Laneige has no Indian website. It reaches Indian shoppers through Nykaa’s prestige shelf, and the company that brings it in is called Innisfree Cosmetics India Pvt Ltd — Amorepacific’s Indian arm, carrying a sister brand’s name and, on the Laneige pack, a different Gurugram address from the one the register holds.
That matters less than the price, which is the surprise here. On the hero moisturiser India is within four rupees of the Korean list price and a fifth below America.
Laneige is a 1994 Amorepacific brand, never sold, sold in India only through third parties since November 2018. The 50 ml Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic cream is ₹2,900 at Indian MRP against ₩42,000 — ₹2,904 — in Korea on 3 September 2026, and $38, or ₹3,624, in the United States. Its two upheld advertising findings in India are both about influencer labelling, not about product claims.

How it started
Amorepacific launched Laneige in 1994, filed in the group’s own history under a line about everyone possessing “unique, sparkling beauty”. It has never changed hands. Structurally it differs from its stablemates: Amorepacific reports Innisfree and Etude under “Beauty Subsidiaries”, separate operating companies, while Laneige is a brand line inside Amorepacific Corporation itself.
India came in November 2018, exclusively on Nykaa. By July 2020 Michael Youngsoo Kim, head of Amorepacific’s Asia-Pacific regional headquarters, was describing Innisfree, Laneige and Etude as “running active on Nykaa” while adding a fourth brand to the platform. Eight years on, Laneige sits inside Nykaa Luxe, the prestige tier, with 61 products.

Eight years in India without a shopfront of its own.
The absence of an Indian site matters. Everything an Indian buyer reads about the product is written by a retailer, and everything the brand publishes about its own testing sits on pages in Korean or aimed at Americans.
What they actually make
Four lines carry the brand in India. The Lip Sleeping Mask is the famous one — Nykaa’s number two lip mask, with over 109,000 ratings on the Berry variant alone, in 8 g and 20 g. The Lip Glowy Balm carries over 169,000. Water Bank is the skincare franchise: creams, serum, emulsion, eye cream and a sunscreen. Cream Skin is the milky toner hybrid.
Who makes it is settled, which is worth stating because it is not always so. The declaration on the 60 ml Bouncy & Firm Sleeping Mask names Amorepacific Corporation, Yongsan-gu, Seoul as both manufacturer and packer. The parent makes this one itself, which is not true of everything the same importer brings in.
- Amorepacific CorporationSeoul — declared manufacturer and packer
- Innisfree Cosmetics India Pvt LtdDeclared importer, JMD Megapolis, Sector 48, Gurgaon
- RK World Infocom Pvt LtdThe seller named on the marketplace listing
- ₹2,080Against a declared MRP of ₹2,600, 3 September 2026
The pack itself explains the odd name, adding “(A FAMILY OF AMOREPACIFIC)” after the importer — a line that exists because the name would otherwise confuse anyone reading the back of the box.
What Laneige costs in India
Korea is the comparison that counts, not America. Converted at the Federal Reserve’s H.10 rates for 28 August 2026 — ₹95.38 and ₩1,379.41 to the dollar, so ₩1,000 = ₹69.15 — the Korean list prices come out almost on top of the Indian ones. Korean figures are from Amoremall, Amorepacific’s own Korean store, so list is compared with list.
- Korea, list price
- ₩42,000 for 50 ml = ₹2,904
- India, MRP
- ₹2,900 for 50 ml
- Gap
- ₹4 cheaper in India
- Checked on
- 3 September 2026
Four rupees apart, on a jar that has crossed a border, cleared duty and paid an importer’s margin. The same 50 ml is $38 in America, ₹3,624, so India is 20% below the American price. The Lip Sleeping Mask lands the same way: Indian MRPs straddle the Korean list price per gram and run 24% to 38% under the American one.
Two cautions, because leaving either out would mislead. Korean list is not what Koreans pay — on the same day Amoremall was selling the lip mask at ₩15,840, 28% off, and the Water Bank cream at ₩29,400, 30% off, so against real Korean shelf prices India is dearer. And the Cream Skin sizes do not match, 170 ml in Korea against 50 ml here, so that pair proves nothing about mark-up.
| Product | Size and MRP | Per unit at MRP |
|---|---|---|
| Lip Sleeping Mask, mini | 8 g, ₹600 | ₹75.00/g |
| Lip Sleeping Mask, Vanilla | 20 g, ₹1,420 | ₹71.00/g |
| Lip Sleeping Mask, Strawberry Shortcake | 20 g, ₹1,750 | ₹87.50/g |
| Cream Skin Cerapeptide Refiner | 50 ml, ₹900 | ₹18.00/ml |
| Bouncy & Firm Sleeping Mask | 60 ml, ₹2,600 | ₹43.33/ml |
| Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic Cream | 50 ml, ₹2,900 | ₹58.00/ml |
Nykaa Luxe, MRPs checked 3 September 2026.
Two figures deserve a second look. The 8 g mini is ₹75 per gram against ₹71 for the 20 g Vanilla — a four-rupee penalty for the small size, unusually mild by the standards of this category. And two 20 g lip masks differing only by scent carry MRPs of ₹1,420 and ₹1,750: same brand, same size, same shelf, same day, 23% apart, with nothing published to explain it.
Discounting is consistent across channels. The 60 ml sleeping mask showed MRP ₹2,600 and ₹2,080 selling on both Amazon and Nykaa the same day — the same 20% off in two places, which is what one controlled importer setting terms looks like. That is the opposite of the spread documented on Metro, where printed and paid prices part company by retailer.
Who Laneige is actually for
On its skincare this is premium territory in India — ₹900 to ₹2,320 at Nykaa’s selling prices, the Water Bank cream at ₹2,320 and the Bouncy & Firm mask at ₹2,080. It suits a buyer who wants a well-documented hydration product and will pay near the Korean list price for it.
The lip products are the exception and the entry point. ₹540 for the 8 g mini and ₹1,207 for a 20 g Vanilla put the brand’s most famous item within reach of a buyer who would never spend ₹2,320 on a moisturiser. If Laneige is a gift or a first purchase, that is where it starts.
Reputation and controversies
The advertising record, stated precisely. India’s advertising council has upheld two matters against Laneige India, on 7 November 2022 and 16 June 2023. The 2023 matter concerned Instagram posts by influencers promoting the brand, decided under the Guidelines for Influencer Advertising in Digital Media and cited alongside the guidelines for virtual digital assets, which the published entry does not explain. The 2022 matter engaged Chapter I of the code alongside the same influencer guidelines.
Both are disclosure matters, and neither is a finding about a product claim. An influencer-disclosure breach means a paid post did not carry the required “Ad” or “paid partnership” label. It is a real breach and worth reporting. It is not a ruling about whether a number on a bottle is accurate, and the two are constantly confused. For a brand whose entire proposition is quantified hydration figures, an empty product-claim column is a genuine result. India’s advertising council is the industry’s own self-regulatory body rather than a statutory regulator; each decision went to the posts as they then stood, and nobody has ruled on what Laneige publishes today.
Both findings against Laneige in India are about a missing “Ad” label, not about whether a single number on the bottle is true.
What the numbers rest on. Laneige publishes more method than almost anyone in its category — and publishes it where an Indian buyer will not see it.
| Claim | Where it is published | What is published behind it |
|---|---|---|
| 94% less flaky lips | Korean and US sites | Instrumental result, 33 subjects, two weeks |
| Up to 100-hour hydration | US site, Water Bank cream | Instrumental result, 32 women, after one use |
| 100% agreed the barrier felt repaired | US site, Water Bank cream | Self-assessment, 32 women, four weeks |
| 79% skin elastic recovery | Korean site, Water Bank | Named research centre, 32 women, tested 21 August to 26 September 2023 |
| #1 lip treatment brand in the US, four years running | US site | Circana, US prestige beauty, January 2022 to December 2025 |
Read that table for what it says and what it does not. The instrumental figures are worth crediting: they name the measurement, the panel and the duration. The agreement figures are 32 people reporting how something felt, which the brand labels as such. And the Korean page carries “94.59%” and “47.64%” on panels of about thirty, where a second decimal place adds no certainty a panel that size can carry.
None of it reaches the Indian shopper directly. Neither Laneige product page checked on Nykaa on 3 September 2026 showed a claim, a footnote or a panel size. What the retailer shows instead is “100% Authentic, directly purchased from LANEIGE” — an assurance about supply, not about efficacy.
Laneige’s panel sizes and testing institutes appear on its Korean and American pages, not on the Indian listings checked. If a number is why you are buying, read it on the brand’s own site first and treat the retailer’s page as a shop window.
Cruelty-free. Amorepacific banned animal testing internally from 2008 and extended the commitment to partners in 2013. PETA’s directory nevertheless says “Laneige may not be cruelty-free”, giving an administrative reason: the company has not signed PETA’s statement of assurance. That is not a finding that Laneige tests on animals, and this audit does not turn it into one. It is the same parent whose Innisfree brand is listed in that directory — proof that certification is applied for per brand, not inherited from a group policy. Importing cosmetics tested on animals is prohibited in India in any case, under GSR 718(E).
Buying it in India
Every cosmetic imported into India must be registered before it lands — Rule 12(1) of the Cosmetics Rules 2020, notified by GSR 426(E). The application is form COS-1, the certificate COS-2, and it carries an RC/COS number held by the Indian importer or authorised agent, not by the Korean brand. The public cannot search that register. So the workable move is the simple one: ask the seller for the registration number.
Laneige’s position here is better than most imported brands and untidier than it looks. There is a named importer of record on the pack, and it is Amorepacific’s own Indian company. But that company is named after a different brand, and its address on the Laneige pack — JMD Megapolis, Sector 48 — is not the Vatika Tower, Sector 54 address the corporate register carries, nor the DLF Cyber City address the group’s other Indian site publishes. All three are in Gurugram, office moves recorded at different times would explain it, nothing published says which is current, and this audit does not choose. A brand name and the Indian company behind it being different things is the same lesson Bata teaches.
Ask for the registration number
An imported cosmetic carries an RC/COS registration certificate, and the Indian importer holds it. A seller who cannot produce the number is telling you something.
Expect Innisfree on a Laneige box
The declared importer is Innisfree Cosmetics India Pvt Ltd. That is correct, not a warning sign — the pack even adds “a family of Amorepacific” to explain it.
Compare per gram, not per pot
The 8 g lip mask at ₹600 is ₹75 per gram and the 20 g at ₹1,420 is ₹71. Two 20 g masks that differ only by scent are 23% apart.
Read the claim at source
The panel sizes and testing institutes are on the brand’s own Korean and American pages. A retailer’s listing carries the price, not the method.
Treat a deep discount as a question
Both channels checked showed the same MRP and the same 20% off on the same day. A lip mask far below that, from a seller you do not know, deserves a second look.
Amorepacific grew 8.5% in 2025, to group revenue of KRW 4.6232 trillion and operating profit of KRW 368 billion, its best in six years, and named Laneige as a driver behind a 20% revenue rise in the Americas. India gets no mention in that release. A brand can be a growth engine for its parent and still, in this market, be shelf space on somebody else’s website — the position Mochi occupies from the other direction, owning its stores and setting its own prices.
Common questions
Who imports Laneige into India?
The pack names Innisfree Cosmetics India Pvt Ltd, at JMD Megapolis in Gurgaon. It is Amorepacific’s own Indian company, carrying a sister brand’s name, and the declaration adds “a family of Amorepacific” to make that clear.
Is Laneige cheaper in Korea?
At list price, barely — the 50 ml Water Bank cream is ₩42,000, or ₹2,904, against an Indian MRP of ₹2,900 on 3 September 2026. Against the discounted prices Korean shoppers actually pay, India is 20% to 30% dearer.
Has Laneige been pulled up over its claims in India?
Not over its claims. Two matters have been upheld against Laneige India, on 7 November 2022 and 16 June 2023, and both concern influencer disclosure — paid posts without the required label — rather than whether a product claim was true.
Is Laneige cruelty-free?
PETA’s directory says it “may not be cruelty-free”, because the company has not signed PETA’s statement of assurance. That is an administrative gap, not a finding that the brand tests on animals. Amorepacific’s own ban dates to 2008.
Where can I buy it without worrying about fakes?
Buy where the pack names an Indian importer and the retailer names its source. Nykaa Luxe and the marketplace listing checked both showed the same MRP and the same 20% discount on 3 September 2026.

Laneige is the rare imported brand that charges Indian buyers roughly what it charges at home. A ₹4 gap between the Korean list price and the Indian MRP on the 50 ml Water Bank cream, and 20% below the American price, is as close to parity as this site has recorded on imported skincare. Its testing is better documented than almost anything in the category — named institutes, stated panel sizes, and an honest line between what an instrument measured and what 32 people said they felt.
The complaints are about what an Indian buyer can see. There is no Indian site, so the substantiation lives on pages written for Seoul and New York; the retailer’s listing carries a price and an authenticity badge instead. Two 20 g lip masks that differ only by scent are priced 23% apart with no explanation. And the importer named on the pack is a company called Innisfree, at an address the corporate register does not carry.
Buy the ₹1,207 lip mask and the ₹2,320 Water Bank cream without hesitation, but read the claim on the brand’s own site — the shop will not show it to you.
