Doctor Extra Soft is an Indian budget footwear brand selling cushioned slippers, sandals and shoes, mostly between ₹299 and ₹1,299, largely through marketplaces. It is owned by SS Family Footwear Pvt Ltd of Bhiwandi, Maharashtra. The brand name contains the word Doctor, its products are named Orthopedic, and one line is sold as Diabetic-Friendly. It publishes no medical certification for any of that, and the gap between the claim and the evidence is what this audit is about.
Doctor Extra Soft is a budget footwear brand, not a medical one. SS Family Footwear Pvt Ltd of Bhiwandi has sold cushioned slippers and shoes under the name since 2013, mostly at ₹299 to ₹1,299. It calls itself a Doctor Trusted Brand, puts Orthopedic in the name of seven models and sells a Diabetic-Friendly sandal, yet publishes no certification, no named clinician and no clinical study. Buy it for comfort at the price, not as medical footwear.

How it started
Sauban Thakur and Shehzad Kapadia founded the brand in 2013 and built it out of Bhiwandi, the textile and manufacturing town outside Mumbai. Both the head office and the manufacturing are there.
The commercial insight was sharp and worked. Indian buyers wanted soft, cushioned everyday footwear and did not want to pay much for it, and the marketplaces were the fastest route to them. The brand says it has gathered more than five lakh marketplace reviews, which for a twelve-year-old budget label is real scale.
The naming was the other half of the strategy. Calling a footwear company Doctor Extra Soft borrows medical authority without ever making a specific medical claim about a specific product. That decision explains most of the brand’s success and all of its problems.

- ScaleMore than five lakh marketplace reviews, on the brand’s own count
The chain shows how a twelve-year-old budget label reached that size.
What they actually make
Cushioned everyday footwear. Flip flops, sliders, sandals, casual shoes, running shoes and socks, built around memory foam and soft moulded footbeds.
The product naming does a great deal of work. Models D-01, D-03, D-04, D-05, D-15, A-2 and A-3 carry Orthopedic in their titles. The A-3 sandal is described as Diabetic-Friendly. Anti-skid appears on several. Memory foam is everywhere.
Manufacturing is Indian, in Bhiwandi, so nothing here carries import duty. For soft cushioned slippers at ₹299 to ₹800, the value is genuine and the comfort is real. Nothing in this audit disputes that. The question is only what the medical vocabulary on the label is supposed to mean.
The claims, and what backs them
Here is every health-adjacent claim the brand makes about itself, set against what it publishes to support it.
- “India’s #1 Ortho Footwear Brand”No certification, named clinician or regulatory approval published
- “Doctor Trusted Brand”No doctor named, no endorsement, no clinical study cited on the About page
- Orthopedic in seven model namesA product name only. No orthopaedic standard or assessment stated
- Diabetic-Friendly A-3 sandalNo certification or clinical basis stated anywhere on the site
Every claim sits on the brand’s own pages. None of them is backed there.
To be fair to the company: none of this is necessarily unlawful, and soft cushioned footwear can be genuinely comfortable for tired feet.
Comfort and medical suitability are different things, and the vocabulary here blurs them.

| Product | MRP | Selling price |
|---|---|---|
| D-01 men’s flip flops (Orthopedic) | ₹799 | ₹299 |
| 301 men’s cushioned ankle socks | ₹1,299 | ₹499 |
| D-1001 women’s running shoes (memory foam) | ₹1,199 | ₹749 |
| 609 women’s flip flops | ₹1,999 | ₹1,099 |
| A-2 men’s footwear (Orthopedic) | ₹1,999 | ₹1,299 |
The MRP is not a price anyone pays. Judge the selling price on its own and ignore the crossed-out number.
At ₹299 to ₹800 for a cushioned slipper made in India, this is honest value on comfort alone. There is no import duty in the price and no realistic imported competitor at this level.
Who Doctor Extra Soft is actually for
Anyone who wants soft, cushioned everyday footwear cheaply — house slippers, hostel and office floaters, something forgiving for long days standing. On that basis it is good value and the reviews reflect real satisfaction.
It also suits people who simply find hard-soled budget Indian footwear uncomfortable and want more cushioning without spending more.
Do not buy it as medical footwear. If you have diabetes, peripheral neuropathy, plantar fasciitis or a diagnosed foot problem, the word on the box is not a substitute for a professional assessment — and for diabetic feet in particular, the wrong footwear causes real harm. Skip it too if you want durability; memory foam at this price compresses and the cushioning fades within months.
Reputation and controversies
No regulatory action, product recall, advertising adjudication or pattern of consumer commission orders against Doctor Extra Soft or SS Family Footwear Pvt Ltd could be sourced as of August 2026.
The substantive criticism is the one set out above and it is about disclosure, not conduct. A brand carrying Doctor in its name, naming products Orthopedic and selling a Diabetic-Friendly sandal has taken on a duty to explain what backs those words. Nothing on its own site does.
Buying it in India
Counterfeit and lookalike risk is meaningful, and the reason is structural: the brand name is descriptive rather than distinctive, the products are cheap moulded footwear, and marketplace listings are easy to imitate. That combination makes near-identical copies simple to sell. No independent report of large-scale counterfeiting of this brand could be sourced, so treat it as a category risk rather than a documented incident.
Buy through the brand’s own channels
Order from doctorextrasoft.com or the brand’s official storefronts on the major marketplaces.
Check the seller, not just the listing
Confirm you are buying from the brand rather than a third-party seller before you order.
Be sceptical of an unusually cheap listing
The discount is already heavy. A price well under the brand’s own selling price is a warning.
Do not source it abroad
There is no case for buying this brand overseas. It is made in India for the Indian market.
Common questions
Is Doctor Extra Soft actually recommended by doctors?
The brand describes itself as a “Doctor Trusted Brand” but names no doctor, publishes no endorsement and cites no clinical study on its About page. Treat the phrase as marketing. If you need footwear for a medical reason, ask your own doctor or a podiatrist.
Are Doctor Extra Soft slippers good for diabetic feet?
The brand sells an A-3 sandal described as Diabetic-Friendly, but states no certification or clinical basis for it. Diabetic foot care is a medical matter and ill-fitting footwear can cause serious harm, so get advice from your doctor or a podiatrist rather than relying on a product label.
Who owns Doctor Extra Soft?
SS Family Footwear Pvt Ltd, a privately held Indian company based in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra. The brand was founded in 2013 by Sauban Thakur and Shehzad Kapadia, and manufacturing is in Bhiwandi.
Why is Doctor Extra Soft so cheap?
It is made in India, so there is no import duty, and it uses moulded foam construction that is inexpensive at scale. The MRPs are also set well above the intended selling price — discounts of 35% to 63% run permanently, so the crossed-out figure is not a real price.
How long does Doctor Extra Soft footwear last?
Expect months rather than years. Memory foam at this price compresses with use and the cushioning that makes it appealing fades. At ₹299 to ₹800 that may still be reasonable value, but do not expect it to hold up like a structured shoe.
