Nomos Glashütte is a German watchmaker in the Saxon town of Glashütte, founded in 1990 by Roland Schwertner. It describes itself as an “owner-operated, independent company”, and the firm behind it is a German limited partnership with no parent company and no stock-market listing.
In India, Nomos is sold at Ethos. On 22 September 2026 every Indian entry on the brand’s own retailer locator, across eight cities, was an Ethos outlet, and Myntra carried no Nomos listing at all.
Nomos is run by NOMOS Glashütte/SA Roland Schwertner KG, a limited partnership on the Dresden register whose personally liable partner is Uwe Ahrendt. Ethos stores make up all of the Indian entries on its locator. Ethos priced three matched references at ₹2,42,000 to ₹4,21,000 MRP, against €2,200 to €3,820 on Nomos’s German store. The warranty is two years and says nothing about service in India for a watch bought abroad.

Who owns Nomos
The brand’s imprint names the operating firm as NOMOS Glashütte/SA Roland Schwertner KG, registered at the district court in Dresden under HRA 2931. A KG, or Kommanditgesellschaft, is a German limited partnership. It has no managing directors in the company-law sense; it is run by a personally liable partner, and the imprint names Uwe Ahrendt as “Authoritative partner (full partner)”.
Roland Schwertner founded the brand in 1990, and his name is part of the firm’s name. No current document read names him as a partner today, so this page does not. Handelsblatt reported on 31 July 2020 that Ahrendt joined Schwertner’s Nomos in 2000 and became a partner in 2002, and that Judith Borowski became a partner too. A company press release of 6 August 2020 listed Ahrendt as the personally liable partner and gave Schwertner, then 67, responsibility for sales at that date.
North Data, a German register mirror rather than the register itself, shows a limited partner: Mittelständische Beteiligungsgesellschaft Sachsen mbH, Dresden, entered on 28 April 2010 with a contribution of €50,000. No source read gives the partners’ shares. On what is published, Nomos has no parent company and no listed group above it, which is why this page files it as independent.
No revenue, profit or headcount filing was found, so none is printed. The only volume figure read is a journalist’s: Handelsblatt estimated production in 2020 at “rund 35.000 Stück”, about 35,000 watches, and it is an estimate, not a company number.
What the Glashütte name means
“Glashütte” on a dial is a protected geographical indication in Germany. The Glashütte ordinance of 22 February 2022 sets the rule, and German customs summarise it in two parts. More than 50 percent of the value added in the essential manufacturing stages must come from the area of origin. The assembly and starting of the movement, its regulation, fitting the dial, setting the hands and casing the movement must all happen inside the town of Glashütte.
Glashütte on the dial is a legal claim: more than half the value added locally, and the movement assembled, regulated and cased inside the town.
The Saxon justice ministry’s announcement of 11 February 2022 adds that some steps may take place in Bärenstein, Lauenstein and Dresden, such as plating and laser work. Nomos’s own store describes its range as “Mechanical watches with a protected designation of origin under 5,000 euros”. The brand does not publish its own in-house percentage on the pages read, so none appears here.
How Nomos reaches India
No Indian Nomos company was found. A register-mirror search for “NOMOS GLASHUTTE” showed nothing, while the same search found Ethos Limited at once. A search for “NOMOS” alone showed 189 unrelated names, from sanitaryware to property firms, and none on the first page related to watches.
The brand’s own retailer locator is the clearest document. Searched on 22 September 2026 for Mumbai, New Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Pune and Chandigarh, it showed 12 Indian entries, and every one was an Ethos outlet. Mumbai had two at Bandra Kurla Complex, Delhi NCR six including a service point at Select City Walk, Saket, and Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai and Kolkata one each.

Every Indian route the brand itself names runs through Ethos.

Ethos’s brand page calls itself “Authorised Retailer For Nomos Glashutte” and listed 38 Nomos items on the day. An Ethos article of 18 May 2017 announced the launch: “Nomos Glashütte watches are now available in India!” It said prices started “from INR 100,750” and that the watches were available “exclusively at Ethos Watch Boutiques”. That is a retailer’s statement from 2017, not a contract read in 2026.
Ethos Limited is a listed company, CIN L52300HP2007PLC030800, registered in Parwanoo, Himachal Pradesh. No document read says whether it distributes or imports Nomos watches or only retails them, so this page calls it what the brand’s locator shows: the retailer on every Indian entry. Nomos’s own online store is no alternative, because India is not on its list of shipping countries.
Nomos on Myntra
Search Myntra for “nomos” and the brand filter offers nothing. On 22 September 2026 the catalogue count for the brand was zero. The search was working that day: Columbia, the control brand used across these readings, showed 2,428 listings in the same session.
That leaves no Myntra price, no seller of record and no marketplace declaration to report. No marketplace appears among the Indian entries on the brand’s own locator.
Warranty and service in India
Nomos’s warranty page gives “two years from date of purchase” and ties it to where the watch was bought. It applies to watches from “an authorized NOMOS dealer” or the Nomos store, with the “original invoice and a completed warranty book”. It excludes “Wear and tear, especially on the leather straps” and damage from “improper use” or “improper repair”, and it is “subject to the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany”. Claims go back to the dealer or to Nomos in Glashütte.
The page does not say whether a watch bought abroad is covered or serviced in India, and no page read says so. Registering a watch with Nomos does not lengthen the warranty either; the brand’s FAQ presents registration as help if a watch is lost. Ethos’s product pages for references 180, 309 and 146 print “Warranty Period | 2 Years”.
For servicing, the FAQ says service work is “guaranteed for two years” and that “Waterproofing has a one-year guarantee.” Nomos recommends a complete service “around once every five years” and publishes service prices in US dollars only, USD 300 to 575 by calibre. No rupee service price is published. The brand’s locator lists “Ethos Service” at Select City Walk, Saket, but not what that point handles, whether repairs on site or forwarding to Glashütte.
What Nomos says about its movements
Nomos calls its calibres DUW, for “Deutsche Uhrenwerke NOMOS Glashütte”, and says they are “developed in-house and manufactured in our own workshops”. Its calibre page lists automatics from DUW 3001 to DUW 6101 and hand-wound calibres including Alpha and DUW 4001. It also describes the “NOMOS swing system” as “the proprietary escapement from NOMOS Glashütte”, made up of escape wheel, anchor and balance wheel, and adds: “Only a very small number of manufacturers worldwide produce their own escapement.”
The product pages are specific. The Tangente 38, reference 165, names the hand-wound DUW 4001 with the swing system, 17 jewels and about 53 hours of power reserve. The Tangente neomatik 41 Update, reference 180, names the automatic “Manufakturkaliber DUW 6101” with 42 jewels and about 42 hours. The Tangente neomatik 39 blaugold, reference 146, names the DUW 3001 with a rotor that winds in both directions and about 43 hours.
One reference reads differently at the retailer. Nomos’s German store gives the Orion, reference 309, the hand-wound DUW 4001. Ethos’s page for the same reference lists “Calibre | Alpha”, and the brand’s own calibre page treats Alpha and DUW 4001 as separate calibres. Why the two pages differ is not established, so ask which movement the watch in the box carries.
No chronometer certificate is claimed on the product pages read. Water resistance is 5 atm on the Tangente and Orion models and 10 atm on the Club Campus 38, reference 735, and all carry sapphire crystal.
What Nomos costs in India
The three references below are matched by code: Ethos uses the same three-digit reference numbers as Nomos, and Ethos’s reference 180 page carries the EAN 4037525001805. Each German price is from Nomos’s own store, printed as “Preis inkl. MwSt.”, meaning German VAT included. Each Indian price is Ethos’s MRP, printed as “Inclusive of all taxes”; Ethos shows its selling price only through a “CHECK OUR SELLING PRICE” button.

Both sides read 22 September 2026. No currency conversion is made. Nomos’s US store listed reference 165 at USD 2,510 with no tax basis stated.
No gap is printed, because no conversion is made and the two prices carry different taxes. Ethos lists “Country Of Origin | Germany” on all three references. Travellers should note one change: the Budget 2026-27 cut duty on goods imported for personal use to 10% from 1 April 2026. How that applies to a watch in practice is not established.
These are MRPs, and Ethos’s actual selling price was not shown on the pages read. On MRP alone, every matched Nomos in India sits above ₹1,00,000, which places the brand in this site’s luxury band.
Buying a genuine Nomos
No Nomos page read publishes a serial lookup, a verification code or guidance on copies, and this page invents no tell. Replica sellers openly offer copies of the Tangente online. Nomos’s registration service records a serial number, but the brand presents it as help if a watch is lost, not as a check of authenticity.
Buy from the locator
The warranty covers watches from an authorised Nomos dealer. Look the shop up on the brand’s own retailer locator before you pay.
Keep the invoice and the book
A claim needs the original invoice and a completed warranty book. Ask for both to be filled in at the counter.
Match the reference
Nomos numbers its models, such as 309 for the Orion. Compare the reference and calibre with the brand’s own product page.
The record in India
A search of Indian Kanoon, the judgments database, on 22 September 2026 for “nomos” glashutte and for “schwertner” showed nothing. “Nomos” watches showed one unrelated Delhi criminal matter, which was read and has nothing to do with the brand. A control search for Rolex watch trade-mark cases showed many High Court results, so the database does carry watch-brand matters. Read this as nothing found under those terms on that day; the search did not cover district-court records beyond the database, the trade-mark registry or consumer commissions.
Who Nomos is actually for
Nomos suits a buyer who wants a German mechanical watch with a named in-house calibre, a published service schedule and a legally defined origin behind the word on the dial. The Tangente 38 at €2,000 on the German store is the cheapest reference priced on this page; the cheapest Indian MRP read is ₹2,42,000 for the Orion. Nomos’s own pages name the operating firm and its liable partner, the calibre in every model, the power reserve, the service interval and service prices, and the ordinance behind the word Glashütte gives that origin claim a legal test. For a buyer who wants a German hand-wound watch from an independent maker, the paperwork is unusually complete.
The Indian side is thinner. Ethos is the only retailer the brand names here, its MRPs start at ₹2,42,000 for an Orion that costs €2,200 in Germany, and its selling price sits behind a “CHECK OUR SELLING PRICE” button. The warranty says nothing about Indian service for a watch bought abroad, and on the Orion 309 the retailer and the brand name different calibres.
