Wildcraft is the bag most Indian trekkers buy first, and it is sold on being ours. Both halves of that reputation deserve testing. On the company’s own listings, its rucksacks and backpacks declare India without exception, and every wheeled suitcase declares China. Its warranty promises five years in one line and three months in another. And the 50% off on its luggage never moves.
Wildcraft’s rucksacks, backpacks and slings declare India on 32 of 32 records read on 31 August 2026. Its wheeled luggage declares China on 14 of 14. The published warranty gives Wildcraft backpacks five years, Wiki and Torq backpacks 18 months, footwear three months, and voids cover for “exposure to water”. Every trolley sells at exactly 50% off an MRP set at exactly double.

How it started
The register is thinner than the brand story. Wildcraft India Limited was incorporated on 27 April 1998 at ROC Bangalore, and its two whole-time directors joined on 28 April 2008 — ten years and one day later. Nothing public bridges that decade, so this audit narrates no founding. It is an unlisted public limited company with ₹55.73 crore of paid-up capital and a nominee director since 16 September 2022 — an investor’s board seat, and nothing more.
- 1998Wildcraft India Limited incorporated, 27 April, ROC Bangalore
- 2008Wildcraft Manufacturing Private Limited incorporated; both whole-time directors join
- 2017The manufacturing company files its last accounts; it is now struck off
- 2020HYPASHIELD and HYPAWARM registered as trade marks
- 2025Accounts filed to 31 March; revenue ₹465.16 crore, down 14%
The group company whose name says manufacturing has been off the register since 2017.
That matters against the Made-in-India positioning: the trading company is classified under retail, not manufacturing, and where its India-declared bags are made is not published.
The register carries ₹465.16 crore of revenue for the year ended 31 March 2025, down 14%, and headcount of 2,728, down 11%. Open charges registered against borrowings stand at ₹396.17 crore, mostly to HDFC Bank and Axis Bank — debt security worth most of a year’s sales.
No profit or loss figure for Wildcraft is public in any year. Read the 14% revenue fall as a smaller company, not as proof of a recovery or a collapse — neither claim can be supported.
The 2020 pivot into masks has not been unwound. The SUPERMASK W95 Plus, the W95x Viroshield and the Wiki Champ were all in stock on 31 August 2026, declaring India, and the Wiki Champ at ₹400 is the cheapest thing Wildcraft sells. What the pivot did to the accounts, no published figure answers.
What they actually make
Across 119 product records read on 31 August 2026, the origin declarations split along one clean line: the wheel. What you carry on your back declares India. What you pull behind you declares China.
| Category | Declared origin | Records |
|---|---|---|
| Rucksacks, backpacks, slings | India, no exceptions | 32 of 32 |
| Duffles, non-wheeled | India | 9 of 9 |
| Wheeled luggage | China, no exceptions | 14 of 14 |
| Tents | China | 2 of 2 |
| Sleeping bags and masks | India | 13 of 13 |
| Jackets, rainwear, trek pants | India or Bangladesh | 23 India, 11 Bangladesh |
| Footwear | Mostly imported | 6 South Korea, 2 China, 2 India |
Wildcraft’s own listings, 119 records across 13 categories, read 31 August 2026.
So “Wildcraft is Made in India” holds for the thing the brand is known for and not for its suitcases. That is still a better domestic record than most of the category manages, and it belongs beside footwear brands that declare Indian manufacture honestly, such as Bata and Sparx.
Four declarations give different answers on the same data. The Set of 3 Canopus Cabin Medium Large Bag declares India while the three hard trolleys inside it declare China. It is the catalogue’s dearest item. Two records named “Men Rain Protect 8000mm Suit-Black” declare India and Bangladesh. Five rainwear records carry a blank where the country should be, though origin is a mandatory declaration here. And six pairs of walking shoes declare South Korea while the women’s version of the same model declares India.
The specifications are thin too. Fabric, denier and frame type are published nowhere, capacity appears only in a product name — the Trailblazer 50 L is recorded internally as 51 litres — and the 8000 mm waterproofing figure carries no test standard. HYPADRY is a trade mark, not a measurement.
What Wildcraft costs in India
On Wildcraft’s own site on 31 August 2026, bags sold between ₹979 for a Winky backpack and ₹5,999 for a Trailblazer 60 rucksack; luggage ran ₹3,079 to ₹14,397. GST under HSN 4202 is 18%, and there is no anti-dumping duty on suitcases, so the Chinese origin carries no import penalty.
The discount pattern is the story. All ten wheeled bags priced sell at exactly 50.0% off, on MRPs that are exactly double. ₹11,998 is ₹5,999 doubled; ₹28,794 is ₹14,397 doubled. These are not numbers a pricing team chooses and then discounts.

The India-made rucksacks are priced completely differently. The Cliff 45 runs 10–12% off, the Cliff 60 sits at 16%, and the Trailblazer 50 L and 60 L sell at full list. A company discounts hardest where it believes least, and the standing half-price tells you which line it trusts. It is the same architecture that makes a Campus sneaker’s printed MRP close to meaningless.
Who Wildcraft is actually for
The honest test is Decathlon, selling the same shopper the same object.
| Wildcraft Trailblazer 50 L | Decathlon Simond MT100 50 L | |
|---|---|---|
| Price charged | ₹4,999 | ₹2,999 |
| Stated warranty | 5 years, zips, runners, buckles and stitching only | 10 years |
| Cheapest backpack in range | ₹979 | ₹199 |
Decathlon sells the same 50 litres for 40% less and states double the warranty. Below ₹1,000 Wildcraft does not compete at all, and between ₹2,000 and ₹6,000 it charges more and warrants for less time.
That leaves a narrow case. Buy Wildcraft for a rucksack, sling or duffle that declares Indian manufacture, from a shop you can walk back into — the reasoning that sends people to Metro rather than a marketplace. Do not buy the suitcase for the flag, or the shoes for the warranty. Judge the fabric and frame by hand, since neither is published.
Reputation and controversies
Wildcraft’s published warranty is the most revealing document it has online, and its terms differ from its own product pages.
| Brand and category | Period the document states |
|---|---|
| Wildcraft backpacks | 5 years |
| Wildcraft travel cases and luggage | “5-Year International Warranty” |
| Wildcraft footwear | 3 months |
| Wiki and Torq backpacks | 18 months |
| Wiki and Torq luggage | 3 years international |
| Tents, sleeping bags, apparel, rainwear | Not mentioned anywhere |
Four Wiki backpacks display “5 Years” on the product page against the document’s 18 months, so a shopper buying on the listing has under a third of the advertised cover. Rainwear listings promise 12 months with no published terms behind them, and tents carry no warranty at all.
What is covered is narrower than most readers assume. On a backpack it is runners, zips, buckles and stitching — not the fabric, the straps or the back system. The void list then excludes “zip bursts”, the commonest way a rucksack zip fails, in the same document that names zips as covered.
Then the clause that should stop an outdoor shopper cold. Cover is void for damage from “exposure to extreme temperatures, solvents, acids, water”.
A brand selling 8000 mm rainwear and trekking rucksacks has written a warranty that exposure to water voids.
The luggage warranty is called international, yet the same document excludes “transport damage (by airlines, for example)” and tells you to claim against the transit company. All “international” means here is that you can start a claim from abroad.
The clause with the sharpest cost sits at the end. Replacements “cannot be combined with any ongoing store promotions or discounts and will be billed at the full MRP”, while your claim “shall not exceed the original purchase amount as stated in the invoice”. Buy an Octane Cabin Soft Trolley at ₹5,999 against an MRP of ₹11,998. If it fails and your model is out of stock, your credit is capped at ₹5,999 and the replacement is billed at ₹11,998 with the standing 50% off withheld — roughly ₹6,000 more for a like-for-like swap.
The warranty is non-transferable, so a gifted or resold bag carries none of it, and it is carry-in. The document adds that “the company’s decision with respect to the claim shall be final”.
Buying it in India
Counterfeiting is not the risk here. Misdescription is, and every check below runs in the shop.
Find the country line, not the brand story
Origin must appear on the box and the listing. On a Wildcraft trolley, expect China; no country at all is a missing mandatory declaration.
Read the warranty page, not the product page
The two disagree on Wiki backpacks by three and a half years, and the policy is what a service centre applies.
Ask which components are covered
Name them at the counter: fabric, straps, frame, wheels. On a backpack only runners, zips, buckles and stitching are covered.
Treat the MRP as noise
An MRP exactly double the selling price across a whole line is a pricing device. Compare prices charged, not discounts.
Keep the invoice, and know what it caps
Your claim cannot exceed the invoice amount, and a replacement is billed at full MRP — on a half-price bag, the other half again.
Common questions
Is Wildcraft made in India?
Partly. On 119 records read on 31 August 2026, rucksacks, backpacks and slings declared India on 32 of 32, as did duffles, sleeping bags and masks. All 14 wheeled luggage records declared China.
Do Wildcraft bags really have a five-year warranty?
Wildcraft-branded backpacks do, covering only runners, zips, buckles and stitching. Wiki and Torq backpacks get 18 months, though some Wiki listings display “5 Years”. Footwear gets three months.
Does it cover my suitcase if the airline damages it?
No. The policy excludes airline transport damage by name and directs you to claim against the transit company.
Is the 50% off on Wildcraft luggage a real sale?
It is a standing price. All ten wheeled bags checked on 31 August 2026 sold at exactly 50.0% off MRPs that were exactly double. The India-made rucksacks sold at 0–16% off.

Wildcraft’s rucksacks and backpacks are the real product and the real Indian one — 32 of 32 records declaring India, priced at or near list because the company is not desperate to move them. For a domestically declared daypack from a shop with a counter, that case holds.
Everything around it deserves scepticism. The suitcases are Chinese, permanently half price off a doubled MRP, and covered by a document that excludes airline damage inside a warranty called international. It names zips as covered and zip bursts as excluded, and voids cover for exposure to water on gear sold for the monsoon. The replacement clause is worse still: on a bag bought at ₹5,999 against an ₹11,998 MRP, a like-for-like swap would ask you for roughly ₹6,000 more.
Buy the rucksack if the Indian declaration is worth ₹2,000 to you, because Decathlon sells the same 50 litres for ₹2,999 with double the warranty — and buy your suitcase elsewhere.
