Rimowa is a Cologne luggage maker, best known for its grooved aluminium suitcases, and since a deal announced on 4 October 2016 it has belonged to the LVMH group. LVMH bought 80% of it for €640 million and calls it “the first German Maison of the LVMH Group”.
In India it reaches buyers through Ethos, a listed retailer in the KDDL group, which runs Rimowa boutiques in Mumbai and New Delhi. Rimowa’s own Indian website showed rupee prices on 22 September 2026, including ₹1,68,000 for an aluminium cabin case, while its terms name a German company as seller and limit delivery to Europe.
Rimowa is a German brand owned by LVMH since the 2016 deal, sold in India through boutiques run by Ethos companies. It has no shelf on Myntra. Its “lifetime guarantee” covers functional faults on wheeled suitcases bought from 25 July 2022, not dents or scratches, and everything else carries two years. Buy it in a boutique, with an invoice that names the seller.

Who owns Rimowa
LVMH’s own release of 4 October 2016 sets out the deal. The group agreed to buy 80% of Rimowa for €640 million from Dieter Morszeck, whom it describes as the founder’s grandson, and he kept an equity stake and a leadership role. Completion was expected in January 2017, with Alexandre Arnault becoming co-chief executive. Rimowa’s heritage page puts it the brand’s way: “RIMOWA joins a larger family in 2017: the LVMH Group”. The two dates are the announcement and the completion, not a disagreement.
No LVMH document read since then records a purchase of the remaining 20%, so this page says LVMH bought 80% and nothing more about the size of its holding today. LVMH lists Rimowa among its Fashion & Leather Goods houses.

LVMH release, 4 October 2016; Rimowa heritage page; CPP-Luxury, 22 November 2023; Ethos release reported 3 October 2025.
LVMH’s full-year results for 2025, released on 27 January 2026, give group revenue of €80.8 billion and Fashion & Leather Goods revenue of €37.77 billion. Those are the owner’s figures and the division’s, not the brand’s, and the release does not mention Rimowa at all. The interim release of 27 July 2026 gives the division €18,146 million for the half-year, against €19,115 million a year earlier, and its only line on the brand is “Rimowa achieved strong growth in the half-year period.”
The last Rimowa-specific number LVMH has published is a forecast in the 2016 release: “RIMOWA revenue for 2016 are expected to exceed 400 million euros”. That was a projection at the time of purchase, and no reported figure has followed it.
How Rimowa reaches India
LVMH has Indian companies of its own. The companies register mirror shows no Indian company with Rimowa in its name; the same search for Louis Vuitton finds Louis Vuitton India Retail Private Limited and a second LVMH-group company, so the search can find the group’s Indian entities when they exist. LVMH’s results releases do not mention India for Rimowa.
The Indian partner is named by the partner. On 16 November 2021 a trade-news report of an Ethos Limited filing quoted it as signing “a FRANCHISE CONTRACT for the opening of the first Rimowa store” at Jio World Plaza, Mumbai. Ethos Limited is a listed company, CIN L52300HP2007PLC030800, described in that report as a material subsidiary of KDDL. Its 2023-24 annual report, filed with the National Stock Exchange on 5 September 2024, says: “We have recently opened the first boutique for Rimowa, offering their luxury luggage range … in India.” The Mumbai store opened in November 2023, according to India Retailing and CPP-Luxury.
The Delhi boutique sits with a second company. An Ethos release reported on 3 October 2025 says “Ethos Limited, through its wholly owned subsidiary Ethos Lifestyle Private Limited” opened an exclusive Rimowa boutique at DLF Emporio, Vasant Kunj. Ethos Lifestyle, CIN U47732HR2024PTC118558, was incorporated in Gurgaon on 2 February 2024 and was formerly RF Brands Private Limited. A later report, on 1 May 2026, says Ethos raised its holding in the subsidiary from 75.05% to 77.42%. Both are secondary reports of Ethos filings, and they do not agree on whether the subsidiary is wholly owned.
Pranav Saboo, quoted by Harper’s Bazaar India on 10 November 2025 as managing director and chief executive of Ethos Lifestyle, said: “We are proud to play a role in its growth in India.” The same piece counts two Rimowa stores in the country. No document read says whether the 2021 franchise contract moved from Ethos Limited to Ethos Lifestyle, or what arrangement covers the Delhi store.
Rimowa’s Indian store locator showed “There are no RIMOWA addresses matching your search” on 22 September 2026, while the mall’s own page lists the Delhi boutique. Rimowa’s authenticity page names no Indian partner either.
Rimowa’s Indian website and its terms
On 22 September 2026, rimowa.com/in/en showed rupee prices marked “Inclusive of all taxes” and offered “Complimentary shipping on all luggage orders online”. The terms on the same Indian path, dated October 2019, name “RIMOWA GmbH … Richard-Byrd-Str. 13, 50829 Cologne, Germany” as the seller and apply German law. Their delivery clause reads: “The products can be exclusively delivered to addresses within the European Union as well as Norway, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Monaco.”
Both statements were on the site on the same day, and this page does not choose between them. The Indian pages read name no Indian company, GST number or grievance officer, and the footer carries only “© 2026 RIMOWA – All rights reserved”.
Rimowa’s Indian site offers rupee prices and free shipping while its terms deliver only within Europe. Until the brand says which applies, buy where the invoice names an Indian seller — a boutique does.
Rimowa on Myntra
There is no Rimowa shelf on Myntra. A search for “rimowa” on 22 September 2026 produced no Rimowa brand filter; the results page filled with other luggage instead, led by American Tourister with 62 listings and Safari with 60. Columbia, run in the same session as a control, showed 2,426 listings, so the search was working.
That leaves no marketplace declaration to read, and no seller of record, importer or country of origin to set against Rimowa’s German address. A Rimowa case offered on a general marketplace in India would be coming through a channel the brand does not name.
Where Rimowa is made
Rimowa’s product pages in India and Germany use the same words: “Designed in Germany. Produced in our RIMOWA factories.” They name no country of manufacture. LVMH’s own page on the brand counts “3 production sites worldwide” and 3,000 employees, and does not name the sites either.
With no Indian declaration in print, the Legal Metrology block — the panel the law requires on the box, carrying the MRP, the country of origin and the importer — is the only place an Indian buyer will find the answer. Ask to see it in the boutique before paying. The design is German; where a given case was made is a separate fact, and only that label states it.
What Rimowa costs in India
Rimowa publishes the same article codes on its German and Indian sites, so the comparison below is a code match on the brand’s own pages, read on 22 September 2026. The German prices include VAT, the German terms say; the Indian prices are marked “Inclusive of all taxes”. No exchange rate is applied and no gap is computed.
| Case | Article code | Germany, rimowa.com/de (incl. VAT) | India, rimowa.com/in (incl. all taxes) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Original Cabin, silver aluminium | 92553004 | €1,200.00 | ₹1,68,000.00 |
| Classic Cabin, silver aluminium | 97353004 | €1,280.00 | ₹1,78,500.00 |
| Essential Check-In M, gloss green polycarbonate | 83263681 | €880.00 | ₹1,23,000.00 (homepage tile; the product page showed no price, so not a confirmed code match) |
rimowa.com/de and rimowa.com/in product pages and Indian homepage, read 22 September 2026.
The Indian homepage showed three more cases the same day: the Original Check-In L at ₹2,10,000, the Classic Cabin in titanium at ₹1,68,000 and the Essential Sleeve Cabin at ₹1,29,000. Each page showed a single price, with no separate MRP and discounted figure.
On tax, one Indian figure is on the record. Suitcases and travelling bags of heading 4202 carry IGST at 18% under Notification No. 9/2025-Integrated Tax (Rate), dated 17 September 2025. The Budget 2026-27 cut duty on goods imported for personal use from 20% to 10% from 1 April 2026; how that applies in practice to a suitcase bought abroad is not established, and Rimowa’s own terms deliver only within Europe in any case.
On these figures Rimowa is a Luxury purchase in India, well past the ₹40,000 mark the site uses for bags. The band rests on the brand’s own dated rupee prices, since there is no Myntra shelf to read.
The lifetime guarantee, as published
The headline is short. Rimowa’s Indian product page for the Original Cabin says “Lifetime guarantee”, and a “RIMOWA Client Care Centre” page on ethoswatches.com goes further: “Our Lifetime Guarantee is covering all functional damage to your suitcase – including that caused by transports”.
Rimowa’s lifetime is the suitcase’s lifetime, and only a suitcase with wheels gets one.
The policy on the Indian FAQ is narrower. It applies to new suitcases bought from 25 July 2022 and covers “all functional aspects of your RIMOWA suitcase for the lifespan of your suitcase”. It “does not apply to cosmetic wear and tear, misuse, or abuse”, nor to natural changes in leather or damage from unsuitable cleaning agents or heat. Read plainly, scratches and dents in the shell fall outside it; a fault that stops the case working falls inside.
The scope is the bigger limit: “All RIMOWA products that do not belong to our suitcase with wheels product catalogue come with a 2-year guarantee.” Bags, backpacks and accessories therefore get two years, not a lifetime. A suitcase bought before 25 July 2022 gets five years if it was registered online and two if not, and that older cover reaches only faults present at hand-over.
A claim needs the “certificate of guarantee or original proof of purchase”, and the owner pays to send the case in. The Indian FAQ names no country restriction, but it also does not say whether a case bought abroad, or from a seller Rimowa does not authorise, will be honoured in India. The authenticity page is clear on one point: a counterfeit gets no guarantee. No page read says whether the guarantee passes to a second owner.
How to check a Rimowa is genuine
Rimowa publishes a real check, but only for recent suitcases. Cases bought from 1 January 2023 carry an NFC tag, a small contactless chip, “integrated behind the telescopic handle at the base of your suitcase”. Scanning it registers the case and issues a digital RIMOWA Ownership Certificate, which Rimowa describes as “a unique digital identity card for your RIMOWA suitcase” stored on the Aura Blockchain Consortium platform and held in a phone wallet.
Older cases have a serial number on the frame near the hinge, which Rimowa says appears on all its suitcases. Rimowa offers no public page for looking a serial up, so the number proves little on its own.
On sellers, the authenticity page says Rimowa is “exclusively available through our official RIMOWA stores, the official RIMOWA website at www.rimowa.com, the official RIMOWA WeChat account, and carefully selected partners”. It does not “authorise the sale of our products through street vendors, unauthorised retail locations, or unauthorised websites”. It names no partner in India. Compare Casio, whose Indian site publishes a list of authorised sellers, as our Casio audit sets out; Rimowa’s buyer has only the two boutiques the press reports.
Scan the tag
On a case bought from 2023, the NFC chip behind the handle should open Rimowa’s own registration and issue an ownership certificate.
Read the domain
The brand’s only website is rimowa.com. Check the address bar before paying for a case online.
Read the box
Ask for the Legal Metrology panel: the MRP, the country of origin and the importer’s name. It is the only statement of where the case was made.
Keep the invoice
The guarantee needs proof of purchase. An invoice naming the seller is also the only answer to who sold you the case.
The record in India
India’s public case-law database carries five orders under the Rimowa name, all in one suit: Rimowa GmbH v. Metafashion Studios Private Limited, CS(COMM) 397/2026, in the Delhi High Court. The same database shows more than two thousand results for Samsonite, so it does carry luggage-brand litigation.
On 3 September 2026 the court decreed the suit in Rimowa’s favour. Rimowa’s suit concerned its registered design No. 284193, and the defendant had sold “NAVIGO ELITE” aluminium trolley cabin luggage. By an affidavit of 30 April 2026 the defendant said it had stopped selling the product and undertook “unconditionally and irrevocably” not to use any design “identical/similar to registered design number 284193”. The court allowed it to sell its existing 29 pieces within three months.
The defendant appeared through counsel, and the decree rests on its own undertaking rather than on a trial of the merits. It decided that one suit, over that product, as the matter then stood. Nobody has ruled that any other aluminium suitcase on the Indian market copies Rimowa’s design.
Who Rimowa is actually for
Rimowa is for a buyer who wants the aluminium case itself and will pay ₹1,68,000 for a cabin size to get it. The guarantee is long for what it covers, and the NFC certificate is a real, published way to check a case. That buyer should walk into one of the two boutiques, take an invoice, and register the case.
For the travel itself, a hard-shell case need not be German or cost six figures. Readers weighing that can compare the Indian-owned makers in our audits of VIP Industries and Skybags, whose cases are built for the Indian mass market.
Common questions
Is Rimowa a German brand?
Yes. It began in Cologne, its selling company RIMOWA GmbH is registered there, and LVMH calls it “the first German Maison of the LVMH Group”. Its product pages say “Designed in Germany” and name no country of manufacture.
Who owns Rimowa?
LVMH, which agreed to buy 80% in a deal announced on 4 October 2016 and completed in 2017. No LVMH document read records a purchase of the remaining 20%.
Who sells Rimowa in India?
Ethos. Ethos Limited opened the Mumbai boutique at Jio World Plaza in November 2023 under what a 2021 report of its filing calls a franchise contract, and its subsidiary Ethos Lifestyle Private Limited runs the New Delhi boutique at DLF Emporio.
Is Rimowa’s lifetime guarantee valid in India?
The guarantee FAQ on the Indian site names no country restriction. It covers functional faults, not cosmetic wear, on wheeled suitcases bought from 25 July 2022; other products get two years. It does not say whether a case bought abroad is covered here.
Can I buy Rimowa on Myntra?
No Rimowa brand listing existed on Myntra on 22 September 2026. The brand names its own stores, rimowa.com, WeChat and selected partners as its only channels.

Rimowa is exactly what it says on the ownership side: a German maker, 80% bought by LVMH in 2016, with a Cologne company named as seller and two Indian boutiques run by a listed Indian retailer. The NFC ownership certificate on cases bought from 2023 gives a buyer a real check, and the aluminium Original Cabin was ₹1,68,000 on its Indian site on 22 September 2026.
The scepticism belongs with the paperwork. “Lifetime guarantee” means functional faults on wheeled suitcases bought from 25 July 2022, not cosmetic wear such as dents, and two years on everything else. The Indian website quotes rupees and free shipping while its terms deliver only within Europe, its store locator showed no Indian address, and no page names the country where a given case was made.
A German case with a genuine long guarantee for what it covers — buy it in a boutique, read the box, and scan the tag before you leave.
