Titan Raga Brand Audit: A Marketing Line, Not a Brand

Titan has called Raga a range, a collection and a sub brand across thirty-four years, and has never disclosed a single Raga figure. What you actually get for ₹6,795 and for ₹52,795.

Titan Raga has been on sale in India since June 1992. In the thirty-four years since, Titan’s own annual reports have called it a range, a collection and a sub brand, and have never once told shareholders how big it is. Titan’s Q1 FY27 earnings deck gives growth numbers for the Titan brand, Fastrack, Helios and smartwatches. Raga appears in it as a photograph.

The short answer

Raga is a styling and advertising line inside the Titan brand rather than a separate watch business. Every Raga is quartz, none carries a published calibre, and the ₹6,795 Showstopper and the ₹52,795 Cocktails share the same movement description, the same mineral glass and the same 24-month warranty. Raga is about 29% cheaper in India than in the UAE. Prices checked 30 August 2026.

How it started

The launch date is settled by Titan’s own paperwork. The 1991-92 annual report says “Raga, a new range launched in June 1992, has proved to be a great success”, and describes ladies watches with classical Indian designs. The repeated date, unusually, holds.

The same report contradicts two things widely repeated about that launch. Raga was not Titan’s first watch for women — the report lists women’s bracelet watches and an 18K gold jewellery-watch range separately from Raga. And it did not run continuously: the 1998-99 report calls “the relaunch of Fastrack and Raga” a highlight of the year.

What Titan calls Raga, in its own annual reports
  1. A new range1991-92 — “a new range launched in June 1992”
  2. A collection1999-2000 — listed beside Regalia and Classique
  3. A sub brand2012-13 — “the woman’s sub brand of Titan”
  4. A name on the brand list2025-26 — printed on page 63, with no figures

In the 2015-16 report Raga is not mentioned at all. It sits inside Titan Company Limited, the Tata group watch and jewellery business; our Titan brand audit covers the parent, the Hosur factory and the corporate numbers.

What they actually make

Raga sits inside the Watches segment, alongside Titan, Sonata, Fastrack, Xylys, Nebula and Helios. No revenue, volume or sales figure is disclosed for it anywhere in the 2025-26 annual report. The quarterly deck settles the point. Titan’s Q1 FY27 presentation broke ₹1,543 crore of Watches and Wearables revenue down by brand — Titan in robust double-digit growth, Fastrack in healthy double digits, Helios broadly in line, smartwatches down single digit. There is no Raga line.

Titan does treat Raga as strategy internally: its 2024 investor meet listed premiumisation, Raga and mass fashion as the building blocks of mainline analog. Even there, Raga carried no number.

Inside the catalogue the sub-line names churn. Nine filters are live — Showstopper, Viva, Power Pearls, Glimmers, Moments of Joy, Memoirs, Spotlight, Delight and Ceramics — while product names add seven more with no page of their own. Names appear, get advertised, then stop being navigable while the watches carrying them stay on sale.

None of it means anything mechanically. Every Raga is quartz; there is no mechanical Raga. Titan states no calibre for any of them, and none for its automatics either, where the collection page lists a Skeletal Automatic at ₹15,820 and an Aion at ₹38,195 with nothing beyond the word “automatic”. That is Titan’s house policy, and Raga is not the exception to it.

An eightfold price increase inside Raga buys no mechanical change at all. What it buys is the dial, the bracelet, the case finish and the campaign. The one real step-up is the newest line, “Paris, with Love” at ₹55,495, with sapphire glass and 316L steel — better specified than the dearer-looking ₹52,795 Cocktails.

Worth knowing

Titan states no water-resistance rating for the Raga Cocktails or the Paris pieces. At ₹52,795 and ₹55,495, read an unstated rating as “not a watch to swim in”, and ask the shop to show you what the case back says.

What Titan Raga costs in India

The working band is ₹3,395 to ₹55,495, checked on titan.co.in on 30 August 2026 — from a Raga Viva at ₹3,995 MRP selling for ₹3,395 to the Paris “River’s Whisper” at ₹55,495.

The more useful fact is that MRP is a reference number, not a price. On 30 August 2026, 146 of the 321 Raga watches on Titan’s own site — 45% of the catalogue — were discounted. A ₹11,095 Raga Chic was selling at ₹6,655, a 40% cut, and even the Cocktails were moving, ₹49,295 down to ₹39,435. Titan’s own permanent page title for the collection reads “Sale Up to 60%”. Only the newest Paris pieces held full price.

Now the comparison every Indian buyer assumes runs the other way. Titan sells Raga in the UAE through its own shop, and four references appear on both sites under identical reference numbers.

AED 495, about ₹12,877
Indian MRP, same reference
₹8,895
Gap
30.9% cheaper in India

Across all four references India runs 28.4% to 30.9% below UAE MRP, about 37% below once 18% GST and 5% VAT are stripped out, and up to 43% below on the price actually charged. That spread is tight — the signature of a deliberate pricing policy, not shop-to-shop noise.

The mechanism is the mirror image of the Swiss brands’ problem. A Raga is made in India and sold in India, so it crosses no customs border at all, while the Dubai stock has been exported, marked up by a distributor and taxed again. There is no grey market worth describing here. Buying abroad costs more before any discount, and Titan’s warranty is tied to Indian law, to the original purchaser and to an authorised Indian channel.

The continuity of Raga is its advertising, not its engineering.

Who Titan Raga is actually for

Below about ₹20,000, Raga has no comparison to lose. Tissot, Seiko and Citizen do not sell a watch at ₹6,000 here, because roughly 50% duty incidence on imports keeps them out of that band. At ₹5,000 to ₹12,000 a Raga competes with Fastrack, Sonata, Fossil and Casio, and wins a fair share of those fights on design. Above ₹40,000 the comparison is brutal, and an honest audit has to make it.

Watch Indian price What is inside
Titan Raga Cocktails ₹52,795 Quartz, no calibre published, mineral glass
Tissot Classic Dream ₹50,500 Swiss automatic, Powermatic 80, calibre named
Citizen Tsuyosa ₹41,900 Japanese automatic, movement named
Seiko 5 Sports ₹35,000 In-house 4R36 automatic, calibre named

A buyer at ₹50,000 who wants watchmaking is buying the wrong thing, and our watches section covers the alternatives. A buyer who wants jewellery with a dial on it is not, and that is the honest defence of the Cocktails and Paris lines.

Quartz also carries an advantage that rarely gets printed. A Raga will never present the five-yearly overhaul bill a Powermatic 80 or a 4R36 eventually will; the meaningful cost after purchase is a battery. Our guide to everyday watches makes the same case lower down the range.

Reputation and controversies

Raga’s identity lives in its advertising, and that arc is unusually well documented.

Thirty-four years of positioning
  • June 1992Launch — ladies watches in classical Indian designs
  • 1998-99Relaunched alongside Fastrack in a segment-focus programme
  • 20 January 2017#MomByChoice, Ogilvy Bangalore, about ₹6 crore of television spend
  • 10 July 2026Alia Bhatt named brand ambassador, with “Paris, with Love”
  • 21 August 2026“Your Way Is Beautiful”, a three-part digital film series

Design idea in 1992, messaging idea by 2026 — and the specification never entered the conversation.

The mid-2010s positioning was “Khud Se Naya Rishta”, carried through #HerLifeHerChoices and #BreakTheBias; a Pride film followed in July 2020. Alia Bhatt has fronted the brand since at least May 2022, and Titan’s site now runs a 79-watch “Raga Alia Curation” named after her.

Titan’s marketing head for watches, Aparna Ravi, put the proposition plainly in July 2026: “Every collection at Titan Raga begins with an understanding of the woman we are designing for.” That is a description of a customer, not of a watch — and an accurate description of what Raga has always been.

The corporate matters people associate with the parent, including the Tanishq advertisement withdrawal of October 2020, belong to Titan Company and to other brands. They are set out with their outcomes in our Titan audit, and attributing them to Raga would be wrong.

Buying it in India

Check 01

Buy from a channel Titan names

Titan World, Helios, titan.co.in and the marketplaces Titan itself lists. The warranty applies only to authorised dealers and official channels.

Check 02

Register the unique number

Every genuine watch carries a unique identification number or QR code on the case back, and Titan runs e-warranty registration against it. A number that will not register is your answer.

Check 03

Do not treat a discount as a fake

The usual “half price means counterfeit” rule fails here. Titan discounted 45% of the Raga catalogue on its own website on 30 August 2026, at depths up to 40%.

Check 04

Keep the invoice in the buyer’s name

The warranty is valid only for the original purchaser and is not transferable. Given as a gift, the bill decides who can claim.

Common questions

Is Titan Raga a separate brand?

No. Titan’s corporate site sells it as “Raga by Titan”, and its annual reports have called it a range, a collection and a sub brand at different times. Raga has never carried a revenue or growth figure in any Titan disclosure.

Do the Raga sub-lines mean anything?

Not mechanically. Showstopper, Viva, Cocktails, Glimmers and the rest are seasonal merchandising labels. Across an eightfold price range the movement description, the warranty and often the glass are identical.

Does Titan Raga use Swiss movements?

No. Every Raga checked declares Country of Origin: India and lists its movement as “Quartz” with no calibre. Titan’s Swiss component sourcing concerns mechanical watches, and Raga has none.

Is Titan Raga cheaper in Dubai?

No. On four references sold in both countries, India was 28.4% to 30.9% below UAE MRP on 30 August 2026, and up to 43% below on the selling price.

Is a ₹50,000 Raga worth it?

As jewellery, possibly. As a watch, no — at that price a Tissot Classic Dream at ₹50,500 or a Citizen Tsuyosa at ₹41,900 gives you an automatic movement with a published calibre.

The FA take

Under ₹12,000, Raga is an easy recommendation. The designs beat Titan’s mainline, the watches are made in India with a real service network behind them, and at 15% to 40% off they are often the best-looking thing in the band. Nothing imported comes close at ₹6,000.

Above ₹40,000 it falls apart. The ₹52,795 Cocktails is quartz, with mineral glass, no published calibre and no published water resistance, sold against a ₹50,500 Tissot Classic Dream with a Powermatic 80 inside it. If the appeal is the stones and the bracelet, buy it. If any part of it is the watch, ₹52,795 is the wrong price.

Raga is a very good marketing line attached to an ordinary quartz watch — which is fine at ₹6,795 and hard to defend at ₹52,795.
