Salomon was born in the French Alps in 1947, and the company behind it is still French. Its parent is not: Salomon belongs to Amer Sports, Inc., a Cayman Islands company listed on the New York Stock Exchange, whose largest shareholder is ANTA Sports.
In India the brand is harder to pin down. It launched here in 2011 through a sports chain, a listed Indian retailer said in June 2026 that it plans to carry it, and on 20 September 2026 Myntra’s brand listing held not one Salomon shoe.
Salomon is owned by Amer Sports, a NYSE-listed group. ANTA Sports held 42.5% of Amer Sports on a filing dated 6 December 2024, which is a large minority and not a majority. Nothing Salomon or its parent publishes names an Indian company, distributor or seller, and the brand was not on Myntra’s brand listing on 20 September 2026.

Who owns Salomon
Salomon S.A.S appears by name on Exhibit 8.1, the list of subsidiaries Amer Sports filed with its annual Form 20-F for 2025. Amer Sports, Inc. is incorporated in the Cayman Islands and its ordinary shares trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol AS.
Who stands behind Amer Sports is where care matters. ANTA Sports Products Limited reported 46.0% on 8 February 2024 and 42.5% on 6 December 2024, held mostly through two British Virgin Islands companies it wholly owns. On the same December date, Dennis J. Wilson reported 18.8% through Five Boys Investments. Neither figure is a majority.
Amer Sports’ own annual report for 2025 calls ANTA “our largest shareholder”, and that is as far as any filing read goes. No shareholders agreement, board-nomination right or controlled-company statement appears in the prospectus, the 2026 meeting notice or the annual report. So this page says what the filings say: Salomon’s parent is listed in New York, and ANTA is that parent’s largest shareholder.
ANTA’s 42.5% is a figure of 6 December 2024. Amer Sports has issued shares since, so the holding today may be different — treat any current percentage you read elsewhere as needing its own filing.
Amer Sports reports three segments, and Salomon is not one of them. Its half-year report places Salomon inside Outdoor Performance with Atomic and Armada. That segment earned US$2,403.7 million in 2025, a segment figure that belongs to three brands, and no Salomon-only number is published anywhere.
The group itself is growing fast. Revenue was US$6,566.2 million for 2025 against US$5,183.3 million a year earlier, with net income of US$440.4 million. It has reported since: US$3,578.1 million of revenue and US$287.8 million of net income for the six months to 30 June 2026, published on 18 August 2026. The company’s own release credited “excellent momentum in Salomon Softgoods” for Outdoor Performance growth of 37% in the quarter.
- 1947Founded in the French Alps
- 1997adidas buys the Salomon Group, becomes adidas-Salomon AG
- 2005Joins Amer Sports, by Amer’s own account
- 2019Consortium buys Amer Sports; delisted in Helsinki
- 2024Amer Sports lists in New York
adidas and Amer Sports each describe their half of the 2005 move; neither page names the other.
Two dates in that line disagree between sources, and both are printed here. adidas places the separation in the entry introducing its 2006 Reebok purchase, “one year after adidas and Salomon go their separate ways”. Amer Sports dates its New York listing to 1 February 2024, while ANTA’s Schedule 13D dates its purchase of listing shares to 5 February.
Salomon in India: a 2011 launch, a 2026 plan
On 21 April 2011, Salomon launched in India through what the trade press called “an exclusive marketing tie-up with Planet Sports”, then part of Pantaloon Retail India Ltd. It sold through Planet Sports outlets and some Central stores, with footwear at ₹4,499 to ₹7,999. That was fifteen years ago, Planet Sports has changed hands since, and it describes nothing about who sells Salomon today.
The next dated event on the record is a plan. On 9 June 2026 Reuters reported that Brandman Retail Limited, a listed Indian retailer, said it plans to add Salomon to its portfolio. A plan is not a distribution agreement, and no filing read shows Salomon or Amer Sports appointing anyone in India.
- 1982SALOMON trade marks filed in classes 25 and 28
- 2011Launch through Planet Sports
- 2017Retail-services mark filed, claiming use since 1 November 2012
- June 2026Brandman Retail says it plans to add the brand
- Sep 2026Not on Myntra’s brand listing
Between those points, the brand’s own footprint stops short of India. Salomon’s website publishes 23 product locales, none Indian, and its store finder lists about two dozen countries, Turkey, Kazakhstan and South Africa among them, but not India. Amer Sports’ contact page names no Indian office. Its annual report for 2025 was read for an India market statement, subsidiary or distributor, and none was found in this reading.
The companies register agrees. A register mirror read on 19 September 2026 carried no Indian company named Amer Sports and none belonging to the brand; the parent’s Exhibit 8.1, which lists about eighty subsidiaries from Finland to New Zealand, names none in India either.
The Indian trade mark sits with the French company itself. Salomon S.A.S is shown as proprietor of SALOMON in class 25, for clothing and footwear, renewed to 6 February 2030, and in class 28 for sporting goods, as a trade-mark register mirror carries it. A class 35 registration for retail services, applied for on 10 May 2017, claims use in India from 1 November 2012. That date is the brand’s own assertion on an application form, not proof of trading.
Not on Myntra, and a search that sends you elsewhere
Myntra’s brand listing showed no Salomon listings on 20 September 2026. That is a reading of one marketplace on one day; the same day, Columbia showed 2,422 listings. A plain search for “Salomon” on the same site brought back The North Face instead.
None of this says Salomon is absent from India. It says the brand publishes nothing about who sells it here, and Myntra had no listing under its name that day.
Made in India? The supplier list does not say
Amer Sports publishes a list of its major finished-goods suppliers, dated August 2026. Three factories on it are in India: AHP Apparels at Shimoga in Karnataka, filed under the Outdoor category with 1,001 to 5,000 workers, and Arvind Limited in Gujarat and Kwik Patch in Tamil Nadu, both under Ball Sports.
Outdoor is the category Salomon sits in, but the list names categories and never brands, and AHP Apparels is an apparel maker by its name. So this page does not say Salomon shoes are made in India. It says India appears on the group’s supplier list as a place where it has goods made, and not as a place where it has a selling company.
What Salomon costs in India
Salomon publishes no Indian price — it has no Indian locale and no Indian entry on its store finder — and Myntra had nothing to price on 20 September 2026. The only Indian price band on the record is the 2011 launch range of ₹4,499 to ₹7,999, which is history rather than a guide.
The home prices are clear. France is the home market, and on 19 September 2026 the brand’s French and American stores showed these list prices, none reduced:
| Model | Model code | France | United States |
|---|---|---|---|
| Speedcross 6 GORE-TEX, women | lg9215 | €170 | $170 |
| X Ultra 360 Mid GORE-TEX, women | li5208 | €165 | $170 |
| Aero Blaze 4, men | li9270 | €140 | $140 |
| Ultra Glide, men | lg6156 | €140 | Not read |
Salomon’s French and US product pages, read 19 September 2026. Neither page states whether tax is included, so the figures are printed as shown.
The matching codes are ready for a like-for-like test. The model code in each page address is the same across every country store, and the X Ultra 360 Mid GORE-TEX carries one article number, L49101500, in both France and America. The Indian half was not read, so no comparison was taken. That is a gap in this page, not a statement that no matching shoe is sold in India.
Nor does this page attach import duty arithmetic to Salomon. Whether the shoes reaching Indian buyers are imported or made here is not established, and until it is, any duty figure would be a guess.
What the numbers on the page mean
Running and hiking shoes are sold on three measurements: stack height, the thickness of foam under the heel and forefoot; drop, the difference between the two; and weight. Salomon’s own product pages were read in two markets on 19 September 2026.
| Model and page | Stack height | Drop | Weight | Size stated |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aero Blaze 4, US | 36 mm heel, 28 mm forefoot | 8 mm | 8 oz | No |
| Aero Blaze 4, France | 36 mm heel, 28 mm forefoot | 8 mm | 240 g | No |
| Speedcross 6 GORE-TEX, US | Not on the page | Not on the page | 10 oz | No |
| Speedcross 6 GORE-TEX, France | 33 mm heel, 23 mm forefoot | 10 mm | 279 g | No |
| X Ultra 360 Mid GORE-TEX, US | Not on the page | 10 mm | 12 oz | No |
| X Ultra 360 Mid GORE-TEX, France | 24 mm heel, 14 mm forefoot | 10 mm | 345 g | No |
| Ultra Glide, France | 32 mm heel, 26 mm forefoot | 6 mm | 260 g | No |
Credit first: every French page read gave all three figures in millimetres and grams. The American pages gave stack height on the road shoe and not on the trail or hiking shoes, even for the same model code.
The bigger gap sits on every page. Not one of the seven states the shoe size the weight refers to; the French pages say “Poids unitaire” and the American ones “Weight per unit”. A weight with no size cannot be set against another brand’s weight, which is the comparison a buyer needs. Decathlon showed the same page-by-page variation in what it prints, so the honest sentence names the page and the day, never a company policy.
The same Speedcross is 33 millimetres thick at the heel on its French page and has no stack height on its American one.
What the performance claims stand on
Every technology named on the Salomon pages read on 19 September 2026 was checked for three things: a number on a real scale, a named test standard and a named outside laboratory.
| Technology | What the page says | Number | Standard | Test house |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| contaGRIP outsoles | “Built for maximum grip on loose, soft, rugged, and uneven surfaces” | No | No | No |
| EnergyCell midsole | “exceptional energy return along with substantial cushioning and durability” | No | No | No |
| optiFOAM | “superior energy absorption and energy return” | No | No | No |
| quickLACE | “Minimalistic and strong lace for one-pull tightening” | No | No | No |
| Reverse Camber | “helps you feel like you are floating over the ground” | No | No | No |
| OrthoLite sockliner | “superior cushioning, breathability and durability” | No | No | No |
| GORE-TEX membrane | “A waterproof and breathable Gore-Tex membrane” | No | No | No |
fuzeFOAM, sensiFIT and advancedCHASSIS are named on the pages in the same way, with no figure behind them. Salomon’s technologies page presents five themes, from “Stability & Control” to “Grip & Traction”, and prints no figure, standard or laboratory anywhere on it.
The brand can publish a hard number: it prints millimetres of foam and grams of shoe on the same pages. For the performance claims beside them, it prints none. Ten other sports-shoe brands were read the same week, and not one named an outside test house for a performance claim either, so this is how the category writes rather than one company’s habit.
GORE-TEX: what Salomon and Gore publish
A licensed membrane is the one place a shoe brand could point at somebody else’s published test data. On the Speedcross 6 page, Salomon’s whole claim is “a waterproof and breathable Gore-Tex membrane to keep your feet dry”. The X Ultra 360 Mid says “waterproof Gore-Tex protection”. Neither page publishes a hydrostatic-head figure, the water-pressure measure behind a waterproof rating, or a breathability figure or standard.
The other end was checked the same day. Gore’s own footwear page lists Salomon by name among roughly ninety brands and promises “guaranteed to keep you dry” protection. Its answers to common questions say waterproof tests happen “in a controlled rain room” and that products are “tested by Gore”. It publishes no hydrostatic head, no breathability rating and no ISO or EN number.
So for a GORE-TEX Salomon shoe, neither company’s pages publish a hydrostatic-head figure, and the testing described is Gore’s own.
Buying Salomon in India
Salomon publishes no way to check a specific pair. No code lookup, hologram, QR or serial check was found on its product pages, technologies page or published landing pages. Some brands do publish one: Diesel’s site carries a 12-digit code with QR and NFC verification. With no Indian seller named by the brand, the checks below concern the shop and the box.
Search by the full brand name, and read what comes back
On 20 September 2026 a plain “Salomon” search on Myntra showed another brand’s goods. A result under a search is not a Salomon listing until the brand line says so.
Match the model code
Salomon’s own page addresses carry a model code — li5208 for the X Ultra 360 Mid GORE-TEX, lg9215 for the Speedcross 6 GORE-TEX. Ask the seller for it and compare the shoe against the brand’s French or American page.
Turn the box over
The Indian declaration must show MRP inclusive of taxes, country of origin and the manufacturer or importer. It tells you who answers for the pair when the brand itself names no one.
On the court record, a search of Indian judgments for Salomon S.A.S showed nothing, while the same search for adidas AG showed 196, headed by suits adidas itself brought. So no decided Indian matter naming the French company was found. That is a statement about the name searched, and nobody has ruled on anything beyond it.
For the other outdoor and running names on this site, the Asics audit covers another running-shoe brand, and the Columbia and Decathlon audits cover outdoor clothing and gear.
Common questions
Is Salomon a French brand?
Yes. Salomon S.A.S is a French company, founded in the Alps in 1947, and its Indian trade marks are held in its own name at a Haute-Savoie address. It is a subsidiary of Amer Sports, Inc., a Cayman Islands company listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
Does ANTA own Salomon?
No filing read says so. ANTA Sports held 42.5% of Amer Sports, Salomon’s parent, on a filing dated 6 December 2024, and Amer Sports calls ANTA its largest shareholder. That is a minority stake, and no document read establishes control.
Who sells Salomon in India?
Neither Salomon nor Amer Sports publishes an Indian seller, distributor or subsidiary. The brand launched here through Planet Sports in 2011, and Brandman Retail said in June 2026 that it plans to add Salomon; neither tells you who sells it today.
Is Salomon on Myntra?
Not on 20 September 2026, when its brand listing showed none while Columbia showed 2,422 the same day. That is one marketplace on one day, not a statement about India as a whole.
Are Salomon shoes made in India?
Nothing read establishes it. Amer Sports’ supplier list names three Indian factories, one in the Outdoor category, but the list gives categories and never brands.
Is Salomon’s GORE-TEX waterproofing tested independently?
Neither company’s pages say so. Salomon’s pages give no figure or standard for the claim, and Gore’s own pages describe testing by Gore in a controlled rain room, with no published hydrostatic head or breathability rating.

What is good about Salomon is the French product page. It gives heel and forefoot stack, drop and weight in millimetres and grams on every shoe read, which is more than many running brands print anywhere. The trade mark in India sits with the French company itself, not with a local licensee, and the parent files a full supplier list that names three Indian factories.
The gaps are in what a buyer in India needs next. Not one of seven pages says what size a weight refers to, the American pages leave out stack height on two of the same shoes, and neither Salomon nor Gore publishes a hydrostatic-head figure for the GORE-TEX claim. And in India there is a 2011 launch, a 2026 plan, 0 listings on Myntra and no seller named by the brand — so whoever sells you a pair, the box and the model code are the checks you have.
A brand that prints its foam to the millimetre in France and names nobody who sells it in India.
