The word Nykaa names three different things. A shop — India’s largest online beauty retailer. A company — FSN E-Commerce Ventures Limited, its listed parent. And a makeup label — Nykaa Cosmetics, launched in 2015, which the parent’s FY25 annual report calls the “#1 liquid lipstick and #1 nail polish” on the platform. The platform in that ranking is Nykaa’s own shop, which belongs to the same group as the label. This audit looks at who owns Nykaa Cosmetics, who makes it and what it sells for.
Nykaa Cosmetics is the house makeup label of FSN E-Commerce Ventures, the listed company behind Nykaa. Nykaa’s FY26 investor deck puts its gross merchandise value at ₹400 crore-plus — sticker value, not revenue. Its products are made by third-party manufacturers, per the IPO prospectus. Hero products sold 25–40% below MRP on 2 September 2026, in the Budget tier, from ₹123 to ₹849.

How it started
In 2015, three years after FSN E-Commerce Ventures was incorporated, Nykaa put its own name on products for the first time. Nail enamels came first, then lipsticks, kajal sticks and body mists, according to Forbes India’s 2017 profile. The same year, on 19 February 2015, the group incorporated FSN Brands Marketing Private Limited, its owned-brands company. Forbes reported that margins on the house label ran “10-15 percent higher” than on third-party brands.
FSN listed on 10 November 2021, and its prospectus defines FSN Brands Marketing as a subsidiary. The parent is now a ₹10,022 crore revenue company with a ₹204 crore profit for FY26. The FY25 annual report calls Nykaa Cosmetics “India’s trendiest brand”, credits it with ₹350 crore of gross merchandise value, and welcomes Rasha Thadani as its brand ambassador. In FY26 the figure crossed ₹400 crore.
The same deck reports GMV for the group’s other owned brands, on the same basis.
- Dot & Key₹1,790 crore — bought in 2021, 90% held
- Nykaa Cosmetics₹400 crore-plus — built in-house from 2015
- Kay Beauty₹380 crore — the Katrina Kaif joint venture
All three figures are gross merchandise value for FY26, as reported by Nykaa.
Nykaa Q4 FY26 investor presentation; all figures are gross merchandise value.
Every figure above is GMV — the sticker value of goods sold, before returns and before discounts. FSN discloses no revenue for the brand, so this audit prints none. That distinction matters more here than usual, because the discount section below shows 25–40% off is the normal state of this label’s sticker prices.
What they actually make
The catalogue is colour cosmetics: 240 products on the Nykaa brand page on 2 September 2026, across lipstick, nail enamel, kajal, foundation, blush and eyeshadow. Shade depth varies by line. The Matte to Last liquid lipstick lists 22 shades, the So Creme lipstick 35, and the Matte Nail Enamel 31 — while the SKINgenius Dewy foundation, the product that must match Indian skin, lists five.
Who makes it? The IPO prospectus says the owned-brand business sells products “manufactured by third party manufacturers for us”. The maker’s name is printed on the pack; read it in the shop or when the parcel arrives. Contrast our Campus audit, where the brand runs its own factories and says so.
A ₹137 nail enamel in 31 shades and a ₹389 foundation: the entry price is low, and the discount makes it lower.
The performance claims follow the category’s habits. “Transferproof”, “No Transfer”, “Lasts Upto 24 Hours”, “Smudgeproof”, “All Day Matte”, “Breathable” — each appears in a product name, and the pages we read do not cite a wear test or measured figure for them. To the brand’s credit, no page we sampled prints a fake-precise ingredient percentage or an SPF claim; makeup here sells on shade and wear words, nothing more.
Cruelty-free holds up; vegan is self-declared. PETA’s Beauty Without Bunnies directory lists Nykaa’s own brands, Nykaa Cosmetics included, as Animal Test-Free, covering ingredients, finished products and suppliers. That listing covers testing only. The vegan badge on the product pages is the brand’s own claim, with no certifier named, and PETA does not certify the range as vegan. Our cruelty-free finding rests on the PETA directory alone.
What Nykaa Cosmetics costs in India
Every price below is from nykaa.com on 2 September 2026. Across 25 distinct price lines, every single one carried a struck-through MRP and a lower selling price, under an “Upto 60% Off & more” banner. Discounts ran 10–40%, with 35–40% on the highest-volume heroes.
| Product | MRP | Selling, 2 September 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Magic Smudgeproof Kajal, 0.3 g | ₹199 | ₹129 |
| Matte Nail Enamel, 9 ml | ₹229 | ₹137 |
| So Creme! Creamy Matte Lipstick | ₹329 | ₹197–214 |
| All Day Matte Liquid Foundation | ₹649 | ₹389 |
| SKINgenius Dewy Foundation, 30 ml | ₹649 | ₹389 |
| Matte to Last! Liquid Lipstick | ₹749 | ₹449–562 |
| Matte-ilicious Lip Crayon | ₹799 | ₹479 |
| 9-in-1 Multi Texture Eyeshadow Palette | ₹899 | ₹629 |
| X Bridgerton Face & Eye Eyeshadow | ₹999 | ₹849 |
Treat the MRP as a reference price; on 2 September 2026 every line sold below it — the same conclusion our Sparx and Liberty audits reached about footwear stickers. It also means the GMV figures above are measured at sticker values this label rarely charges.
The useful comparison is price per gram or millilitre. The Magic Kajal packs 0.3 g, so its friendly ₹129 tag is ₹430 a gram. Kajal pencils everywhere pack tiny quantities, so this is a category habit rather than a Nykaa invention — but ₹430 a gram against the foundation’s ₹12.97 a millilitre is a 33-fold gap per unit, so the net quantity is worth reading. The Matte to Last liquid lipstick works out to about ₹90 a millilitre on the 5 ml its Nykaa page states; some retail listings describe the same product as 4.5 ml, which would push it towards ₹100. The Matte Nail Enamel, at ₹15.22 a millilitre, is where the value actually sits.

Who Nykaa Cosmetics is actually for
The price tier is Budget. The busiest cluster of heroes — kajal, nail enamels, the So Creme lipstick — sold between ₹123 and ₹250 on 2 September 2026, and nothing in the line sold above ₹849. For a first kajal, a ₹137 nail polish in 31 shades, or a ₹389 foundation, the entry price is genuinely low and the discounting makes it lower.
It suits a buyer choosing on shade and price more than one who wants documentation: the pages cite no wear test, the vegan badge names no certifier, and the maker’s name is printed on the carton. The “#1 liquid lipstick” rank is a rank on Nykaa’s platform; the next section sets out the structure.
Reputation and controversies
The group structure is on the record. Nykaa E-Retail Limited, a 100% subsidiary, runs the marketplace — every Nykaa Cosmetics page we read says “Sold by: Nykaa E Retail”. FSN Brands Marketing Private Limited, another group company, is the owned-brands business. Both roll up into the same listed parent. The FY25 annual report’s “#1 liquid lipstick and #1 nail polish positions on the platform” refers to Nykaa’s own platform, which Nykaa E-Retail runs. No cross-platform rank is disclosed for this brand.
The investor documents disclose that owned brands are a growing share of what the shop sells.
- FY2412.1%
- FY2514.4%
- FY26About 18.6% — ₹2,788 crore of ₹14,954 crore
Roughly one rupee in every five and a half spent on beauty at Nykaa now buys a brand Nykaa owns.
FSN annual report FY25 and Q4 FY26 investor presentation.
Every Nykaa Cosmetics page carries “100% Authentic, directly purchased from Nykaa Cosmetics”; the seller and the brand share a parent. The brand-behind-the-brand question is one our Bata audit raises in reverse, where the famous name and the Indian listed company are different things; here the retailer and the label belong to the same group.
Three points are worth stating precisely. The ₹400 crore-plus figure is GMV at sticker prices, not revenue, and no revenue figure for the brand is on the public record. The disclosed #1 rank is on Nykaa’s own platform. And per its prospectus, third parties manufacture the owned-brand products.
Under the advertiser name Nykaa E-Retail Limited, ASCI’s complaint outcomes list 36 entries as at 2 September 2026.
Most of them concern an influencer post that was not labelled as an advertisement, rather than any claim about a product: posts on Nykaa’s own @mynykaa handle, and “available at Nykaa” posts for brands the shop merely stocks. Six of those, all upheld, landed on @mynykaa inside a single week in December 2025. Two rulings do touch Nykaa’s own goods — a Nykaa Naturals face gel on 16 June 2023 and, closest to this label, the Nykaa Creamy Matte Lipstick on 25 February 2026, where the claim “1 sold every minute” was held to contravene Chapter I of the code.
Each of those decisions turned on one advertisement as it stood when it was heard. None is a standing bar on a form of words, and nobody has ruled on the pages as they read on 2 September 2026. ASCI is the advertising industry’s own self-regulatory body, not a statutory regulator.
Buying it in India
The label is no longer confined to its own shop. For Nykaa’s owned beauty brands as a portfolio, FY26 gross sales split 50% Nykaa’s own site and app, 17% its Superstore wholesale channel and 21% other retail channels, and the annual report counts 237 Nykaa beauty stores plus 38,000-odd offline points of sale carrying House of Nykaa brands. A split for Nykaa Cosmetics alone is not disclosed. Wherever you buy it, run these checks first.
Read the carton for the maker
The manufacturer’s name, address and licence number are printed on the pack. Check the carton when it arrives.
Divide the price by the grams
A ₹129 kajal holding 0.3 g is ₹430 a gram. The net quantity is on the pack and the listing; do the division before you buy.
Never pay MRP
All 25 price lines we checked sold below sticker, most at 25–40% off. If a listing charges full MRP, compare it with the brand’s own page before you buy.
Separate cruelty-free from vegan
The PETA directory backs the animal-test-free claim. The vegan badge is the brand’s own, with no certifier named. They are different claims; check the one you care about.
Treat wear claims as wear words
The pages cite no test method for “upto 24 hours” or “transferproof”. Buy on shade and price, and judge wear on your own skin.
Common questions
Is Nykaa Cosmetics owned by Nykaa?
Yes, entirely and from birth. It launched in 2015 as the house label of FSN E-Commerce Ventures, Nykaa’s listed parent, and has never had another owner. FSN Brands Marketing Private Limited is the group’s owned-brands company.
Who makes Nykaa Cosmetics products?
Third-party manufacturers, in the words of Nykaa’s own IPO prospectus. The maker of your specific product is printed on the pack itself.
Is Nykaa Cosmetics really the #1 liquid lipstick in India?
The disclosed claim is narrower: “#1 liquid lipstick and #1 nail polish positions on the platform”, per the FY25 annual report. That is a rank on Nykaa’s own platform. No India-wide rank is disclosed.
Is Nykaa Cosmetics cruelty-free and vegan?
PETA’s directory lists Nykaa’s own brands, this one included, as Animal Test-Free. The vegan badge is the brand’s own claim with no certifier named; PETA’s listing does not cover vegan formulation.
What is Nykaa Cosmetics’ revenue?
Not disclosed. Nykaa reports the brand only by gross merchandise value — ₹350 crore in FY25 and ₹400 crore-plus in FY26 — which is sticker value before returns and discounts, not revenue.

As cheap makeup, this label earns its shelf. A ₹137 nail enamel in 31 shades, a ₹389 foundation at ₹12.97 a millilitre and a PETA-listed animal-test-free policy is a fair offer, and the product pages skip the fake-precise percentage claims that plague the category — the advertising, not the pack, is where a number got the brand ruled against. Buy it at the 25–40% discount that is effectively its real price.
Read the claims precisely. The “#1 liquid lipstick” rank is a rank on Nykaa’s own platform, the vegan badge names no certifier, the maker’s name is printed on the carton, and the kajal is ₹129 for 0.3 g, which is ₹430 a gram.
Good value in nail enamel and foundation at the usual discount; price the kajal by the gram before you buy.
