NEXT Brand Audit: UK Label, Bangladesh-Made, Two Indian Routes

NEXT belongs to London-listed NEXT PLC and reaches India through a Myntra Jabong licence and its UK website. Prices, origins and returns on each route.
NEXT brand audit by FashionAudit: NEXT logo and the headline “UK Label, Bangladesh-Made, Two Indian Routes” over a smart-casual outfit of chinos

NEXT is the clothing label of NEXT PLC, an England and Wales company, number 04412362, register status “Active”, registered at “Desford Road, Enderby, Leicester, LE19 4AT” and listed in London under the ticker NXT. On the Indian register mirror the class 25 clothing mark, application 1045075, reads “Registered” in the name of “Next Retail Private” at that address.

In India the label arrives by two routes at once: Myntra Jabong India Private Limited holds licensed rights to distribute the range and to appoint the franchisees who run the shops, while nextdirect.com/in/en is a rupee-priced sale by Next Retail Limited of Leicester under English law. On 26 September 2026, 20 NEXT records on a large Indian fashion marketplace named “Next Holding Wholesale Private Limited” as importer on 18 and Bangladesh as origin on 16.

The short answer

NEXT belongs to NEXT PLC, England and Wales company 04412362, listed in London under the ticker NXT, and no filing read shows the name ever being sold. In India, Myntra Jabong India Private Limited holds the distribution licence and appoints the store franchisees, while nextdirect.com/in/en is a sale by Next Retail Limited of Leicester under English law. On 26 September 2026 one dress cost £75 in Britain and INR 11,518 on the India-facing site, and 40 marketplace listings paid a median ₹2,564 against a ₹4,799 MRP. When a direct order goes wrong, the parcel goes back to Pontefract at the buyer’s cost inside 28 days; in the shops, the licensee’s franchise partners are in the chain.

Who owns NEXT

The word is ordinary, so the company comes first. The United Kingdom companies register reports 8,978 matches for “next plc”, two of them the company or its predecessor, and the Indian trade-mark mirror reports 8,965 matches for the word. NEXT PLC itself is company 04412362, incorporated 9 April 2002, SIC 70100 (“Activities of head offices”), at Desford Road, Enderby. Its selling company is NEXT RETAIL LIMITED, number 04521150, at the same address, status “Active”, incorporated 29 August 2002, SIC 47710 “Retail sale of clothing in specialised stores” with 47721, 47789 and 47910 beside it.

Two near-misses in the group share the address: NEXT GROUP PLC, number 11118708, incorporated 19 December 2017, status “Active”, and NEXT HOLDINGS LIMITED, number 00035161, incorporated 11 November 1891, status “Active”. Next 15 Group plc is a separate listed company. NEXT PLC has not been taken over; what moved was the wrapper, and no filing read shows the brand passing to anybody else.

United Kingdom companies register, company 00035161; read 26 September 2026. Today’s 04412362, previously NEXT GROUP PLC, took the NEXT PLC name in 2002; the 1891 company became a holding company.

What NEXT publishes is group revenue. For the year ended 31 January 2026 the results announcement gives “Total Group sales £7,004m” and “NEXT Group profit before tax £1,158m” on the 52-week comparable basis, and statutory revenue “£6,901m” with statutory profit before tax “£1,193m” over 53 weeks, not blended here. Overseas web sales are one line, “Online (International)”, at “£1,297m”, up “+39.5%”, naming no country. The annual report carries no sentence containing “India” or “Myntra” in the sections read, and no Indian company of the group is named in them.

Register-mirror records, read 26 September 2026; the mirror shortens long proprietor names. Agent on the class 25 record: Remfry & Sagar, Gurgaon.

Class 25, “Articles Of Clothing, Footwears, Headgear”, covers the trade carried on here; class 16 is paper and stationery, and the class 20 goods wording was not read. The proprietor comes back as “Next Retail Private” on one record and “Next Retail Private Limited” on another, two strings, not one company confirmed twice. A row proves a word, a class, an applicant and where the application stopped; trading rights and sellers are not in it, and the mirror prints no registered user against application 1045075 while a licensed Indian distributor sits under the next heading.

How NEXT reaches India

The licensed route runs through a company with no NEXT in its name. Trade reports describe a “strategic partnership with Myntra Jabong India Pvt. Ltd. (MJIPL), the wholesale entity of Myntra”, under which that company holds “licensed rights to distribute the Next product range and to appoint franchisees for opening and operating Next stores”. The start is dated 22 March 2024 in one report and 4 April 2024 in another.

On the register mirror it is MYNTRA JABONG INDIA PRIVATE LIMITED, CIN U74900KA2015FTC079383, status “Active”, which a second mirror renders “Active Foreign Private Limited Company”, incorporated 20 March 2015 at Embassy Tech Village, Bengaluru 560103, paid-up capital ₹1,44,08,692, NIC 749, “Business activities n.e.c.”, sub-category “Subsidiary of company incorporated outside India”, holding company Fk Myntra Holdings Private Limited. A distribution licence with a franchising permission is neither a shareholding nor a joint venture, and nothing read shows NEXT PLC holding equity there.

The direct route is British throughout. The footer of nextdirect.com/in/en reads “© 2026 Next Retail Ltd. All rights reserved.” The terms served there name “Next Retail Limited” at “Desford Road, Enderby, Leicester LE19 4AT, England”, state that “This website is operated by, and the goods are supplied by Next Retail Limited”, and give “Company Registration Number: 04412362”, NEXT PLC’s number. The agreement is “based upon English law”, with “the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts based in England”. As read on 26 September 2026 the page at the India address is headed “Terms and Conditions for Hong Kong” and carries “HK$45 will be deducted from your refund for using this service”; that is printed as a reading only.

NEXT on the shelf

The 6,635-listing brand facet on a large Indian fashion marketplace was read on 26 September 2026. Across 40 listings taken in listing order, the median MRP field read ₹4,799 and the median selling price ₹2,564 or 53.4% of MRP, with 36 of the 40 reduced. The leading article types were jackets 10, jeans 9, co-ords 6, shackets 4 and blazers 3.

Twenty of those records carry four declaration fields plus a seller of record. The Indian party sits in the importer line, which reads “Next Holding Wholesale Private Limited”, at an address beginning “915, Unit N…” as the field truncates it, on 18 of the 20, with a second spelling of the same name on one more. Seller of record is Supercom Net on 18 and VALUEWIZ MARKETING PRIVATE LIMITED on 2. Country of origin read Bangladesh 16, Myanmar 2, China 1 and Cambodia 1.

The licence reports name Myntra Jabong India Private Limited as the Indian distributor; the importer field on these packs names “Next Holding Wholesale Private Limited”.

Where NEXT is made

The declared-manufacturer field on those 20 records carries names and factory addresses as printed: Consumer Knitex Ltd (Unit 2), Baghan, Trishal, Mymensingh on two, Fakir Eco-Knitwears Ltd, Kayempur, Fatullah, Narayanganj on two, Libas Textiles Ltd, Nishchintapur, Mouchak, Kaliakoir, Gazipur on one, and five more. A name there declares that a party has been made answerable under Indian packaging rules; it does not establish that the garment in any bag came off that floor.

The owner’s report names India nowhere as a market and third among sourcing countries. The Corporate Responsibility Report 2026 describes “purchasing both finished products and product components from a diverse global supplier base” and ranks the countries by value.

Corporate Responsibility Report 2026; read 26 September 2026. It also records “2,708 audits completed in 2025/26”.

We expanded our Gender Empowerment Programme from the original pilot in Morocco to now include aspects of our supply chain in Bangladesh and India.

NEXT PLC, half-year results statement to July 2026; read 26 September 2026. It gives total Group sales of £3,540m and profit before tax of £569m.

Bangladesh tops that table and the shelf declares Bangladesh on 16 of 20; no record read declared India. The report lists “AIDER, India” and “SAVE, India” among its partnerships and names Arvind, an Indian company, for menswear’s organic cotton, on the making side rather than the selling side.

Its corporate claims carry numbers, cotton at “90% … through responsible routes” and “99% of finished tanneries we use” with an LWG audit, a tannery certificate rather than a shoe. The product pages carry composition and care only, such as “100% Cotton” with “Machine washable”; no durability claim or third-party certifier appears on the three read, an absence rather than a failing.

The NEXT name on the Indian registers

The word is common on Indian registers. The trade-mark mirror’s 23 records for “next retail” include none belonging to the British retailer, and the marks that cover this clothing are the three in the table above. A buyer’s check is the importer and manufacturer lines on the pack, not a company search on the word.

Returns, warranty and who answers

On the direct route the window is 28 days: “You can return any unworn items (in their original condition) within 28 days of receiving your order”, and past it the policy gives “an eVoucher instead of a refund to your original payment method”. The help pages state “Yes, we don’t offer free returns at the moment. Postage must be paid by the sender and will not be refunded by Next.” The address is “NEXT E3 Returns, Williams Way, South Elmsall, Pontefract WF9 2RP, ENGLAND”; “Stores outside of the UK & Republic of Ireland can not accept returns.” No warranty term of any length was found on the pages read, and no grievance officer, Indian address, CIN or GSTIN appears on them.

The licensed route reverses that geography. Myntra Jabong India Private Limited holds the rights and appoints the franchisees, and the shops are run by “licensed franchise partners”, so an Indian company, an Indian address and Indian consumer law are in the chain.

What NEXT costs in India

Three products carry the same item codes on next.co.uk and nextdirect.com/in/en. Neither India-facing page showed a “was” price or any discount wording; the prices sit side by side with no conversion.

Three UK product pages, two India-facing product pages and the India-facing dresses listing, read 26 September 2026. No duty rate or landed-cost arithmetic is worked here.

The third pair does not stand in the same relation to its British price as the first two; no reason is published on either page, and none is invented here. On top, the India help pages state “Shipping is currently charged at INR 500 per order”, promise delivery “within 6 working days”, and warn of customs or import fees on arrival. The licensed route prices differently, at a median ₹2,564 paid against a ₹4,799 MRP on the marketplace. One shelf on one day and three item-code pairs support no tier and no average. For comparison, see the Westside audit and the Twenty Dresses audit.

Checking a NEXT is genuine

On authenticity both routes are quiet: no authorised-retailer list and no counterfeit guidance for India was found on any page read, so no shortcut tell is printed here.

Check 01

Read the importer line

The importer line read “Next Holding Wholesale Private Limited” on 18 of 20 marketplace records read on 26 September 2026. Compare it with the listing you are buying, and ask the seller about any different name.

Check 02

Match the origin to the declaration

Bangladesh on 16 of 20 records, Myanmar 2, China 1, Cambodia 1; no record read declared India. A factory name in the manufacturer field is a party made answerable, not proof of the floor.

Check 03

Compare the price with the brand’s own site

Item H01-928 was INR 11,518 on nextdirect.com/in/en on 26 September 2026 with no was-price; the marketplace median was 53.4% of MRP. A price far below both deserves a second look.

Check 04

Read the footer before paying

“© 2026 Next Retail Ltd. All rights reserved.” means the seller is Next Retail Limited of Leicester. In a shop, the franchisee is Myntra Jabong India Private Limited’s appointee.

The record in India

No court or tribunal has ruled on any term quoted here or any register entry on this page; nobody has ruled on any of it.

Who NEXT is actually for

NEXT suits a buyer who will read which chain they are in. In the four exclusive shops or a Shoppers Stop corner the franchisee is appointed by Myntra Jabong India Private Limited, and on the marketplace a median ₹2,564 was paid against a ₹4,799 MRP. On nextdirect.com/in/en a dress at INR 11,518 comes with INR 500 shipping, possible customs on arrival and a Pontefract returns address. For a marketplace-owned label, see the Anouk audit.

Is NEXT clothing made in India?

The FA take

The ownership question has a clean answer. One London-listed company holds the name, the class 25 mark here sits at its own Leicester address, and no filing read shows the brand ever being sold. The rename people mistake for a sale is on the register, traceable to 1891.

The buying question has two answers. In one of the four shops or a Shoppers Stop corner the Bengaluru licensee is in the chain, and on the marketplace records an Indian importer is named on 18 of 20. On the brand’s own India-facing website the seller is Next Retail Limited of Leicester under English law, and a return goes back to Pontefract at the buyer’s cost within 28 days. The website route suits a buyer after a specific item code; the shops and the marketplace suit one who wants an Indian counterparty and, on the day read, a lower price.

Check the footer before you pay: a rupee price on nextdirect.com is a sale from Leicester, while the shops and marketplace run through the Indian licensee.
