Biotique is a Jain family skincare and personal-care brand that makes its products at the group’s own plant in Paonta Sahib, Himachal Pradesh. Its range runs from ₹149 cleansers to sunscreen, and on 1 September 2026 most of it sold well below MRP.
Biotique is a founder-family business with its own plant and the lowest per-ml SPF 50 price among the national brands we priced — ₹205 for 120 ml at Nykaa on 1 September 2026, about ₹1.71 per ml. Bought on discount, the basics are good value.

How it started
The brand’s telling: Vinita Jain studied in Switzerland and founded Biotique in 1992 with Swiss collaborators. The earliest group company on the corporate register dates from 15 March 2000, so treat 1992 as the brand’s own dating.
The site’s footer credits “Bio Veda Action Research Co. (brand owners of Biotique)” — a partnership, which files no public accounts, so no brand-level turnover is on a public register. Most databases pin “Biotique” on the 2000 private company, which filed ₹4.83 crore of revenue for FY2023-24.
- Bio Veda Action Research Co.Partnership, owns the brand, files no accounts
- Bio Veda Action Research Pvt Ltd2000; ₹4.83 crore FY24 — the company databases cite
- Bio Veda Farmacy Pvt Ltd2019; ₹264.13 crore FY25; holds the plant licence
The largest filed figure is Bio Veda Farmacy’s ₹264.13 crore for FY2024-25, up 23% on the year before. In October 2025, Vinita Jain told the Economic Times the group was consolidating entities for an IPO, diluting about 10%. As at 1 September 2026, no draft prospectus had been filed with SEBI, so the listing remains a stated plan.
What they actually make
The range runs from ₹149 cleansers to hair colour, baby care, toothpaste and sunscreen. Unlike most Indian skincare labels, Biotique makes its own products: both licences on its packs are own-licences at the group’s Paonta Sahib plant, and no third-party factory is named anywhere we read. Owning the factory is rare and creditable — Campus is the footwear equivalent.
On licences: on the pages read on 1 September 2026, all nineteen product pages print a cosmetics-series number — N-COS/2021/53 for Bio Veda Farmacy on newer packs, S-COS/10/14 for the partnership on older ones. The same two entities also hold Ayurvedic manufacturing licences, HP-119-Ay and HP-315-Ay, at the same address.
Then there is what the pack tells you. As transcribed by 1mg and PharmEasy, Biotique’s ingredient declarations are short herb lists ending “Himalayan Water Q.S.”
Ingredient lists online are pharmacy transcriptions of the pack. Turn the pack over in the shop and read the printed list before buying.
The sunscreens now come with a document. Three sandalwood sunscreen pages display a certificate from Mascot Spincontrol India Pvt Ltd, a clinical research centre, dated 20 July 2026, signed by a dermatologist. It reports an in-vivo study on volunteers: lesions down 51.83%, tan down 15.23%, redness down 11.25%, brightness up 1.83% after 28 days. On the pages read on 1 September 2026, the certificate as displayed states no measured SPF, test standard or UVA reading, and the other Biotique sunscreen pages read displayed no test report.
Both licences on Biotique’s packs are own-licences at the group’s Paonta Sahib plant — owning the factory is rare.
What Biotique costs in India
Per millilitre, Biotique’s sun care is the cheapest broad-claim SPF we have priced from any national brand. MRPs are a poor guide: Nykaa ran 44–61% off the range on 1 September 2026 and the brand’s own site runs 20–50% off most sizes. On that day, most selling prices sat well below MRP.
- Sandalwood SPF 50+ lotion, 120 ml, brand-site MRP
- ₹550 — ₹4.58 per ml
- Same bottle at Nykaa, same day
- ₹205 — ₹1.71 per ml
- Gap
- 63% below the brand’s own list price
- Checked on
- 1 September 2026
The same bottle carries a ₹410 MRP at Nykaa and 1mg against ₹550 on biotique.com — different pack generations, most likely. Selected sunscreens, priced on 1 September 2026:
| Product | Per ml/g at MRP | Per ml/g at best price seen |
|---|---|---|
| Sandalwood SPF 50+ lotion, 120 ml | ₹4.58 | ₹1.71 (Nykaa) |
| Carrot SPF 40+ lotion, 150 ml | ₹3.67 | ₹2.02 (brand site) |
| Aloe Vera SPF 30+ lotion, 120 ml | ₹3.54 | ₹2.48 (brand site) |
| Morning Nectar SPF 30, 120 ml | ₹2.49 | ₹1.98 (Nykaa) |
| BXL SPF 50 cream, 50 g | ₹19.98 | ₹10.00 (brand site, 49% off) |
The 20 g stick at ₹39.95 per gram costs over twenty times the lotion per unit. The core line is otherwise plainly cheap: the Papaya face wash at ₹1.58–₹2.13 per ml and the Morning Nectar moisturiser at ₹191 for 190 ml at Nykaa undercut every mass rival we priced.
Who Biotique is actually for
Biotique is for the buyer who wants herbal-positioned basics at kirana prices. The washes, oils and moisturisers compete on price with anything on the shelf, made in the brand’s own plant. A buyer who needs a particular sun-protection test result should ask the brand for its report before buying.
Reputation and controversies
Biotique’s advertising record includes two decided rulings. In November 2015, the Advertising Standards Council of India’s complaints council held that “100% Natural”, “No Chemicals” and “No Preservatives”, advertised for a Biotique shampoo, were not substantiated. In August 2016, it held that “Clinically tested” and the “97 percent” hair-growth claims for Bio Kelp shampoo were not substantiated.
- November 2015ASCI: “100% Natural”, “No Chemicals”, “No Preservatives” not substantiated
- August 2016ASCI: “Clinically tested”, “97%” claims not substantiated
Rulings in November 2015 and August 2016.
ASCI is the advertising industry’s own self-regulatory body, not a statutory regulator, and its findings are not court orders. Each was about the specific advertisement put before the council, in the wording that advertisement then carried, and neither is a standing ban on those words. Nobody has ruled on the pages and packs as they read on 1 September 2026. Beyond advertising, we found no CDSCO order, drug-controller action or consumer-commission award against a Biotique product.
Buying it in India
Biotique sells everywhere — its own site, Nykaa, Amazon and the pharmacy apps — and the same bottle can vary by ₹200 across channels in a day. Remember that the brand on the front and the company on the register are separate facts, and the pack is where they meet. A printed MRP nobody pays is not unique to skincare; Sparx sells on the same mechanics.
Read the licence number
Find “Mfg. Lic. No.” beside the manufacturer’s address. A COS-series number is a cosmetics licence; an Ay-series number is Ayurvedic.
Turn the pack over for the full list
Read the full ingredient list on the carton in the shop before relying on any “free-from” badge.
Ask for the test report
For any sunscreen, a buyer can ask the brand for a report naming the test standard, the laboratory and the measured SPF and PA values.
Divide the price by the millilitres
₹205 for 120 ml is ₹1.71 per ml; ₹799 for a 20 g stick is ₹39.95 per gram. Per-unit price is the only honest comparison across formats.
Never pay the MRP
On 1 September 2026, most of the range sold 20–61% below list. If a Biotique product is at full MRP, it is cheaper somewhere else today.
Common questions
Is Biotique an Ayurvedic brand?
Biotique presents its range under the line “Advanced Ayurveda”, and the group holds both cosmetics and Ayurvedic manufacturing licences at its Paonta Sahib plant. The “Mfg. Lic. No.” printed beside the manufacturer’s address on each pack shows which licence that product is made under.
Who owns Biotique?
The Jain family, through a partnership firm and several private companies; members of the founding family sit on the boards, and no outside investor appears on any register. The only filed revenue of scale is Bio Veda Farmacy’s ₹264.13 crore for FY2024-25.
Is Biotique chemical-free and preservative-free?
The full ingredient list printed on each carton is the place to check what a product contains; read it in the shop before buying.
Does Biotique publish SPF test reports?
The sandalwood sunscreen pages display a certificate from Mascot Spincontrol India dated 20 July 2026, reporting an in-vivo study of tan, redness and lesions over 28 days. For an SPF and PA test report, check the pack and ask the brand before buying.

What Biotique genuinely has is a factory and a price. It makes its own products under its own licences, and at ₹1.71–₹2.48 per ml on the best lotion prices seen, its sunscreen lotions were among the lowest-priced national brands we checked on 1 September 2026. Bought at a discount, it earns its shelf space.
Buy it for the price and the own-plant making. If sun-protection testing matters to you, check the pack and ask the brand for its test report.
Pay ₹205 for the lotion if you like it — at the ₹550 list price, it is not the bargain it is on discount.
