W for Woman: who owns it, what it costs, and what the label declares

W for Woman belongs to Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited, which trades it as its TCNS Division. On 7 September 2026, 84.6% of 4,248 Myntra listings were reduced, at 64.1% of MRP, and 18 of 30 declarations on the brand's own shop named a company dissolved in 2024.

Every packaged good sold in India carries a declaration naming the company answerable for it. On wforwoman.com, 18 of 30 product declarations read on 7 September 2026 name TCNS Clothing Co. Limited. Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited told the stock exchanges on 1 September 2024 that TCNS “stands amalgamated into and with ABFRL and dissolved without being wound up”.

Who owns the brand is not in doubt. ABFRL’s results release of 25 May 2026 names “leading women’s brands W, Aurelia, Wishful, Elleven and Folksong”, and the registered office on wforwoman.com’s own declaration is ABFRL’s Kurla address. Two dated readings, side by side.

The short answer

W for Woman belongs to Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited, which trades it as its TCNS Division. The 2025 demerger that moved Louis Philippe, Van Heusen, Allen Solly and Peter England into a separate listed company moved a defined list, and W was not on it.

On 7 September 2026, 84.6% of 4,248 Myntra listings were reduced, with ₹1,24,73,461 of MRP charged as ₹79,96,633 — 64.1% of MRP. The brand’s own shop came out at 65.2%.

Who owns W for Woman

The demerger that created Aditya Birla Lifestyle Brands Limited moved a defined list, and the scheme filed with the exchanges spells it out: four lifestyle brands — Louis Philippe, Van Heusen, Allen Solly and Peter England — with American Eagle, Forever 21, Reebok and the Van Heusen innerwear business. The appointed date was 1 April 2024.

Everything outside that list stayed put. The scheme defines the “Remaining Business of the Demerged Company” as “all the business, units, divisions, undertakings, and assets and liabilities of the Demerged Company other than the Demerged Undertaking”. The demerged company is ABFRL, CIN L18101MH2007PLC233901; the resulting one is Aditya Birla Lifestyle Brands Limited, CIN U46410MH2024PLC423195. W is nowhere in the list that moved.

Two dated readings confirm it from the other direction. ABFRL’s results release of 25 May 2026 groups W with Aurelia, Wishful, Elleven and Folksong, records “~7% LTL growth in Q4” for the TCNS portfolio, and says the first W flagship opened in Mumbai. And wforwoman.com’s own declaration gives the registered office as Piramal Agastya Corporate Park, Kurla, Mumbai 400070, with a care email on the abfrl.adityabirla.com domain. When a W listing names Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited, that is the current company.

The company named on the label

The Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011, notified on 7 March 2011 and extended to online sellers from 1 January 2018, require a retail package to name the manufacturer or packer with an address, the country of origin, the net quantity and a price inclusive of all taxes. That block names who is legally answerable for the goods, not who sewed the garment, and a brand naming another company there is ordinary practice.

W publishes the block twice over, and the two channels do not read the same way. The brand’s own shop carries a “Manufacturing Details” accordion with the style code, quantity, marketer, manufacturer and origin. Thirty were read in full on 7 September 2026: 18 name TCNS Clothing Co. Limited as marketer, 12 name ABFRL’s TCNS Division. Sixty Myntra listings read the same day gave 23 naming ABFRL’s TCNS Division, four a legacy TCNS entity and 33 a third-party manufacturer.

Thirty-three manufacturer names across sixty listings is a wide spread. Peter England gave 21 entity-and-address combinations on Myntra, and Aurelia, read the same day, gave 64 across 120. They include Gourav Craft of Gurgaon, Stitch Care India of Noida across three spellings, S.K.Y. Computer Embroidery of Gurugram across three more, and about two dozen others. On 37 of the 60, the declared manufacturer is a different company from the seller of record.

Four Myntra listings name a TCNS form the company stopped using in January 2018: two read “TCNS Clothing Co Pvt. Ltd”, one “TCNS LIMITED”, one “TCNS UDYOG VIHAR(MFG)”. One manufacturer field on the brand’s own shop reads, in full, “Third party manufacturer engaged by TCNS Clothing Co Ltd” — a manufacturer declaration naming no manufacturer.

Two years and six days after ABFRL told the exchanges that TCNS had been dissolved, its name was printed on 18 of 30 declarations in the brand’s own shop.

The marketplace mostly names the current company; the brand’s own shop mostly names the dissolved one. Both readings are from 7 September 2026, and Aurelia’s own shop reads the same way at 18 of 29. Nothing here says why. The practical point is that a label is not evidence of who owns a brand today — the corporate record is.

The sellers of record on Myntra run to seven strings across five companies. ABFRL appears on 58 of the 60 and is first-named on 51; Flashtech Retail on 17, Eshopbox on 23 across two spellings, Westbury Holdings Private Limited on eight. Fifteen listings carry more than one seller, and one shows the dissolved TCNS Clothing Co. Limited as its first-named seller. Two facts beside each other: Westbury Holdings is a seller of record on W listings on Myntra, and was recorded selling Louis Philippe on Tata CLiQ on 6 September 2026.

What W for Woman costs in India

Myntra files the brand as “W”, and the facet held 4,528 listings on 7 September 2026, of which 4,248 were read individually. Some 3,592 were reduced, or 84.6%, against 656 at MRP. Median MRP ₹2,499, median price charged ₹1,460, median discount among the reduced 44%, deepest 69.3%. In aggregate, ₹1,24,73,461 of MRP was being charged as ₹79,96,633 — 64.1% of MRP.

The brand’s own shop was read the same day and prints “MRP (inclusive of all taxes)” beside the regular price, so a percentage off MRP means something there. Of 4,775 W products in stock, 3,735 were reduced — 78.2% — at a median discount of 48%, and the shop charged 65.2% of MRP in aggregate. Of the 1,040 not reduced, 1,009 carry no MRP figure at all, only a price.

7 September 2026 Myntra wforwoman.com
Listings read 4,248 4,775 in stock
Share reduced 84.6% 78.2%
Charged, as a share of MRP 64.1% 65.2%
Median discount among reduced 44% 48%
Distinct MRPs 86 80
Distinct discount percentages 69 62

A point separates the two channels: the marketplace and the brand’s own shop were charging the same share of MRP. That holds for this brand on this day and does not carry across the shelf — Aurelia’s own shop came out about eight points cheaper than Myntra, Biba’s dearer.

The number to notice is 69. Counting distinct values answers what a median cannot — whether a price belongs to the garment or to a slot on a grid. Three retailers read the week before were on very short ladders: H&M at 47 distinct MRPs across 11,685 listings, Uniqlo at 23, Urbanic at seven discount percentages. W’s discount labels run every whole number from 1% to 69% with no gaps. The MRPs are a ladder — 86 values, 4,078 of the 4,248 ending in 99 — and the discounts are not.

The countdown, the coupon and the floor

Of the 60 Myntra listings read in full, 52 were discounted and every one carried the label “OFFER ENDS IN”. The field that would hold a start time reads zero on all 52. The end times, 53 distinct ones, all fall between 02:40:48 and 03:11:31 on the morning of 8 September 2026 — a window thirty-one minutes wide, 10.8 to 11.3 hours after the reading, staggered second by second.

Uniqlo’s sale flags, read the day before, carried a start value and no end date. One shape gives an offer a beginning and no end, the other an end and no beginning, and both describe a price that does not go back up. The counter-example is Westside, whose listings sat at MRP on 6 September 2026: a permanent discount is a choice.

Underneath the countdown sits a coupon dated 10 and 11 October 2026, a month out — and it belongs to the whole shelf. Across the first 100 listings of each brand’s facet it sat on 100 of W’s, 99 of Aurelia’s, 98 of Soch’s, 96 of Biba’s, 95 of Global Desi’s, 93 of Libas’s and 86 of Anouk‘s, so it distinguishes nothing. Bank offers sit on top again — 10% instant discount on two credit cards above a ₹3,500 spend, and 7.5% cashback on two more above ₹100.

Worth knowing

Prices here are read as a logged-out shopper sees them, before coupons and card offers. Treat 64.1% of MRP as the most you would pay.

One listing, stated as one listing. Style 1017267, MRP ₹1,499, carries catalogue attributes giving its season as summer, its year as 2015 and a catalogue date of 16 October 2015. On 7 September 2026 it showed a 25% reduction under a countdown expiring at 02:42 the next morning.

Where W for Woman sells

Myntra, the brand’s own shop, and Tata CLiQ, whose W brand page carried 4,966 products with ABFRL’s TCNS Division declared as manufacturer and ABFRL as seller. A plain search for “w for woman” on Tata CLiQ brings back two unrelated deodorant sets, because the shop files the brand as “W”. A search is a ranking function; a brand page is the shop’s own list.

That shop’s catalogue runs to 9,448 products across four labels — W 6,987, Folksong 1,112, Elleven 821, Wishful 528 — with Aurelia in the same navigation but on a shop of its own. Ajio, Amazon, Flipkart, Nykaa Fashion and Meesho were not read for W, so this page says nothing about them.

One platform reading is worth printing because a shopper cannot see it. Myntra’s product records carry an attribute marking a brand as one of its own House of Brands labels. It is off for W on all 60 listings and on a separate sample of 15, and on for 13 of 15 Anouk listings and 15 of 15 Roadster ones. That is the platform’s own classification of its own catalogue, not a trade-mark record — but it points the same way as the filings, and Myntra Designs Private Limited appears on no W declaration or seller record.

Stores, revenue and the gaps

ABFRL discloses no store count for W alone. Its Q4 FY26 presentation says W “opened 23 new stores in FY26” and gives no total. It reports 685 ethnic brand stores at 31 March 2026 and 672 at 30 June 2026, but that covers the whole ethnic portfolio of eleven brands, from Aurelia and Folksong to Jaypore and Sabyasachi. Group-wide it reports 1,273 stores across 7.9 million square feet at 31 March 2026 and 1,286 at 30 June 2026.

Two W-specific numbers exist, each with its basis. The TCNS prospectus records 281 exclusive brand outlets at 31 March 2018, alongside 1,469 large-format outlets across 203 cities and 1,522 multi-brand outlets — eight years old, and printed with its date. And the brand’s own store locator resolved to 285 store pages on 7 September 2026, which is a count of locator pages, not a company disclosure.

No revenue figure for W exists on anything read here. The narrowest ABFRL publishes is Ethnic Businesses — ₹2,227 crore in FY26, up 14%, and ₹454 crore in the first quarter of FY27 — and that segment carries at least eleven brands. ABFRL as a whole reported FY26 revenue of ₹8,177 crore with a loss after tax of ₹830 crore. Fibre2Fashion, reporting the same results, records that TCNS improved profitability in FY26 with cash losses reduced by half.

The register did not yield an owner for a single-letter mark, so this page names none and says nothing about whether it is registered. Nor is it known whether the TCNS marks have been recorded in ABFRL’s name since the amalgamation, or when W was launched — the 2018 prospectus does not say, so no founding year appears above.

The advertising record

The Advertising Standards Council of India’s complaints file was searched under four names — W for Woman, TCNS, TCNS Clothing and Aditya Birla Fashion — and nothing is filed against any of them. That needs qualifying rather than reading as a clean bill. The council is a self-regulatory industry body, not a statutory regulator, and its file is built around objective claims: efficacy, percentages, “No. 1”. Clothing makes almost none of those, so an empty apparel file says as much about the category as about the brand.

Who W for Woman is actually for

A ₹1,460 median on Myntra and ₹1,400 on the brand’s own shop buys an office-appropriate kurta from a company whose accounts are public, whose registered office is printed on the product page, and whose shops you can return to. That is the case for paying more than the deep-discount labels charge.

Check 01

Open the manufacturing details

On the brand’s own shop the block gives the style code, quantity, marketer and manufacturer. Note the style code: the marketplace prints none, which is why the same garment cannot be priced across the two.

Check 02

Price the garment, not the discount

With 84.6% of the catalogue reduced on the day of reading, the reduced price is the ordinary price. Ask whether the kurta is worth ₹1,460, not whether ₹2,499 down to ₹1,460 sounds a bargain.

Check 03

Do not expect a fabric weight

Fibre composition is printed as a percentage on all 60 Myntra listings read. GSM — grams per square metre, the figure for how heavy the cloth is — appears on none of the 90 declarations read.

Common questions

Who owns W for Woman?

Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited, CIN L18101MH2007PLC233901, which trades the brand as its TCNS Division. ABFRL bought 51% of TCNS Clothing Co. Limited in September 2023 and merged the company into itself with effect from 1 September 2024. Its results release of 25 May 2026 names W among its own women’s brands.

Is W part of the company that owns Louis Philippe?

Not since 2025. The scheme of arrangement moved a defined list — Louis Philippe, Van Heusen, Allen Solly, Peter England, American Eagle, Forever 21, Reebok and the Van Heusen innerwear business — into Aditya Birla Lifestyle Brands Limited. W was not on that list and stayed with ABFRL, which is why a W listing naming Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail names the current company.

Why do W labels name TCNS Clothing Co. Limited?

That is the name on 18 of 30 declarations read on wforwoman.com on 7 September 2026, and four Myntra listings name older TCNS forms including one the company stopped using in January 2018. The company itself was dissolved on 1 September 2024. No document read explains the gap, and the corporate record rather than the label is the thing to go by.

Are W discounts real?

The prices charged are real. On 7 September 2026, 84.6% of 4,248 Myntra listings were reduced, at 64.1% of MRP in aggregate, and the brand’s own shop came out at 65.2%. Every discounted listing carried a countdown with no start time, ending within about eleven hours, so the reduced price is the ordinary price rather than an event.

Where can I buy W apart from Myntra?

The brand’s own shop at wforwoman.com, which also carries Wishful, Elleven and Folksong, and Tata CLiQ, whose W brand page held 4,966 products on 7 September 2026. The store locator resolved to 285 store pages the same day. Other marketplaces were not checked for this page.

Does W publish fabric weight?

No. Fibre composition is given on all 60 Myntra listings read on 7 September 2026, as a percentage, and as a fabric name on the brand’s own shop. GSM appears on none of the 90 declarations read across the two channels, which matches every apparel brand this site has checked so far.

The FA take

On the question this shelf makes hardest to answer — is there a company behind the name? — W gives the clearest yes on it: a listed parent, public accounts, a registered office on the product page and shops you can walk into. Set that against Anouk, where 207 companies declare themselves answerable across 450 listings and the company on the mark appears on none.

What you do not get is a straight answer on the label: 33 manufacturer names across 60 marketplace listings, 18 of 30 declarations in its own shop naming a company dissolved on 1 September 2024, and no fabric weight anywhere. At 64.1% of MRP on one channel and 65.2% on the other, the ₹2,499 median MRP is a number almost nobody pays.

Buy it for the company behind it and the shops you can return to — and price the kurta at ₹1,460, because that is what it costs.
