Xylys Brand Audit: Swiss-Made at Indian Prices

Xylys sells genuinely Swiss-made watches for less than Tissot, under a name nobody recognises. What it costs in India, who owns it, and whether that trade is worth making.

Xylys is Titan’s premium watch brand — an Indian brand, launched in 2006, selling Swiss-made watches at roughly ₹19,000 to ₹76,000. It is the only brand in the Titan stable that carries the Swiss Made label, which is a legally defined term rather than a marketing flourish. It is also the quietest brand Titan owns: no standalone website, no separate mention in the company’s quarterly reporting, and almost no public profile despite two decades on sale.

The short answer

Xylys is genuinely Swiss-made and genuinely cheaper. Its Swiss automatic sells at ₹58,500 against ₹1,08,500 for a Tissot Seastar, both checked in August 2026. What you give up is recognition and resale. Nobody will know the name, and the resale value in India is close to nothing.

How it started

Titan launched Xylys in 2006 with the tagline “Different by Design”. The commercial logic was straightforward. Titan had the mass market locked up through its own brand and Sonata, and the youth market through Fastrack, but it had nothing to sell an Indian professional who had started earning enough to consider a Swiss watch and would otherwise walk past Titan entirely.

Rather than stretch the Titan name upward — which rarely works, because a brand known for ₹2,000 watches struggles to charge ₹60,000 — the company created a separate name with no visible Titan branding on the dial and had the watches built in Switzerland.

Two decades on, the brand still exists and still sells. What it has not done is become famous. Xylys has never had the marketing spend of Fastrack or the distribution of Sonata, and the result is a brand that most Indian buyers in its own price band have never heard of.

Why Titan created a second name
  1. Mass market coveredTitan and Sonata below, Fastrack for the youth market
  2. Nothing for the professionalAn earner considering a Swiss watch walked past Titan entirely
  3. Stretching Titan upwardA ₹2,000 watch brand struggles to charge ₹60,000
  4. Xylys, 2006A separate name, no Titan branding, built in Switzerland

Xylys exists to reach a buyer the Titan name could not reach.

What they actually make

The current catalogue on titan.co.in runs to 119 products: 102 quartz watches and 17 automatics. Materials are properly specified for the price — 316L surgical-grade stainless steel cases and sapphire crystal glass, which is scratch-resistant in a way the mineral glass on cheaper watches is not.

The important claim is the Swiss Made label, and it is worth being precise about what that means, because it is one of the most misunderstood terms in watch retail.

What Swiss Made requires since 1 January 2017
  • The watchAt least 60% of the manufacturing cost incurred in Switzerland
  • The movementIts own 60% Swiss cost threshold, with half the component value Swiss
  • The designTechnical development must happen in Switzerland

All three conditions must be met for the label to apply.

That is a real, auditable standard, and it was deliberately tightened in 2017 — the old rule applied the 60% test only to the movement, which allowed a Swiss movement in an entirely foreign watch to carry the label. Titan’s own retailer, Helios, states that Xylys timepieces “are manufactured in Switzerland”.

What Titan does not disclose is which Swiss movement suppliers it uses. No calibre supplier is named on the brand page, the product listings or the retailer pages, so anyone telling you a specific Xylys runs an ETA or a Sellita calibre is guessing unless they have opened the watch.

One structural point about the brand’s standing inside Titan: Xylys is not broken out in the company’s quarterly earnings presentations, which report watches and wearables as a segment and name Titan, Fastrack and Sonata individually. And the brand has no website of its own — xylys.com currently resolves to a domain marketplace listing the name for sale, and the brand lives entirely as a section of titan.co.in.

What Xylys costs in India

Xylys is sold in India, so there is no import duty story here — Titan brings the watches in as a manufacturer and prices them domestically. The useful comparison is against the Swiss brands an Indian buyer would actually cross-shop at the same money.

All prices checked August 2026 on the brands’ own India sites.

Watch Type India price
Xylys Swiss Quartz, grey dial Quartz ₹29,200
Xylys Automatic Analog, silver dial Automatic ₹58,500
Xylys Belvedere Automatic, blue dial Automatic ₹75,900
Tissot Ballade 40mm Quartz ₹39,500
Tissot Seastar 2000 44mm Automatic ₹1,08,500

On paper Xylys wins the comparison. A Swiss-made automatic at ₹58,500 undercuts anything Tissot sells with an automatic movement, and the Xylys quartz range starts well below Tissot’s cheapest watch. If the Swiss Made label is what you are buying, Xylys delivers it for less money than the Swiss brands do.

Note a source conflict worth knowing about. Helios, Titan’s own watch retail chain, describes the Xylys range as “₹10,000 to ₹43,000”, while titan.co.in currently shows the range running to ₹75,900. The titan.co.in figures are the live catalogue and are used throughout this audit; the Helios range appears to be out of date.

Discounting is moderate — roughly 10% to 40% off across the range, far milder than Fastrack’s permanent two-thirds markdowns, though it does mean the MRP is again not the price you pay.

A Tissot or a Longines is recognised at a meeting; a Xylys is not.

Who Xylys is actually for

Xylys is for the buyer who wants the object rather than the badge. If you want a Swiss-made automatic with a sapphire crystal and a 316L steel case, and you genuinely do not care whether anyone recognises the name on the dial, Xylys gives you more watch per rupee than the entry-level Swiss brands. At ₹58,500 that is a defensible purchase.

It also suits someone buying a first serious watch who wants to avoid the trap of spending ₹80,000 on an entry-level model from a famous house purely for the logo.

Skip Xylys if the name matters to you, and be honest with yourself about whether it does. Skip it if you expect to resell — Xylys has effectively no secondary market in India, while Swiss brands with recognition retain something. And skip it if you want the brand to still be actively supported and marketed in ten years, because the absence of a standalone site, of separate financial reporting and of any visible marketing spend are not signs of a brand Titan is investing in.

Reputation and controversies

Xylys has no major documented controversies as of August 2026. No regulatory action, product recall, advertising adjudication, labour issue or pattern of consumer complaints against the brand could be sourced.

The one thing that deserves scrutiny is the Swiss Made claim itself, because that is exactly the kind of label brands stretch. Here the claim holds up: Swiss Made is legally defined, the 2017 revision tightened it substantially, and Titan’s own retail arm states the watches are manufactured in Switzerland. What buyers should not conclude from the label is that Xylys is a Swiss brand. It is an Indian brand, created in Bengaluru in 2006, whose watches are made to a Swiss standard — and that distinction is the sort of thing brand marketing in this category tends to leave comfortably vague.

Parent-company controversies do not touch this brand. Titan’s documented issues — the withdrawn Tanishq advertisement of October 2020 and the 2022 SEBI penalty on eight designated employees — involved neither Xylys nor the watch business.

Buying it in India

Counterfeit risk is low, and for an unusual reason: counterfeiters copy recognisable brands, and Xylys is not recognisable enough to be worth faking.

Check 01

Go to a Helios store first

It carries the competing Swiss brands on the same floor, which is the only way to make the comparison this brand needs you to make.

Check 02

Otherwise use titan.co.in or Titan World

Those are the only other official channels. There is no standalone Xylys website to buy from.

Check 03

Ask how old the stock is

The greater practical risk is a grey-market or old-stock unit sold as current, given how long some Xylys references have been in the catalogue.

Check 04

See the warranty card stamped

Get it stamped at the counter before you leave, not posted to you afterwards.

Check 05

Inspect the case back and the crystal

On a new watch the case back and the sapphire crystal should both be unmarked.

Buying Xylys abroad is not possible in any meaningful way — despite being Swiss-made, it is sold as an Indian-market brand and has no overseas retail presence to speak of.

Common questions

Is Xylys a Swiss brand?

No. Xylys is an Indian brand, launched by Titan Company in Bengaluru in 2006. Its watches are made in Switzerland and carry the Swiss Made label, which is a legal standard about where a watch is manufactured, not about who owns the brand.

Is Xylys owned by Titan?

Yes. Xylys is a Titan Company brand, so it sits in the same Tata group portfolio as Titan, Sonata, Fastrack and Tanishq. Unlike those brands, Xylys is not reported separately in Titan’s quarterly earnings presentations.

What does Swiss Made actually mean?

Since 1 January 2017, at least 60% of the manufacturing cost of the whole watch must be incurred in Switzerland, the movement must meet its own 60% Swiss cost threshold, and technical development must happen in Switzerland. Before 2017 the test applied only to the movement.

Is Xylys better value than Tissot?

On specification, yes. A Xylys Swiss automatic sells at ₹58,500 against ₹1,08,500 for a Tissot Seastar automatic, both in August 2026. On recognition and resale, Tissot wins comfortably. Which matters more depends on whether you buy watches for yourself or for other people.

Do Xylys watches hold their value?

No. There is effectively no secondary market for Xylys in India, so assume the resale value is close to nothing. If you want a watch that returns some of its price, buy a recognised Swiss brand or a pre-owned one.

The FA take

If you want a Swiss-made automatic and genuinely do not care what is written on the dial, Xylys is the cheapest honest way to get one — for everyone else, the money is better spent on a brand that will still be here.
