Lululemon Brand Audit: Announced in India, Not Open Yet

Lululemon has signed Tata CLiQ and announced a Delhi store but runs none in India — what importing it costs, and what stands behind nine named fabrics.

Lululemon has entered India, and the shop is not open yet. It signed a franchise partner in July 2025, named the Indian entry in its own press release that December, and announced a first store in New Delhi in July 2026 — and on its most recent filing it operates no store here at all.

That leaves this page without what every other audit here opens with: an Indian price. No shelf, no maximum retail price, no declaration on a box, no seller of record. What sits in its place is more useful to a shopper.

The short answer

Lululemon is a Vancouver company listed on the NASDAQ, with 825 stores worldwide and none in India. Its entry is franchised to Tata CLiQ, and a first store at DLF Promenade in New Delhi was announced on 7 July 2026 to open “later this autumn” — as at 15 September 2026 nothing established that it had opened. You can buy direct from the brand’s own site today at US$30 shipping, with every rupee of Indian duty on you.

A brand that has arrived on paper

lululemon athletica inc. is a standalone public company. No group parent, no conglomerate, no licensor — the shares are listed on the NASDAQ, and that is the whole ownership question.

Its annual filing for the 52 weeks ended 1 February 2026 reports net revenue of US$11.1 billion, up 5%, a gross margin of 56.6% and net income of US$1.579 billion. In the quarter to 2 August 2026 revenue fell 4% to US$2.4156 billion, the Americas down 8% and international up 4%.

India is in none of those numbers, and the word does not appear anywhere in the body of that annual filing — not in the store tables, not in the risk factors, not in the discussion of new markets, which names EMEA and APAC and no country.

Americas476462
China Mainland172151
Asia Pacific outside China114107
Europe, Middle East and Africa4947

The filing’s country breakdown names ten Asian markets, three with populations far below India’s: Singapore nine shops, New Zealand eight, Macau three. China Mainland alone carries 172 stores and 16% of group revenue.

The company in Bengaluru is a back office, not a shop

Read only the main annual document and you would conclude the brand has nothing in India at all. That would be wrong, and the correction sits one exhibit away: the subsidiaries exhibit filed with it lists, under India, lululemon India (Services) Private Limited.

What the register carries for it, as a company-register mirror reproduces it rather than as filed accounts: CIN U72900KA2021FTC145661, incorporated 22 March 2021, active, a subsidiary of a company incorporated outside India, registered in a Bengaluru technology park. Authorised capital ₹14 crore, paid-up capital ₹7 lakh — seven lakh rupees, not a missing zero.

Three things say what it is. Its name carries the word “(Services)”. Its filed activity code is the one for other computer-related activities. And the only Indian judgment mentioning a Lululemon company describes someone who worked at one as a senior architect. Nothing published says it will sell a garment, so this page does not call it the brand’s Indian retail arm.

How the India entry is described, and by whom

Trade reports of 16 July 2025 record Lululemon signing Tata CLiQ as its franchise partner, with a presence on the Tata CLiQ Luxury and Tata CLiQ Fashion platforms and stores planned for the second half of 2026. The brand put its own name to it five months later: its release of 18 December 2025 describes five European launches as coming “in addition to its previously announced entry into India through a partnership with Tata CLiQ”.

On 7 July 2026 came the address. The first store is DLF Promenade in New Delhi, to open “later this autumn”, with the online launch at the same time, covering yoga, Pilates, running, training, tennis and golf. Sarah Clark, the brand’s senior vice-president for EMEA, is quoted saying the city “presents strong demand for premium performance apparel”.

The shape of the arrangement decides what the brand answers for here. Its annual filing calls deals of this kind “license and supply arrangements” under which it has “granted third parties the right to operate lululemon branded retail locations and to sell lululemon products on websites in specific countries”; the press release calls the same thing a “franchise partnership model agreement”. Either way, somebody else runs the shop — and which somebody is not established, because every published source names the partner by its brand name only.

Lululemon and India, 2021 to 2026
  • March 2021A Bengaluru services company is incorporated
  • July 2025Tata CLiQ signed as franchise partner for India
  • December 2025The brand names the Indian entry in its own release
  • July 2026First store announced, DLF Promenade, New Delhi
  • August 2026The filing counts 825 stores and none in India

Five years between the Indian company and the Indian shop, and the shop is still an announcement.

What Lululemon costs in India

Nothing, because nothing is for sale. The store has not opened, the Tata CLiQ listings go live with it, and the brand has no shelf on India’s largest fashion marketplace — zero listings on 15 September 2026, in a reading that showed Columbia with 2,430 and Nautica with 5,423.

So this audit sets no Indian price band, and that is a choice. A band is computed from prices people are actually charged, and where there are none it is a guess wearing a number. The only other page here written without one belongs to Zudio, for the opposite reason: it sells plenty and publishes no prices at all.

The home-market figure is worth stating for what it is. On the brand’s American site on 15 September 2026, the Align High-Rise Pant 28″, product code prod8840324, carried a list price of US$118, excluding American sales tax. No rupee figure is set against it here, because the number that would turn it into an Indian price — what customs assesses on arrival — is published by nobody, and the brand itself says it will not estimate it.

What you can actually pay today

India is on Lululemon’s own list of countries it ships to, alongside Bangladesh, China, Indonesia, Singapore and the UAE. Its help pages, read on 15 September 2026, set out the terms in four lines.

What the brand’s own help pages stateWhat it means for an Indian buyer
“Standard shipping (5-10 business days) $30 USD”A flat US$30 on top of the list price, before anything Indian
“If you place an order online, you’ll be responsible for all duties, taxes, and customs charges.”The landed cost is yours, and it is assessed after you have paid
“We’re unable to estimate duties and taxes as this information will vary by country.”Nobody will tell you the number in advance, including the brand
“We currently can’t ship footwear to guests living outside of Canada and the US.”Shoes are off the table entirely until the Indian shop opens

So the honest answer to “can I buy Lululemon in India” is yes, direct from the brand, at the American list price plus US$30 plus a customs assessment nobody will quote you. It is the only authorised route open today.

One consequence will surprise Indian shoppers. Nothing is packaged for Indian retail, so there is no Legal Metrology declaration to read — no maximum retail price inclusive of taxes, no country of origin, no importer, no manufacturer line. That block is the most useful thing on any imported garment sold here, and the first thing to turn the box over for once the Delhi shop opens.

You can buy Lululemon in India today. What you cannot do is find out in advance what it will cost you.

Where it is made, and where it is not

Lululemon publishes a public facility list. The version on its supplier-list page on 15 September 2026 is headed May 2026 and covers “100% of Tier 1 active facilities… along with the subcontractors of the Top 10 Tier 1 facilities, and approximately 80% of Tier 2”.

It names 197 facilities, and not one of them is in India. The biggest concentrations:

CountryFacilities on the published list
Vietnam44
China Mainland30
Taiwan17
Cambodia13
Sri Lanka11
Indonesia9
Bangladesh3
India0

Its 2024 impact report gives the same picture independently: roughly 52 tier 1 suppliers and 67 tier 2, with manufacturing in “Vietnam, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and Bangladesh” and fabric from “Taiwan, China Mainland, and South Korea”. India is in neither list.

Beside the store count, that is the whole Indian position in a line: Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Vietnam all make for Lululemon, and India neither makes for it nor buys from it. Most imported labels reach Indian shoppers by one of two routes — a licence sold to an Indian company, which is how Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein get here, or an importer buying stock for a marketplace. This brand has taken neither.

What the performance claims stand on

This is a technical brand and its fabrics are the product. Its own fabric and technology page names nine, each with a benefit attached, and each was checked for a weight in grams per square metre, a test method, a named test house or a certificate.

FabricWhat the brand’s page saysWhat is published behind it
Luon“breathable and cottony-soft”, “four-way stretch”No test is published
Luxtreme“developed to handle serious sweat”, “inherently sweat-wicking”No test is published
Nulu“light compression, four-way stretch, and full coverage”No test is published
Nulux“sweat-wicking and quick-drying”, “incredibly lightweight yet opaque”No test is published
Everlux“unparalleled sweat-wicking capabilities”, “cool-to-the-touch”No test is published
Swift“water-repellent and sweat-wicking”, “no-bulk performance”No test is published
Warpstreme“sweat-wicking with four-way stretch”No test is published
Vitasea“retains its shape and stays soft after you wear and wash it”No test is published
Silverescent“prevents the growth of odour-causing bacteria”No test is published

Nine fabrics, nine claims, no number behind any of them. The Align pant’s product page does give a composition — 80% nylon and 20% Lycra elastane for Nulu — so fibre content is published at product level and performance specification nowhere.

Three of the nine make claims that established test methods exist for. Water repellency has a spray rating. Sweat-wicking and quick-drying have moisture-management methods. “Prevents the growth of odour-causing bacteria” is an antimicrobial efficacy claim, tested against named protocols. The brand’s page names none of the three.

Such numbers exist when a brand wants to print them. Read the same day, Decathlon’s British site publishes hydrostatic-head figures in millimetres, gram weights and wind-tunnel validation for products whose identical numeric model IDs are sold on its Indian site with none of it. Here there is no figure to cross a border in the first place.

The certifications it does cite, and the target that moved

Lululemon does name real third-party standards, and credit is owed for them — but they certify where a fibre came from and how an animal was treated, not how a garment performs. Its 2024 impact report names the Global Recycled and Recycled Claim Standards, the Organic Content Standard and GOTS, the Forest Stewardship Council, the Responsible Down Standard, the Good Cashmere Standard, and the Responsible Wool and Alpaca Standards.

Two names an Indian buyer of technical clothing has most likely seen elsewhere are absent from it: bluesign and OEKO-TEX. That is a statement about the report read, not proof that no such certificate exists.

The one hard materials number deserves a plain sentence. In 2024, 77% of procured polyester was recycled, beating a 75%-by-2025 target early, with a new target of 95% by 2030. Recycled or renewable nylon stood at 11%. In November 2025 the nylon target was revised from 100% by 2030 to 75% by 2030, and the supplier renewable-electricity goal — 25% by 2025, with 15% achieved in 2024 — became 50% by 2030. Noel Kinder, the company’s sustainability head, was quoted at the time: “This stuff takes longer than anyone wants it to take.”

Nylon matters more here than the polyester headline, because Nulu — the best-known fabric — is 80% nylon. The fibre in the leggings sits at 11% recycled, under a target that moved further away in November 2025.

Buying Lululemon in India

Until the Delhi shop and the Tata CLiQ listings go live, there is no authorised Indian seller of this brand, and that single fact drives every check below.

Check 01

Know which of the two routes you are on

Bought from the brand’s own site and imported by you, it is authorised and the duty is yours. Bought from an Indian shop or reseller today, it comes from a channel the brand has not authorised.

Check 02

There is no way to verify a garment

No code, no hologram, no serial lookup, no verification page and no published list of authorised retailers. The brand’s terms mention unauthorised sellers only in relation to gift cards, without naming who is authorised.

Check 03

Compare that with what other premium labels publish

Canada Goose, in the same bracket, runs an official counterfeit page for buyers, and the same look found it immediately — so the blank here is a real absence. Every “spot a fake” guide you will find is a reseller’s or an affiliate’s.

Check 04

Learn the names the brand treats as its own

In its American litigation it asserted the marks SCUBA, DEFINE, ABC and TIDEWATER TEAL, trade dress in the DEFINE jacket, SCUBA hoodie and ABC pant, and design patents on SCUBA products. Those are the words a copy usually reaches for.

Worth knowing

The Delhi store was announced for “later this autumn”, and one headline dated 13 July 2026 says it opened above a report that says it will. Nothing read on 15 September 2026 shows it trading, so treat any Indian shop selling the brand before then as unauthorised rather than early.

What the record shows

No decided Indian judgment for or against Lululemon appears on the public record. The only one that mentions a Lululemon company is a Karnataka High Court matter of 29 July 2026 between two other parties, in which it is named because a person involved had worked there as a senior architect. That is not a case about the brand, against the brand or about its goods, and not a finding against anyone.

An empty file counts only if the same look could have found a full one, so here is the control. The identical check against Columbia Sportswear, an American sportswear company selling here, shows 170 Indian matters, among them decided judgments in the Supreme Court in 2012 and the Delhi High Court in 2017. So the clean record is real — with the qualification stated in the same breath, that the brand has not traded here and so there has been little to litigate about. Nobody has ruled on anything to do with its goods in India.

Abroad, one decided disposition is on the record, and the brand was the claimant rather than the subject. A fashion-law report of the case records that on 11 May 2026 an American federal court approved dismissal with prejudice of claims about two named products in a case Lululemon brought against Costco, after settlements in February and April 2026. That was a disposition about specific products as it then stood, it is not a standing ruling about copies in general, and nobody has ruled on any of it in India.

What the advertising record shows

India’s advertising council publishes the complaints it has decided, and nothing on that record names Lululemon or Tata CLiQ. The blank is worth printing because the record is far from empty — one Indian personal-care brand alone carries 61 decided complaints, read the same way on the same day, 20 September 2026.

Two limits go with it. The council is a self-regulatory body rather than a statutory regulator, so nothing it decides binds anyone. And the record covers complaints decided up to that day: nobody has ruled on any advertisement running now.

Common questions

Can I buy Lululemon in India right now?

Yes, but only by importing it yourself. India is on the brand’s own shipping list at US$30 standard shipping, with all duties, taxes and customs charges payable by you — an amount the brand says it is unable to estimate. Footwear cannot be shipped outside Canada and the United States.

Has the Lululemon store in India opened?

It had been announced and nothing established that it had opened, as at 15 September 2026. The first store, at DLF Promenade in New Delhi, was announced on 7 July 2026 to open “later this autumn”. One headline from July says it has opened, above a report that says it will.

Who will actually sell Lululemon in India?

A franchise partner, Tata CLiQ, operating the Delhi store and listings on Tata CLiQ Luxury and Tata CLiQ Fashion. No published source names the legal entity that signed, so this page names none. Lululemon’s own Indian company, in Bengaluru, is filed for computer-related services and nothing published says it will sell anything.

Is Lululemon made in India?

No. Its published supplier list names 197 facilities and not one is in India. Its own impact report puts manufacturing in Vietnam, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Bangladesh, with fabric from Taiwan, China Mainland and South Korea.

Are the fabric claims tested?

No test is published for any of the nine fabrics the brand names — no weight in grams per square metre, no test method, no laboratory and no certificate. Fibre composition is given on product pages, such as 80% nylon and 20% Lycra elastane for Nulu, but performance specification is published nowhere.

How do I tell a real one from a fake?

The brand publishes no way to check. There is no code, hologram, serial lookup or verification page, and no list of authorised retailers. Until the Indian store opens, the safest route is the brand’s own site, and the thing to read on any Indian package once shops open is the declaration block on the box.

The FA take

What is good here is that the company is easy to read. A standalone listed business with no parent, a supplier list naming 197 factories, a subsidiaries exhibit that names its Bengaluru company, and help pages that state the shipping cost and say outright that the duty cannot be estimated. That is more openness than most imported labels on Indian shelves offer.

What deserves scepticism is the product writing. Nine named fabrics carry nine performance claims and no test is published for a single one — no weight, no method, no laboratory, no certificate — and three of those claims have established test methods the page does not name. The one hard materials number, 11% recycled nylon, sits under a target cut from 100% to 75% in November 2025, and nylon is what the leggings are made of.

Wait for the Delhi shop, then read the box — because until it opens, the only Lululemon in India is one you imported yourself, from a brand that publishes no way to check it is real.
