Relaxo is India’s largest footwear manufacturer by volume, a listed company based in Bahadurgarh, Haryana, selling slippers, sandals and shoes from around ₹150 upwards. It also owns Sparx, Flite and Bahamas, which most buyers do not realise. The single fact that explains everything about the brand is its manufacturing capacity: 10.5 lakh pairs a day.
Relaxo Footwears Limited makes 10.5 lakh pairs of footwear a day, more than any other Indian maker. It also owns Sparx, Flite and Bahamas, so four names come from one Bahadurgarh company. That scale is why a Bahamas flip flop sells at ₹314.50, and why no import can match it.

How it started
Relaxo Footwears Limited was incorporated on 13 September 1984 and converted to public limited status on 31 March 1993. The Dua family built it in Bahadurgarh, a Haryana town on the Delhi border, and still controls it.
The founding product was the Hawaii slipper — the flat rubber chappal that is the most-worn footwear in the country. It is a brutal business: margins per pair are tiny, the product is close to a commodity, and the only way to make money is to make an enormous number of them.
Relaxo won by doing exactly that, then used the volume to move upmarket through separate brands rather than by charging more for the Relaxo name.
The scale is the whole story
Every other fact about this company follows from one number, and that number is difficult to picture.
- 1984Relaxo Footwears Limited incorporated on 13 September
- 1995-96Capacity of 50,000 pairs a day
- FY 2019A ninth plant added in Rajasthan
- FY 202510.5 lakh pairs a day, over 380 million pairs a year
Bata India, for comparison, publishes an annual capacity of 46.38 million pairs.
That is why a Bahamas flip flop costs ₹314. Nothing imported can be manufactured, shipped, cleared through customs and sold in India at that number, and no smaller Indian maker has the unit economics to try.
What they actually make
Four brands, nine plants, one company. Relaxo covers Hawaii slippers and value footwear, Sparx does sports and casual shoes, Flite does lightweight fashion slippers and sandals, and Bahamas does everyday sliders.
Production runs across eight facilities at Bahadurgarh in Haryana, Bhiwadi in Rajasthan and Haridwar in Uttarakhand, with a ninth Rajasthan plant added by FY 2019. The product mix runs from Hawaii slippers and PVC footwear through canvas shoes to moulded sports styles.
Everything is made in India, so nothing in the range carries import duty. For a category where the entire proposition is price, that is decisive.
What Relaxo costs in India
The clearest way to see the strategy is the price distribution across three of its brands.
| Brand | Products listed | Where the range sits |
|---|---|---|
| Sparx | 825 | Mostly ₹500 to ₹1,500; one product above ₹2,000 |
| Flite | 81 | 57 products at ₹100 to ₹500; 6 at ₹500 to ₹1,000 |
| Bahamas | 38 | 35 of 38 products at ₹100 to ₹500 |
Checked on relaxofootwear.com in August 2026. Representative items: a Bahamas BHG 329 men’s flip flop at ₹314.50, a Flite FL-2072 women’s clog at ₹449.50, and a Sparx SS 817 men’s sandal at ₹1,249.
Read across the three and the design becomes obvious. Bahamas and Flite own the sub-₹500 shelf, Sparx owns ₹500 to ₹1,500, and the Relaxo name itself sits at the bottom on Hawaii slippers.
The company covers every price point below the level at which an import could compete, and stops there deliberately.
Who Relaxo is actually for
Essentially everyone, for the right product. Hawaii slippers, bathroom and house footwear, everyday sliders and cheap sandals — this is the default and there is no sensible reason to pay more.
It suits price-first buying without embarrassment. A ₹314 flip flop from a company making a million pairs a day is not a compromise; it is the most efficient footwear purchase available in India.
Skip it where construction matters. Formal shoes, anything needing structure or real leather, and anything you expect to last several years are not what this company is built for — look at Indian makers working further up the market. And do not read Sparx as a quality step up from Relaxo; it is a different use case from the same lines.
Reputation and controversies
Relaxo has no significant documented controversy as of August 2026. No regulatory action, product recall, advertising adjudication, labour finding or pattern of consumer commission orders against Relaxo Footwears Limited could be sourced.
The fair observation is a structural one about the category rather than the company. Moulded PVC and rubber footwear at this price is close to unrepairable and effectively disposable, and 380 million pairs a year of it is a real material footprint. Relaxo publishes no recycling or take-back programme that could be sourced for this audit. That is true of essentially every mass footwear maker in India, which is the point — nobody in this category has answered it.
Buying it in India
Stay on an official channel
Buy from relaxofootwear.com, a Relaxo store, or the brand’s own storefronts on the major marketplaces. Distribution is close to universal, so there is rarely a reason to use an unfamiliar seller.
Worry about Sparx, not the slippers
Counterfeit risk on the Relaxo brand itself is low, because there is almost no margin in faking a ₹200 slipper. Sparx attracts more copying because the price point is higher.
Read the sole, the weight and the straps
The tells across all four brands are the printing quality on the sole and the weight of the pair. Check the finish where the straps meet the footbed.
Do not hunt for it abroad
There is no case for buying this brand overseas. It is made in India for the Indian price point, and that price point does not exist anywhere else.
Common questions
Is Sparx owned by Relaxo?
Yes. Relaxo Footwears Limited owns Relaxo, Sparx, Flite and Bahamas. All four are made by the same company across its nine Indian plants, and they are positioned for different uses and price points rather than different levels of manufacture.
Who owns Relaxo?
Relaxo Footwears Limited is a standalone Indian company listed on the NSE and BSE, promoted by the Dua family. It was incorporated on 13 September 1984 and became a public limited company on 31 March 1993. It is headquartered in Bahadurgarh, Haryana.
Is Relaxo the biggest footwear company in India?
By manufacturing volume, yes. Its capacity reached 10.5 lakh pairs a day in FY 2025 across nine plants, which annualises to over 380 million pairs. For comparison, Bata India publishes an annual capacity of 46.38 million pairs.
Why is Relaxo footwear so cheap?
Scale and domestic manufacturing. At more than a million pairs a day the cost per pair falls to a level importers cannot match, and there is no customs duty because nothing is imported.
Do Relaxo slippers last?
Months of daily use rather than years. Moulded PVC and rubber footwear at this price wears out and cannot really be repaired. At ₹200 to ₹400 that is a reasonable trade, but do not expect longevity.
