Lakhani Brand Audit: Four Companies, One Name

Four separate companies sell footwear under the Lakhani name, and only one of them makes the shoes on lakhanifootwear.com. What that company files, what it claims, and what the brand actually costs in India.

Lakhani is one of India’s older mass-market footwear names — hawai chappals, PU sandals, canvas and sports shoes, priced from ₹95 to ₹3,199. It is also not one company. At least four separate businesses trade on the name, one of them is in liquidation, and no public record we could reach says who holds the trademark. What follows is what the paperwork settles, and what it does not.

The short answer

The shoes sold on lakhanifootwear.com are made by Lakhani Footwear Pvt Ltd at Haridwar and packed at Faridabad — the Legal Metrology declaration says so. That company filed ₹65.11 crore of revenue for FY2024, down 35% in a year, while claiming a capacity of 55.5 million pairs. The chappals are cheap and genuinely Indian; the corporate story around them is not.

How it started

Both sides of the business date themselves to 1966, and they credit different men. An IndiaMART page for Lakhani Rubber Works says K.C. Lakhani started it. A YourStory profile of the other arm credits Parmeshwar Dayal Lakhani. Neither claim has a company filing behind it.

The register tells a later story. The first Faridabad company is Lakbros Shoe Company Pvt Ltd, incorporated on 28 December 1981 and renamed Lakhani India Limited in September 1994. Business Standard records it as promoted by K C Lakhani, P D Lakhani and J C Arora together — the men who now head separate companies began on one board.

One shell, three names, one ending
  1. Lakhani Rubber WorksOrigin claimed for 1966; no company of that name on the register
  2. Lakbros Shoe Company Pvt LtdIncorporated 28 December 1981 at Faridabad
  3. Lakhani India LimitedRenamed September 1994; listed on the BSE as 531085
  4. Under liquidationNo accounts since FY2011; ₹236.34 crore of open charges

That is the branch that failed. Ten months after Lakbros, K.C. Lakhani registered a second company — Lakhani Footwear Private Limited, 12 October 1982 — at plot 130 on the same industrial row. Lakhani India sits at 131, next door. Only one of the two still files accounts.

What they actually make

Lakhani Footwear Pvt Ltd runs lakhanifootwear.com, and the Legal Metrology declaration on its product pages is the strongest evidence here. It names the manufacturer as Lakhani Footwear Pvt Ltd at Ranipur, Haridwar, and the packer as the same company at Plot 129-130, Sector 24, Faridabad. Country of origin: India.

Two things follow. The company makes its own shoes rather than buying them in — manufacturer and packer are one entity, unusual in Indian mass footwear, where the marketer is routinely a different firm from the maker. And the shoes are Indian, so no import duty inflates the price.

The catalogue runs to roughly 700 products: hawai chappals, a PU series, canvas shoes under the Touch labels, and a large sports and outdoor range. The company claims four plants — Faridabad, Dhar, Haridwar and Noida — though its About page names three while still saying four. Only Haridwar is corroborated by anything beyond marketing copy.

The capacity claim against the filed accounts

The About page calls the company the largest producer of sports shoes and beach slippers, with a capacity of 55.5 million pairs per year. Set that beside its filing: operating revenue of ₹65.11 crore for FY2024, down 35% year on year, with 102 employees at 31 March 2024.

A company claiming 55.5 million pairs a year filed ₹65.11 crore of revenue — about ₹12 a pair, for a chappal that retails at ₹95.

Both numbers cannot describe the same business. The capacity figure is either a legacy group-wide number from before the business shrank, or a nameplate rating unrelated to output. We print it as a claim, beside the filing.

Worth knowing

We could not establish who owns the registered LAKHANI trademark for footwear. The one class-25 record we found names an individual, Dasu Ram of N.I.T. Faridabad, rather than any company above — and it is internally inconsistent, giving a 1975 filing date against an application number from the mid-1990s series, so we print neither. The register did not yield a clear owner for the mark, so this audit names none. On a name with this many claimants, an unsettled trademark position is itself the finding.

What Lakhani costs in India

Every price below was read on the brand’s own catalogue on 22 August 2026. Each is a single figure marked inclusive of all taxes, with no struck-through MRP and no discount anywhere.

Line Products listed Catalogue MRP
Hawai chappals 122 ₹95 – ₹163
PU series 101 ₹149 – ₹1,249
Canvas 97 ₹399 – ₹549
Sports and outdoor 383 ₹749 – ₹3,199

On price this is a real mass-market player. The hawai at ₹95 undercuts everything we have costed, including Relaxo’s Bahamas flip-flops. The canvas undercuts Bata, whose cheapest canvas slip-on lists at ₹849, and the sports line lands squarely on Sparx at ₹1,299 to ₹3,749.

What we cannot give you is a real selling price. The site does not transact, so these are catalogue MRPs and nothing more. For a company saying it supplies over 350 wholesalers and retailers, publishing no price anyone can actually pay is fair to criticise.

Who Lakhani is actually for

This brand fits the buyer spending ₹100 to ₹600 on footwear that will be worn hard and replaced. At that level the hawai and canvas are honest value, made in India, priced below almost every organised competitor.

Skip it if you want an enforceable warranty, a returns window, or the ability to buy online from the brand — with no brand e-commerce, a shop that will exchange a defective pair is your only protection. Skip it too if consistency matters across repeat purchases, because the name on the box may come from a different company each time. For a firmer balance sheet behind the same budget position, look at Campus or Liberty.

Reputation and controversies

There is no consumer scandal on this record. We found no product recall, no consumer commission order, no labour or environmental finding, and no regulatory action against any Lakhani footwear entity. The trouble is financial.

Lakhani India Limited is under liquidation. Its last AGM was on 27 December 2011, it has filed no accounts since FY2011, and its BSE scrip shows as not traded. It carries ₹236.34 crore of open charges, ₹77.19 crore of it held by International Asset Reconstruction Company — debt reaches an asset reconstruction company only after the original lender writes it off and sells it on.

The surviving arm is not comfortable either. Lakhani Footwear Pvt Ltd carries ₹92.9 crore of open charges against ₹65.11 crore of revenue. A related company, Lakhani Footwear and Accessories Pvt Ltd, was struck off after last filing for FY2009.

Worth knowing

Two litigation leads exist that we could not follow: a Debts Recovery Tribunal matter, IARC against Lakhani India and others, and a 2015 case involving Lakhani Rubber Udyog. We have the parties but not the judgments, so nothing from either appears here. We found no IBBI record for the liquidation, so we cannot say on what basis it runs. And despite four live users of one name, no trademark suit or family dispute surfaced — though not finding one is not proof there is none.

Buying it in India

Adjust your expectations of the website first. Every product page carries a price and then says the article is not available for purchase, offering a store visit, an enquiry or a wishlist instead. The footer still reads 2019. It is a catalogue, not a shop, so you will be buying this brand in a physical store. The Lakhani catalogue page here lists what is in circulation.

Four businesses, one name on the box
  • Lakhani Footwear Pvt LtdFaridabad, 1982 — makes the shoes sold on lakhanifootwear.com
  • Lakhani India LtdFaridabad, 1981 — listed, under liquidation, nothing filed since FY2011
  • Lakhani Infinity FootcareNew Delhi, 2013 — a separate company, ₹499 to ₹1,499 by its own account
  • “Lakhani Aayushman”Faridabad showroom, May 2026 — opened by SONDERA; no stated link to the above

Different companies, different factories, different quality control.

Counterfeit risk is low, and the economics explain why: at ₹95 a chappal, there is no margin in faking it. We found no seizure, raid or customs action involving fake Lakhani footwear. The brand publishes no authentication guide, hologram scheme or QR check, so we will not invent physical tells.

Check 01

Read the box, not the logo

Indian law requires the manufacturer’s or packer’s name and address on the package. If it reads Lakhani Footwear Pvt Ltd with the Haridwar or Sector 24, Faridabad address, it is the company audited here.

Check 02

Any other name is a different business

A different entity on that declaration does not mean a fake. It means a legitimate but separate company using the same name, with its own factory and standards.

Check 03

Use the website as a price reference only

It will not sell you anything and has not been redated since 2019. Check what a model should cost there before you walk into a shop.

Check 04

Watch the discount arithmetic

Hawai lists at ₹95 to ₹163 and canvas at ₹399 to ₹549. A big percentage off an inflated sticker on these lines means the sticker was inflated.

Common questions

Is Lakhani an Indian brand?

Yes. The Legal Metrology declaration on lakhanifootwear.com names Lakhani Footwear Pvt Ltd as manufacturer at Haridwar and packer at Faridabad, country of origin India. The business has been Faridabad-based since 1981.

Who owns Lakhani?

The shoes are made by Lakhani Footwear Pvt Ltd, incorporated 12 October 1982 and chaired by K.C. Lakhani. Who owns the registered LAKHANI trademark is a separate question, and no public record we could reach answers it.

Is Lakhani India Limited the same as Lakhani Footwear?

No. They are two companies registered next door to each other on Sector 24, Faridabad. Lakhani India Ltd is under liquidation with no accounts since FY2011; Lakhani Footwear Pvt Ltd is active and makes today’s shoes.

Can I buy Lakhani shoes from the official website?

No. Every product page states that the article is not available for purchase and offers a store visit, an enquiry or a wishlist instead. The prices shown are catalogue MRPs, so you buy this brand in a shop.

Are Lakhani shoes worth it?

At ₹95 to ₹549 for hawai and canvas, yes — that is the cheapest organised footwear we have costed. Above ₹1,500 the case weakens, because rivals at that price publish selling prices, warranties and stronger accounts.

The FA take

Buy the cheap end and ignore the story. Hawai at ₹95 and canvas at ₹399 are the best value we have costed in Indian footwear, made in India by the company named on the box, with no import duty inflating the ticket.

Everything above that deserves scepticism. A maker claiming 55.5 million pairs a year filed ₹65.11 crore, shrank 35% in one year and carries ₹92.9 crore of open charges. Its neighbour is in liquidation with ₹236.34 crore outstanding, and four businesses sell under the name. Against Sparx or Campus above ₹1,500, that is a weak hand.

A ₹95 chappal worth buying, from a ₹65 crore company telling a ₹1,000 crore story.
