The MRP is not a real price: the median discount was 65%. How it started
Amazon India launched Symbol in September 2016, just before the festive sales, as its first private fashion label. At launch it had more than 200 items, including shirts, T-shirts, trousers, socks and innerwear, sold through Cloudtail India, then Amazon’s largest seller.
Cloudtail’s ownership has moved since. Its parent, Prione Business Services, was a joint venture between Amazon and Catamaran Ventures, the investment firm of Infosys co-founder N R Narayana Murthy. In March 2022, the Competition Commission of India approved Amazon’s purchase of Catamaran’s stake.

What they actually make
Symbol is built around plain, everyday men’s clothes. Shirts lead our list, with T-shirts, track pants and trousers behind them. Symbol Premium adds pricier trousers and some footwear, including sneakers, sandals and formal shoes.
On 30 October 2026, two Symbol shirts on Amazon listed India as the country of origin and named Cloudtail India Private Limited, Mohan Cooperative Industrial Area, Mathura Road, as manufacturer and packer. Both described themselves as 100% cotton. That name is the company on the label; the listings do not say which factory sewed the shirt.

We looked at all 42 Symbol and Symbol Premium products listed on FashionAudit on 30 October 2026. For Symbol itself, the median MRP was ₹1,699 and the median selling price was ₹599.

Who Symbol is actually for
Symbol suits a man who wants plain cotton shirts, T-shirts or track pants for everyday wear at about ₹500 to ₹800, and who already shops on Amazon. It is a sensible way to buy basics in bulk.
It is not for anyone who wants a brand with a style of its own, or the option to try before buying. There are no Symbol stores. Symbol Premium’s trousers at about ₹1,500 also face stronger rivals with real showrooms.

Reputation and controversies
Symbol has no public accounts of its own, since it sits inside Amazon’s Indian businesses. The main thing a buyer should keep in mind is simple: Amazon owns the brand and also runs the shop, so it decides where Symbol appears next to rival brands.
When Symbol shows up first on a search page, it is worth scrolling further before you decide. Sort by price, and look at customer photos of the fabric.
