Herschel Supply Co. Brand Audit: Canadian Backpacks and Prices

Herschel Supply Co. is a private Vancouver backpack brand. Who owns it, how it reaches India, what it costs in Canada and the US, and what its warranty covers.
Herschel Supply Co. brand audit by FashionAudit: Herschel Supply Co. logo and the headline “Canadian Backpacks and Prices” over a canvas daypack backpack and a matching duffel bag

Herschel Supply Co. is a Vancouver bag company, known for canvas-and-strap backpacks such as the Little America, and it names itself as Herschel Supply Company Ltd. in its own terms. It is privately held and publishes no revenue, no shareholder list and no annual report.

For an Indian buyer the harder question is how a Herschel bag gets here at all. No Indian distributor, subsidiary or website is named in anything read on 22 September 2026, Myntra carries no Herschel shelf, and the brand’s warranty claim form does not list India.

The short answer

Herschel is a Canadian brand, run from Vancouver by a private company that publishes no owners’ names or figures. No document read names an Indian partner, and Myntra had no Herschel listing on 22 September 2026. The “Limited Lifetime Warranty” is real but is void if the bag came from an unauthorised retailer, and the claim form offers no Indian option. There is no Indian price to judge, so this page sets no price band.

Who owns Herschel

The company’s own pages name the operator and stop there. The terms of use say Herschel Supply Company Ltd. runs the Herschel sites, with disputes “governed by the laws of British Columbia and the applicable federal laws of Canada”. The privacy policy gives the Vancouver address and a London office at 5 New Street Square.

The About Us page explains the name, not the owners. It says Herschel comes from “a small town in Saskatchewan, where three generations of our family grew up”, and places the headquarters in Vancouver. It names no founder, no founding year and no shareholder.

The founders come from the press. Bloomberg Businessweek, on 14 May 2015, named them as brothers Jamie and Lyndon Cormack, who started the company in 2009, and said that “since the company is private, they won’t share revenue figures”. That article is secondary and eleven years old. It does not tell a reader who owns the company in 2026.

One governance fact is on the brand’s own record. Its supply-chain disclosure says it “was approved by Herschel Supply’s Board of Directors on 20 February 2025 for the 2025 fiscal year”. A board exists; its members and the shareholders behind it are not published. This page gives no incorporation number or share structure, and names no investor, because no document read names one.

How big it has been

Herschel has never published a sales figure, so only growth rates exist. Bloomberg reported in 2015 that sales “rose 33 percent in 2014, according to retail analyst NPD Group”. Slate, on 2 September 2016, wrote that production grew by 52% from 2013 to 2014, “and another 35 percent the following year”.

The same Slate piece said Herschel bags were then on sale in 70 countries through 10,000 points of sale. That was the position in 2016. No later count has been published by the company, so the figure belongs to its date.

  • Feb 2025Board approves the supply-chain disclosure

None of these records names an Indian seller.

How Herschel reaches India

No Indian partner is named in anything read. The brand’s region selector offers the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and the European Union. Its terms list regional sites for Canada, the US, the EU, the UK, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand and Japan, plus an international site. India appears nowhere in the terms, the privacy policy, the warranty page or the brand-protection page.

The terms name the markets where Herschel runs regional sites, and India is not among them. The US shipping help pages cover domestic US delivery only, and none of the pages read says whether Herschel ships to India from any of its own sites.

The brand-protection page says Herschel has “partnered with trusted distributors and retailers around the world”. It names none of them, and the store locator lists no Indian stockist.

The Indian companies register points the same way. A search of a register mirror for “HERSCHEL” on 22 September 2026 listed nine companies with that exact name — businesses in rubber, pharmaceuticals, motors, travel, power projects and software — and none of them is Herschel Supply. No Indian subsidiary of a foreign company carries the name. A distributor need not carry a brand’s name, so this shows only that no Indian company trades under the Herschel Supply name.

The Indian trade marks are held directly from Canada. A trade-mark register mirror shows five registered marks in the name of Herschel Supply Company, Vancouver, all filed through the New Delhi firm Anand And Anand. The word mark HERSCHEL, No. 2667234, was filed on 27 January 2014 across classes 9, 16, 18, 25, 28 and 35, and is shown “Valid Upto 27 January 2034”. Class 18 covers backpacks, duffels, messenger bags, luggage and suitcases. The mirror shows no registered user on that mark — that is, no Indian company recorded as licensed to use it.

The mirror also records “Used Since 27 January 2014”, the same day as the filing. That is the applicant’s own statement on the form. It is not evidence that Herschel bags were on sale in India that day.

Herschel on Myntra

There is no Herschel shelf on Myntra. A search for “herschel” on 22 September 2026 showed nothing, and no Herschel brand filter appeared. Columbia, searched the same day, showed 2,426 listings.

That leaves no Indian marketplace declaration to read: no seller of record, no importer and no country of origin to set against the Vancouver address. For most brands that declaration is the one document an Indian buyer can use to see who is answerable for the goods, and for Herschel there is none on Myntra to read.

Where Herschel bags are made

The brand does not say. Its supply-chain disclosure, written for California and UK law, names no countries, no supplier count and no owned factories. The one line it offers on method is this: “All factories which produce finished products are audited at least once a year by an independent, accredited third party.” It does not name the audit firm.

The only country in print comes from old press. Bloomberg reported in 2015 that “the company keeps about 15 factories in China busy”, and Slate wrote in 2016 that Herschel’s products were “largely manufactured in China”. Both are a decade old and describe the business as it was then. The herschel.com product pages read for the Classic and the Little America show no country of origin.

For a bag bought in India, the answer sits where the law puts it: the Legal Metrology panel on the pack, which must carry the MRP, the country of origin and the importer’s name. A Herschel bag sold here without that panel has no Indian party named as answerable for it.

What Herschel costs in India

Herschel has no Indian price. It runs no Indian site and had no Myntra listing on 22 September 2026, so there is no Indian MRP to set beside its home price, and this page gives no price band.

Its home prices are easy to read. The table sets the Canadian site, the home market, beside the US site, for the same style codes, read on 22 September 2026. Neither site states whether its prices include sales tax. No exchange rate is applied and no gap is computed.

BackpackStyle codeCanada, herschel.ca (CAD, regular)US, herschel.com (USD, regular)
Little America, 30 L11390CAD 160.00USD 140.00
Retreat11397CAD 140.00USD 120.00
Classic, 26 L11544CAD 70.00USD 60.00

herschel.ca and herschel.com product pages, read 22 September 2026. Some colours were on sale that day at lower prices.

Sale prices ran alongside. On the Canadian site one Little America colour was CAD 135.99 and one Retreat colour CAD 97.99; on the US site some Classic colours showed USD 41.99 against a compare-at price of USD 60.00. The US Classic product page itself showed “$60.00” as the regular price on the same day, and prices can change within hours.

For an Indian buyer ordering from abroad, two tax facts are on the record. Travelling bags and similar goods of heading 4202 carry IGST at 18% under Notification No. 9/2025-Integrated Tax (Rate), dated 17 September 2025. The Budget 2026-27 cut customs duty on goods imported for personal use from 20% to 10% from 1 April 2026; how that applies in practice to a courier order is not established. Neither matters until a Herschel site will deliver here, and none of the pages read says one does.

The lifetime warranty, and where it reaches

Herschel’s warranty page offers a “Limited Lifetime Warranty” on bags, accessories, drinkware and luggage, for “the duration of the original purchaser’s lifetime”. It covers material and manufacturing defects. With proof of purchase the remedy is a replacement or a gift card; without it, a credit of “70% of your item’s last selling price”. Apparel gets one year.

The limits are published in the help centre. The warranty excludes “misuse, neglect, accidents, abrasion, solvents, cleaning liquids, damage during transport, or any modification”, and “general wear and tear … is not considered a material or manufacturing defect”. On luggage, “damage caused while in the possession of an airline and/or carrier is not covered”. Current hardshell, softshell and hybrid luggage carries the lifetime cover; retired lines such as Trade and Highland carry five years.

The lifetime is the owner’s, but the claim form’s map stops at Mexico and the edge of Europe.

Two conditions matter most for India. The warranty is void if the bag was bought from an unauthorised retailer. And the claim form lists the US and its territories, Canada, Mexico, the UK and the EU states; India is not among them. The page’s instruction for everyone else is: “If your region is not available to select, please reach out to customerservice@herschel.com”. Whether an Indian purchase will be honoured is not published.

What else the brand claims

Herschel’s weather-resistant line is described in its help centre as “100% recycled polyester, excluding trims, and has a matte TPE coating”. No certifier is named — no Global Recycled Standard or similar third-party scheme stands behind the figure on the pages read.

On chemicals the brand names a laboratory. Its testing protocol was “developed with SGS as our nominated third party lab”, based on the EU’s REACH rules and California’s Proposition 65, and the help centre lists BPA-free materials, no lead in fabric and zippers, and a water-repellent finish without PFAS. SGS is named; no certificate or test report is published. The small leather-look goods on the menu are sold as vegan leather.

How to tell a genuine Herschel

Herschel publishes no buyer-facing check: no code, hologram, QR label or serial lookup. Its brand-protection page tells buyers to “avoid purchasing Herschel Supply products from unauthorized retail channels such as flea markets, discount websites and third-party marketplaces”, asks for suspected fakes to be reported to legal@herschel.com, and says buyers of counterfeits “are likely eligible for a full refund of the purchase price” from the seller or payment channel.

It publishes no list of authorised sellers, in India or anywhere else. That leaves the warranty’s authorised-retailer condition impossible for an Indian buyer to check from any brand document. Compare Casio, whose Indian site does publish its authorised sellers, as our Casio audit sets out.

Check 01

Read the pack

Look for the Legal Metrology panel with MRP, country of origin and importer. No panel means no Indian party answerable for the bag.

Check 02

Ask who the seller is

Herschel names no Indian stockist. Ask the seller in writing where the stock came from before paying.

Check 03

Keep the invoice

A warranty claim needs proof of purchase from an authorised retailer. Without one, the best remedy is a 70% credit.

Check 04

Email before you rely on it

India is not on the claim form. Write to customerservice@herschel.com and keep the reply.

The record in India

India’s public case-law database showed no result for “Herschel Supply” on 22 September 2026. The same database carries eleven results for Tumi as a trade mark. That describes one database on one day; it is not a search of every court, and nobody has ruled on anything involving Herschel in India that this page could report.

Who Herschel is actually for

Herschel suits a buyer who wants its particular look and can buy it where the warranty plainly applies — in Canada, the US, the UK or the EU, from a retailer Herschel would recognise, with an invoice. There, a Little America at CAD 160 comes with a lifetime defect warranty the buyer can actually claim.

In India the same bag comes with no named importer, no Myntra listing and no Indian option on the claim form. A buyer who wants a backpack with an Indian company answerable for it can compare the Indian makers in our audits of Wildcraft, Skybags and Uppercase.

Common questions

Is Herschel a Canadian brand?

Yes. Its operating company, Herschel Supply Company Ltd., is based in Vancouver, British Columbia, and its terms apply British Columbia law. Bloomberg reported in 2015 that it was founded there in 2009.

Who owns Herschel Supply Co.?

The company is private and publishes no shareholder information. Bloomberg named brothers Jamie and Lyndon Cormack as founders in 2015; no filing read says who holds the shares today.

Is Herschel sold officially in India?

No document read names an Indian distributor, subsidiary or website for Herschel, and Myntra had no Herschel listing on 22 September 2026. The brand’s own regional sites do not include India.

Does the Herschel lifetime warranty work in India?

India is not on the claim form, and the warranty is void for bags bought from unauthorised retailers. The page tells buyers outside the listed regions to email customer service; it does not say whether an Indian purchase is covered.

How do I check a Herschel bag is genuine?

Herschel offers no code or serial check and no authorised-seller list. It warns against flea markets, discount websites and third-party marketplaces and takes reports at legal@herschel.com.

The FA take

Herschel is plain about the parts it chooses to publish: a Vancouver operating company, a lifetime defect warranty with its exclusions written out, a named test laboratory, and home prices of CAD 70 to CAD 160 for its core backpacks. Anyone buying in Canada, the US, the UK or the EU from a recognised shop gets a clear deal.

India is outside that deal on every document read. No Indian partner is named, Myntra carried no listing on 22 September 2026, the claim form has no Indian option, and the warranty is void from an unauthorised retailer while no authorised list exists. The owners, the revenue and the factory countries are unpublished too, with only decade-old press pointing to China.

A good warranty that stops at India’s border on paper — buy a Herschel abroad with an invoice, or treat one sold here as coming with no one named behind it.
