Michael Kors Brand Audit: No Indian Company, a London Seller of Record, and Bags at 63.1% of MRP on Myntra

Who owns Michael Kors, how the brand reaches India, who sells and imports it on Myntra, what two core bags cost on its own India site against the American one, where the bags are made, and what the two-year warranty leaves out.

Michael Kors is an American fashion house selling handbags, ready-to-wear, footwear and accessories. It belongs to Capri Holdings Limited, a company listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker CPRI, which reports Michael Kors as a segment of its own — so unlike some luxury houses, the brand’s revenue is published rather than buried in a group total.

India is the interesting part. Capri’s annual filing for the year ended 28 March 2026 does not contain the word “India” once: no Indian company on the register, no Indian subsidiary, and an India-facing website that sells through a London company. Eight Michael Kors shops trade here anyway, beside a marketplace shelf of 860 products.

The short answer

Michael Kors is owned by Capri Holdings, which published Michael Kors revenue of $2,874m for the year to 28 March 2026. The brand has no Indian company of its own: its India website names Global-E U.K. Limited as seller of record, and its Myntra listings are sold and imported by two small Delhi companies. Two core bags cost ₹45,000 and ₹51,000 on the brand’s own India site on 23 September 2026, which puts it in the Luxury band. The published two-year warranty excludes bags bought in Michael Kors’ Indian stores by name.

Who owns Michael Kors

The company that owns the brand has changed its name and its shape three times in fifteen years, and each change is on the record with a filing behind it.

One company, three shapes
  1. Michael Kors Holdings LimitedNYSE listing 14 December 2011, ticker KORS, $20.00 a share
  2. Capri Holdings LimitedRenamed 31 December 2018 on buying Versace
  3. Tapestry merger terminated13 November 2024; about $45m reimbursed to Capri
  4. A two-brand groupVersace sold to Prada 2 December 2025 for $1.375bn

That last step matters for anyone reading Capri’s numbers: the group now carries Michael Kors and Jimmy Choo, and Versace results are reported as discontinued operations.

Owner revenue is never brand revenue, and here the distinction is easy to make because Capri publishes both. Group revenue for fiscal 2026 was $3,474m and the Michael Kors segment $2,874m of it, down from $3,016m, on segment operating income of $312m. In the quarter to 27 June 2026, Michael Kors revenue was $590m, down 7.1% reported.

Watches and jewellery are not part of this. Capri’s annual filing says “Fossil is our exclusive licensee for Michael Kors watches and jewelry”, so that line is made and sold by a different company and our Fossil audit covers it.

How the brand reaches India

Capri names no Indian company anywhere. Its subsidiary list, filed with the 2026 annual report, runs to 48 Michael Kors companies across 37 countries, none of them India. A companies-register mirror showed nothing for “Michael Kors” on 23 September 2026; the same mirror gave three Louis Vuitton entities that day, so it does list foreign luxury houses’ Indian companies when they exist.

What does exist is a licence, recorded in an Indian customs tribunal order rather than in any company document. In an appeal decided on 1 April 2024, the tribunal named a “Master Store License Agreement dated 17.05.2013 with Michael Kors LLC, USA” among the appellant’s agreements. That appellant was Reliance Brands Luxury Fashion Private Limited, formerly Genesis Luxury Fashion Private Limited, CIN U74994MH2007PTC335798.

Two cautions travel with that. A licence is not a holding: Capri owns no part of the Indian operator, and the register shows that CIN as an ordinary private company, not a foreign subsidiary. And the mirror now shows the company’s status as “Amalgamated” — merged away — without naming what it merged into or when. That document was not readable in this pass, so this audit does not say which company holds the Michael Kors licence today, or on what terms. What can be said is that eight shops appear on the brand’s own locator and are trading.

Those eight are two in Delhi, three in Maharashtra, and one each in Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata. The locator names no operating company for any of them.

The India website, and who is the seller

There is an India-facing shop at michaelkors.global/in, and its own documents say plainly that it is a cross-border shop rather than an Indian one. The terms name “Michael Kors (Switzerland) GmbH” of Manno, Switzerland as the operator, and the contracting seller as “Global-E U.K. Limited”, registered in England and Wales at 45 Leather Lane, London.

“Global-E are the seller on record for all contracts for the purchase and sale of goods.” — michaelkors.global/in, FAQ, read 23 September 2026

No Indian company is named on the terms, FAQ or privacy notice as read on 23 September 2026.

Read the legal pages together and the absences pile up. No Indian entity, no Indian address, no grievance officer, no MRP and no “inclusive of all taxes” line appears on the terms, FAQ or privacy notice as read on 23 September 2026, and the only India contact route is a general form and a European email. Express delivery is quoted at ₹1,750, and the return label carries a ₹1,300 deduction.

Worth knowing

The site’s own two pages say different things about duty. The terms say prices include VAT where applicable and that import duties may be levied on arrival; the FAQ names India among countries where orders “may be subject to additional duties and taxes, which must be paid by the recipient”. Budget for the rupee price not being the final one.

The marketplace shelf, and who stands behind it

Alongside the eight shops sits a large Myntra shelf: 860 products on the “Michael Kors” facet on 23 September 2026, of which 335 are handbags. On 40 handbag records read that day, the seller of record was Darveys Global Store Private Limited on all 40, and the importer was NR Wardrobe Fuss Private Limited on all 40.

Company CIN and incorporation Paid-up capital Registered office
Darveys Global Store Private Limited (seller of record, 40 of 40) U52609DL2018PTC331151, 19 March 2018 ₹1,00,000 32 Ishwar Nagar, Mathura Road, New Delhi 110065
NR Wardrobe Fuss Private Limited (importer, 40 of 40) U51101DL2013PTC259910, 5 November 2013 ₹1,00,000 B-6/9 Okhla Industrial Area Phase 2, New Delhi 110020

Indian companies register mirror, read 23 September 2026. Both companies are shown as active, both show 31 March 2023 as the last balance sheet, and the register lists the same two directors for both.

Those are register facts and nothing more. No document read names either company as an authorised Michael Kors seller, or links either to Capri or to the licence in the tribunal order. The declarations say what they say about who sells and who imports; they carry no finding about the goods, and none is drawn here.

Where the bags are made

Capri’s fiscal 2026 filing says “Nearly all of our Michael Kors products were produced in Asia in Fiscal 2026.” It adds that the brand’s largest manufacturing contractor, working with Michael Kors for over twenty years, “accounted for the production of approximately 14% of its finished products, based on dollar volume”. Capri publishes no factory list, no country breakdown and no supplier count. “Asia” is as specific as it gets.

The product pages say no more: every Michael Kors bag page read on 23 September 2026, on the American and the India site alike, gives the origin line as “Imported” with no country named. The Myntra declarations are where a country appears — Vietnam 21, Indonesia 8, Cambodia 6, Bangladesh 3 and India 2 across 40 handbag records. A filing that says Asia, and 40 listings on one day that name five countries.

One material claim is published. The India page for the Hamilton Moderne says the leather “comes from tanneries receiving Leather Working Group Gold- or Silver-certification”, with no certificate number, tannery, audit date or share of the range beside it. No tannage type appears on any page read.

What Michael Kors costs in India

Two core bags carry the same style codes on the American and the India site, so they can be set side by side without any judgement about similarity. All four pages were read on 23 September 2026.

Bag Style code michaelkors.com (US) michaelkors.global/in
Hamilton Moderne Large Leather Satchel 30F5GNXS3L List $329.50, on sale $219 (“33% OFF”) ₹45,000
Bryant Large Leather Convertible Shoulder Bag 30F6AYTL7T $299.50 ₹51,000

Read 23 September 2026. Neither American page states a sales-tax basis; American sales tax is added at checkout rather than shown in the ticket price. The India pages print a rupee figure with no MRP wording and no “inclusive of all taxes” line. No conversion is applied here and no gap is computed, because the two sides do not state the same tax basis.

The India handbag listing page read the same day ran from ₹27,000 to ₹54,000, with no MRP or tax wording anywhere on it. Bags at ₹45,000 and ₹51,000 sit above the ₹40,000 floor of our Luxury band, and that tier rests on the house’s own Indian selling prices rather than on a marketplace figure.

Myntra says something different about what people pay. Across 100 handbag listings read on 23 September 2026, the median MRP was ₹40,000 and the median paid ₹25,240 — 63.1% of MRP. The Jet Set Travel Medium Crossbody showed ₹31,000 reduced to ₹17,990, the Mercer Medium Satchel ₹40,000 to ₹19,990, the Jet Set Large Crossbody ₹24,000 to ₹12,990. Gucci handbags read on the same platform the same day sold at 85.1% of MRP.

On tax, integrated GST runs at 18% on heading 4202, which covers handbags and similar articles, under Notification No. 9/2025-Integrated Tax (Rate) of 17 September 2025. Personal-import duty was cut to 10% from 1 April 2026. No basic customs duty rate is printed here, because no official notification giving one was read.

Warranty, and the line that names India

Michael Kors publishes a two-year limited warranty on handbags, small leather goods and tech accessories, running from the original date of receipt and requiring proof of purchase. It does not cover dye transference, accidents, misuse, or any alteration or repair by anyone other than Michael Kors.

The same page then excludes, by name, products bought in Michael Kors store locations in a list of countries that includes India, and sends those buyers back to the place of purchase. A bag bought at DLF Emporio or Palladium therefore sits outside the warranty published on the brand’s own India site, and what the Indian operator offers instead is not published on any page read on 23 September 2026. Ask in the shop before paying.

Authenticity: what a buyer can actually check

Michael Kors publishes no way to check a specific bag: no serial lookup, no code, no hologram, no QR tag and no digital passport on michaelkors.com or the India site as read on 23 September 2026. The American customer-service FAQ runs to 63 questions on shipping, returns, payment plans and the loyalty programme, and none concerns authenticity, counterfeits, serial numbers or authorised retailers. Its only verification wording is about metal: jewellery hallmarked by the UK Assay Office.

Such tools exist elsewhere, so this is a choice rather than an industry limit. Tumi publishes TUMI Tracer, a 20-digit code on the product that the owner registers. Michael Kors publishes neither, and no list of authorised Indian sellers appeared anywhere. Its own resale site, Michael Kors Pre-Loved, ships only within the fifty United States and is not a lookup for a bag you already own.

Check 01

Buy from the house’s own counter or site

With no per-item check published, the channel is the check. The eight locator shops and michaelkors.global/in are the only Indian points of sale the house itself names.

Check 02

Match the style code

The same code runs on both sites — 30F5GNXS3L, 30F6AYTL7T. Put it into the brand’s own site and see whether bag, colour and leather match what you are shown.

Check 03

Read the seller and importer lines, and keep the invoice

A marketplace listing prints its seller of record and importer. Read them, and keep the invoice: the published warranty asks for proof of purchase, and Indian shop purchases sit outside it.

The record in India

The Indian case law database was searched on 23 September 2026 for “Michael Kors” and “Michael Kors (Switzerland)”: 11 results and three. Most of the eleven mention a Michael Kors watch or bag only in a seizure list or a recital, with no Michael Kors company as a party. Two decided matters name one.

The first is a Delhi High Court order of 26 September 2025. It records that an FIR registered in 2024, under section 63 of the Copyright Act and section 104 of the Trade Marks Act, came from a complaint by the authorised representative of M/s Michael Kors (Switzerland) International GmbH, and that 21 items said to bear falsified copies of the company’s registered marks were seized from a shop that December. The matter ended in compromise: the parties recorded a settlement agreement dated 13 January 2025, the representative told the court there was no objection, and the FIR and the proceedings from it were quashed. No court tested whether the goods were counterfeit. That order decided one FIR as it then stood, nobody has ruled on anything beyond it, and the private party is not named here.

The second is the customs appeal already mentioned, decided on 1 April 2024. The tribunal allowed the Indian licensee’s appeal and set aside the Principal Commissioner’s order, holding that marketing and promotion expenses a buyer incurs on its own account cannot be added to the value of imported goods. That decision covered the valuation of those consignments as they then stood; nobody has ruled on how the arrangement works today.

Read the thinness for what it is. The same database showed 304 results for “Louis Vuitton Malletier”, the top five all Delhi High Court infringement suits, so it does return luxury-house enforcement litigation when there is some. India’s trade-mark register runs its public search only as a live form behind a one-time password, so it was not readable in this pass and no proprietor, number or class is recorded here from the register itself.

Buyers who would rather hold an Indian company to account can compare bag makers such as VIP Industries, Safari and Uppercase, which sell here through Indian companies.

Common questions

Who owns Michael Kors?

Capri Holdings Limited, listed on the New York Stock Exchange as CPRI. The company was called Michael Kors Holdings Limited until 31 December 2018, when it bought Versace and renamed itself. It sold Versace to Prada on 2 December 2025, so it now carries Michael Kors and Jimmy Choo.

Does Michael Kors have an Indian company?

None was found. A companies-register mirror showed nothing for the name on 23 September 2026, and Capri’s subsidiary list names 48 Michael Kors companies in 37 countries with none in India. The only Indian arrangement in any document read is a licence recorded in a 2024 customs tribunal order.

Is the India website an Indian shop?

No. Its terms name Global-E U.K. Limited, a London company, as the seller of record, and Michael Kors (Switzerland) GmbH as the operator and data controller. The pages publish no Indian address, no grievance officer, no MRP and no tax-inclusive wording.

Does the two-year warranty cover a bag bought in an Indian store?

The published policy excludes products bought in Michael Kors store locations in India by name and sends buyers back to the place of purchase. No Indian replacement policy is published on any page read, so ask in the shop and keep the invoice.

Where are Michael Kors bags made?

Capri’s filing says nearly all Michael Kors products were produced in Asia in fiscal 2026 and names no countries. Product pages say only “Imported”. On 40 Myntra handbag records read on 23 September 2026, the declared origins were Vietnam 21, Indonesia 8, Cambodia 6, Bangladesh 3 and India 2.

Can I have a Michael Kors bag authenticated?

Not by the house. It publishes no serial lookup, code, hologram or digital passport, and no list of authorised Indian sellers. Buy from the brand’s own counter or site, match the style code, and keep the invoice.

The FA take

The accounts are the good part. Capri reports Michael Kors as its own segment, so you can see the brand shrinking rather than guess at it: $2,874m for the year to 28 March 2026 against $3,016m, and $590m in the June quarter, down 7.1%. That is more than several larger houses disclose about their biggest brand.

The scepticism belongs in India. Capri’s filing does not mention this country once, the India site sells through a London company with no Indian address or grievance officer, the warranty names India in its exclusions, and every Myntra record read was sold and imported by two Delhi companies with ₹1 lakh of paid-up capital each. The brand asks ₹45,000 and ₹51,000 for bags whose origin line says only “Imported”, while the marketplace shelf moved at 63.1% of MRP the same day.

A brand whose owner publishes plenty and whose Indian arrangements publish almost nothing: buy it at the counter, ask who honours the warranty, and do not pay a full ₹45,000 without asking that question first.
