dior and Charlotte Tilbury products next to it. A shopper hunting value rather than atmosphere will do better elsewhere, and the per-gram figures above say why.

Reputation and controversies

The product names carry performance claims. The eyeliner is named “New 12H Colorful Retractable Eyeliner” and the lip stain “Cream Lip Stain 10HR”. A lipstick is called “No Transfer”. None of the ten Indian pages read cites a test method, panel size or laboratory for these claims. The foundation’s description calls it vegan and non-comedogenic, and the page names no certifier or test for either.

The “SEPHORA EXCLUSIVE” badge on the tiles is accurate as far as it goes. The label is sold only by Sephora.

On animal testing, the brand makes no claim on any page read. PETA’s Beauty Without Bunnies directory, accessed 3 September 2026, does not list Sephora Cosmetics as cruelty-free; it has no separate entry for the Sephora Collection label. Animal testing of cosmetics has been illegal in India since 21 May 2014, so this is a statement about the company’s practice elsewhere rather than about goods sold here.

The channel, unusually for an imported brand, is clean. Sephora Collection is sold in India by one retailer, through a named importer and a named marketer, on pages that publish the statutory block. There is no marketplace ambiguity and no third-party seller to read past. A product complaint goes to the importer or marketer named on the pack, and the carton names the manufacturer.

Buying it in India

Check 01

Read the carton for the maker

Indian labelling law requires the manufacturer’s name and address on every cosmetic pack. The Sephora Collection pages read do not carry a manufacturer field, so turn the box over in the store.

Check 02

Check which company imported it

Half the listings read name Sephora Cosmetics Pvt Ltd of New Delhi, half name Reliance Luxe Beauty Ltd of Ahmedabad. Both are legitimate importers of record; the one on your box is the one answerable for it.

Check 03

Look at the country of origin, not the brand name

Five of ten declared the United States, three France and two Luxembourg. If origin matters to you, check the country on the pack.

Check 04

Divide by the grams before you compare

A 2 ml lipstick at ₹1,400 is ₹700 a millilitre. A 10 g face palette at ₹2,800 is ₹280 a gram. The sticker price hides which one is the better buy.

Check 05

Compare the American price

Sephora publishes US prices openly. On the three products matched here, India ran from 17.6% cheaper to 12.6% dearer. If an Indian price is far outside that, ask why.

On the wider question of which company actually answers for a famous name in India, our Bata audit makes the point from the other direction: the brand on the box and the Indian company behind it are frequently different things. Here there are three of them, and the one you would write to is on the label.

Common questions

Who makes Sephora Collection products?

Ten Sephora India product pages read in full on 3 September 2026 carry no manufacturer field; all ten name an importer and a marketer. Indian labelling law requires the maker’s name on the carton, so the answer is on the box rather than the listing.

Is Sephora Collection French?

The retailer and its parent are French. The products are not uniformly so — of ten listings read, five declared the United States as country of origin, three France and two Luxembourg.

Does Reliance own Sephora?

No. Reliance operates Sephora in India and bought the Indian operating company, Arvind Beauty Brands Retail, for ₹99.02 crore in a deal announced on 3 November 2023, renaming it Reliance Luxe Beauty Limited. Sephora itself remains an LVMH Maison.

Is Sephora part of LVMH’s beauty division?

No. Sephora sits in LVMH’s Selective Retailing division, which turned over €18,348 million in FY2025 against €8,174 million for Perfumes & Cosmetics. Dior, Guerlain and Givenchy are in the other division.

Is Sephora Collection cruelty-free?

The brand makes no such claim on any page read, and PETA’s directory, accessed 3 September 2026, does not list Sephora Cosmetics as cruelty-free. Animal testing of cosmetics has been illegal in India since 21 May 2014.

Is Sephora Collection cheaper in India than in America?

On the three products matched on 3 September 2026, India ran from 17.6% cheaper to 12.6% dearer at MRP. That is the same band the imported prestige brands on the next shelf occupy.

The FA take

Sephora Collection is fairly priced and honestly channelled. It runs from 17.6% cheaper to 12.6% dearer than the same products in America, which is better discipline than most imported makeup manages, and it is sold through one retailer with a named importer and a named marketer on every listing. On a shelf where marketplace stock and cross-border parcels are the norm, that is worth something.

The value case is weaker at the per-gram level: at ₹280 to ₹700 per gram or millilitre it is a mid-range to premium line, not a budget one. The pages leave some detail to the carton, including the manufacturer, and on four of ten the weight; the “12H”, “10HR” and “No Transfer” claims are printed without a cited test method.

Buy it for the Sephora look at a fair price against the US, check the carton for maker and weight, and compare per gram before choosing it over a cheaper Indian lipstick.
