Certina Brand Audit: Swatch Group-Owned Swiss Diver Watches

Who owns Certina, how it reaches India, what its warranty and movement claims say, what it costs in Switzerland, and how to check a Certina is genuine.
Certina brand audit by FashionAudit: Certina logo and the headline “Swatch Group-Owned Swiss Diver Watches” over a sporty Swiss diver's watch with a steel bracelet on a wet dock rope

Certina is a Swiss watch brand that traces itself to a Grenchen workshop opened by two brothers in 1888, and it has sat inside what became the Swatch Group since 1983. Swatch Group files it in its “Middle Range” beside Tissot, Mido and Hamilton, and it publishes no revenue for Certina alone.

For an Indian buyer the brand is unusually hard to reach through its own channels. On 22 September 2026 certina.com had no India entry in its country selector, its Indian store-locator page listed no retailer, and Myntra carried no Certina listing at all. What Certina does publish is detailed: reference numbers, movement names, a 24-month international warranty and Swiss prices.

The short answer

Certina is a Swiss brand wholly inside the Swatch Group, and the group’s Indian subsidiary lists it among its brands in court papers. But on 22 September 2026 the brand named no Indian retailer, no Indian service centre and no Indian price, and Myntra had no Certina shelf. The Powermatic 80 divers cost CHF 925 in Switzerland. If you buy one in India, insist on a warranty card stamped by an official dealer.

Who owns Certina

Certina’s own history page tells the story in four dates. In 1888 “Brothers Adolf and Alfred Kurth open their first factory for watch parts and movements in Grenchen.” In 1939 “The brand name ‘Certina’ is officially registered”, a name the page traces to the Latin certus. In 1959 the first watch built on the “Double Security” concept appeared, and in 1983 Certina became a founding member of the SMH group, formed when ASUAG merged with SSIH. “This group would go on to become the Swatch Group,” the page says.

  • 1939The Certina name is registered
  • 1959First watch with the DS “Double Security” concept

The history page names ASUAG as the parent before 1983 but gives no date for when Certina joined it.

Certina, Our History, read 22 September 2026.

Today the brand is one of the Swatch Group’s many labels, and the group’s structure is set out in the Omega audit and the Longines audit, so it is not repeated here. What matters for Certina is its shelf: the Annual Report 2025 lists it under “Middle Range” with Tissot, Balmain, Mido and Hamilton. Swatch Group’s own brand page gives the address as Le Locle and says “The brand has been based in Switzerland since 1888”.

The money figures are the owner’s, not the brand’s. Swatch Group reported net sales of CHF 6,280 million for 2025, down 1.3% at constant exchange rates, with operating profit of CHF 135 million and net profit of CHF 25 million. Its Watches & Jewelry segment, excluding production, earned an operating profit of CHF 549 million. For the half-year to 30 June 2026, reported on 21 July 2026, sales were CHF 3,121 million. None of these filings breaks out Certina.

The annual report does mention India once. The chair’s message says the group’s brands grew “most notably in the USA, Canada, India, the Middle East, and Europe” in the second half of 2025. That is a group statement in local currencies; it says nothing about Certina’s own Indian sales.

How Certina reaches India

No Indian partner is named in anything Certina publishes. The brand runs no Indian website, and its country selector runs from Austria to the UK, with China and an “International” option among them, but no India. So there is no Indian terms page, no “sold by” line and no grievance officer to read, which are the documents that usually name the seller for a foreign brand here.

The Indian company that does appear is a group subsidiary. Swatch Group (India) Private Limited, CIN U74999DL2000PTC105409, was incorporated on 25 April 2000 and has its registered office at Saket District Centre, New Delhi, according to the companies register mirror. A Delhi district court recorded in November 2022 that it is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Swatch Group Ltd and “responsible for the protection and enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights”. In three trade-mark suits it filed, its list of brands includes CERTINA.

The Indian company tied to Certina in any document read is therefore a group company, not a licensee or third-party distributor. No document read names it as Certina’s importer or seller, or shows where Certina watches are sold. A registry aggregator puts the Indian company’s operating revenue for the year to March 2023 in a range “Over INR 500 cr”, a range for all its brands and not a figure from filed accounts. The group also has a 2015 retail company in India; no document read connects it to Certina.

Certina on Myntra

Myntra carried no Certina brand listing on 22 September 2026. A search for “certina” offered no Certina brand filter and returned listings for a different brand, Cortina.

That leaves no marketplace price, seller of record or country-of-origin declaration to report for Certina. A Certina offered on another Indian marketplace would need to be judged on its seller and its warranty card, covered below.

Warranty and service in India

The warranty booklet is specific. “Your CERTINA® watch is warranted by Certina S.A. for a period of twenty-four (24) months from the date of purchase,” it says, and “The international CERTINA® warranty covers material and manufacturing defects existing at the time of delivery.” It is valid only if the certificate is “dated, fully and correctly completed and stamped by an official CERTINA® dealer”, and it is separate from any promise the seller makes.

The exclusions are the usual ones: battery life, “normal wear and tear and aging” such as a scratched crystal or a discoloured strap, accidents and misuse, and work done by “non-authorized persons”. The booklet has a separate section for the United States and none for India. Certina’s FAQ adds a 24-month guarantee on repairs done under warranty, and recommends a service “every three to four years”.

Two retired quartz models show a different term. The pages for the DS Action C032.451.11.057.00 and the DS Action 41mm C032.851.44.087.00, both marked “no longer available”, print a “3-year warranty”. The watches on sale print “2-year warranty”, matching the booklet.

No Certina page read says a watch bought abroad will be serviced in India. On 22 September 2026 the brand’s India store-locator page listed no Indian entry. Certina says its service centres “set their own service prices”, and no Indian price is published.

Worth knowing

The warranty is called international, but Certina names no Indian service point today. Before buying, ask the seller where the watch will be serviced in India, and get that answer on the invoice.

What Certina’s movements claim

Certina’s Swiss product pages name each movement by its own calibre name. None of them names the company that makes it, so this page does not either. The DS Action Diver 43mm, reference C032.607.11.051.00, carries the “POWERMATIC 80.611” automatic with an 80-hour power reserve, a Nivachron balance spring and a rating of “Diver’s watch 300m according to ISO 6425:2018”, the international standard for divers’ watches.

The chronometer claims sit on the two quartz models, and both are retired. Precidrive, in Certina’s words, achieves “real chronometer precision. With a rate deviation of +/-10 seconds per year”. No on-sale Certina read on the day carried a COSC chronometer certificate, the Swiss testing body’s rating, so a buyer paying for that word should check the reference first.

The DS concept is the brand’s signature. Certina says the “Double Security system has been delivered maximum protection for wristwatches since 1959”, and the 43mm page lists five parts: sapphire crystal, an O-ring on the stem, two O-rings in the crown, a case-back gasket and a reinforced case back. The FAQ says every sports model is “tested to a minimum pressure of 10 bar”.

The 38mm diver is sold as having “Extreme Shock Resistance” through the DS concept. None of the pages read gives a g-force figure, a test standard or a test house for it.

The DS Action Diver’s 300 m water rating is published against ISO 6425:2018, the international standard for divers’ watches.

Every Certina, “without exception”, bears “the ‘Swiss Made’ seal”, the Swatch Group’s Certina page says.

What Certina costs in India

Certina publishes no Indian price. There is no Indian site, no Indian MRP on any brand page, and no authorised Indian listing was found to take one from, so the Indian column below is empty. No conversion and no gap are printed, because there is nothing on the Indian side to compare.

certina.com/ch-en, read 22 September 2026. Matching would be by reference code; no Indian listing existed to match.

The Swiss figures are the brand’s own recommended prices, read the same day. Without an Indian price, the site sets no price tier for Certina. An empty tier here is a finding: the brand does not tell Indian buyers what its watches should cost.

For a watch brought back from abroad, the Union Budget 2026-27 cut the duty on goods imported for personal use to 10% from 1 April 2026. How that works out on a particular watch at a particular airport is not established here, and no GST rate on watches is printed on this page.

How to check a Certina is genuine

Certina publishes no serial-number lookup, hologram or verification page. Its “Register my watch” feature is described as a way to “access your warranty and user guide”, not as an authenticity check. What the brand does publish is a rule about channels, and a disclaimer: “Certina accepts no responsibility whatsoever for any watch or other product bearing the Certina name, trademark, logo or symbol, which was not purchased from an authorised dealer.”

Check 01

Match the reference

Read the reference number on the caseback or papers and look it up on certina.com. The movement, size and water rating should match the brand’s page.

Check 02

Get the stamped card

Certina’s FAQ tells buyers to ask for “the credit-card size guarantee, duly completed”. The booklet requires a date and an official dealer’s stamp.

Check 03

Ask who the dealer is

Certina’s locator names no Indian dealer, so ask the seller to show its authorisation from the brand in writing.

Those checks are only as strong as the channel. A buyer in India cannot confirm a dealer against a published Certina list, because none was published on the day.

The record in India

A search of Indian court records for “certina” shows no decided case in which Certina watches were the subject — no counterfeit seizure, consumer order or trade-mark ruling about Certina goods.

Certina’s name does appear in three Delhi district-court decrees, from 22 November 2022, 17 August 2023 and 25 September 2023. In each, Swatch Group (India) listed CERTINA among its brands, but the suit concerned other brands, and one decree records the plaintiff confining its case to four of them. Each decree was granted after the defendants did not contest the trial. Those rulings were on those suits as they then stood; nobody has ruled on anything about Certina watches.

For readers comparing Swatch Group brands, the Tissot audit covers a sibling on the same “Middle Range” shelf.

Who Certina is actually for

Certina suits a buyer who wants a Swiss-made mechanical diver with a named ISO rating and an 80-hour movement, and who can buy it where the brand is properly sold. In Switzerland, that watch lists at CHF 925. It is a harder recommendation for someone buying in India today, where the brand publishes no dealer, no service address and no price.

Common questions

Who owns Certina?

The Swatch Group Ltd, listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange. Certina was a founding member of SMH in 1983, the group that became the Swatch Group, and sits in its “Middle Range” with Tissot, Mido and Hamilton.

Is Certina sold officially in India?

Swatch Group (India) Private Limited lists CERTINA among its brands in court papers. But on 22 September 2026 Certina’s own site named no Indian retailer, no Indian service centre and no Indian price, so whether it is currently retailed through official channels is not established.

Is Certina on Myntra?

No. A search on 22 September 2026 showed no Certina brand listing; the results were for Cortina instead.

Does the Certina warranty work in India?

The booklet calls it an international 24-month warranty from Certina S.A., valid with a card stamped by an official dealer. No Certina page read says a watch bought abroad is serviced in India, and no Indian service centre was listed that day.

Does Certina use ETA movements?

Certina’s pages name the calibres, such as the Powermatic 80.611, but not who makes them. This page does not name a maker the brand does not name.

The FA take

Certina is what its papers say it is: a Swiss brand from 1888, wholly inside the Swatch Group, with specific published specifications. The DS Action Diver’s 300 m rating is tied to ISO 6425:2018, and its Powermatic 80.611 is named with an 80-hour reserve, at CHF 925 in Switzerland. For a buyer abroad with an official dealer nearby, that is a clear, checkable watch.

India is the thinner part of the picture. On 22 September 2026 Certina named no Indian dealer, no Indian service centre and no Indian price, and Myntra had no shelf. The pages read give no test figure for the “Extreme Shock Resistance” line, and the chronometer models read are no longer sold.

A well-documented Swiss diver that is poorly documented in India: buy one only with a stamped card and a written answer on where it will be serviced.
