Deuter is a German backpack brand based in Gersthofen, near Augsburg, and part of the family-owned Schwan-STABILO group, better known for its pencils and cosmetics. Nearly all of its packs are sewn in Vietnam by one long-standing partner.
In India the brand has one named distributor, Chogori India Retail Limited, which also sells it on its own site, adventuras.in. On 22 September 2026 Chogori was the seller of record on every Deuter listing read on Myntra, where the typical price paid was ₹6,999.
Deuter Sport GmbH belongs to Schwan-STABILO, whose Outdoor division, four brands including Deuter, sold EUR 188.7 million in the year to June 2025; Deuter’s own sales are not published. Deuter’s distributor list names Chogori India Retail Limited for India, and Chogori is the importer on Indian labels. On 22 September 2026 Myntra carried 132 Deuter products at a median ₹6,999, mostly declared made in Vietnam. Deuter’s two-year warranty can be claimed in any country where it authorised the sale.

Who owns Deuter
Deuter’s legal notice is direct about it: “Deuter Sport GmbH is part of Schwan-Stabilo.” The company is registered at the Augsburg Local Court under HRB 28381, with its office on Daimlerstrasse in Gersthofen and Robert Schieferle as managing director.
Schwan-STABILO’s own site describes a group with three divisions, Writing Instruments, Cosmetics and Outdoor, and lists deuter, ORTOVOX, Maier Sports and GONSO as its outdoor brands. It calls itself family-owned and managed by the sixth generation of the Schwanhäußer family, with more than 5,200 employees at 38 sites. The group is not listed on any exchange.
North Data, a mirror of the German register rather than the register itself, shows Schwanhäußer Industrie Holding GmbH & Co. KG as Deuter Sport’s shareholder “since at least 2014”, and a profit transfer agreement with Schwan-STABILO Outdoor GmbH dated February 2014. How the group came to own the brand rests on trade press: SGB Media reported on 25 September 2006 that Michael Franke, then owner of Deuter Sport, had sold the company, with its US subsidiary, to Schwan-STABILO. No filing recording that sale was read, and no stake or completion date is given.
Owner revenue is not brand revenue. In its release on the year to 30 June 2025, Schwan-STABILO reported group sales of EUR 758 million, about 5% below the EUR 797.2 million of the year before. Its Outdoor division sold EUR 188.7 million, down about 10%, but that figure covers all four outdoor brands, and Deuter’s share of it is not published. The release gives no profit figure and does not mention India. It does say Deuter has had its own UK subsidiary since 2023. On 22 September 2026 the group’s press page still showed that release as its latest results.
How Deuter reaches India
Deuter has no Indian website, and no Indian company of Deuter or Schwan-STABILO appears in anything read. Its route here is a distributor. Deuter’s “International distributors” page lists “CHOGORI INDIA RETAIL LIMITED” at an address in Sector 126, Noida, with the contact email help@adventuras.in. India is the only South Asian country on that list.
The Indian product labels agree. Adventuras product pages for two Deuter packs name Deuter Sport GmbH of Gersthofen as manufacturer and Chogori India Retail Limited, at an address in Faridabad, as importer and marketer. adventuras.in is Chogori’s own shop; its footer reads “Adventuras India – promoted by Chogori India Retail Limited”, and its About page shows Deuter’s logo beside Buff, Columbia, Julbo, Lowa and Mountain Hardwear. Its terms describe Chogori as “the sole and exclusive distributors for adventuras Sportswear Company in India”, wording that does not name Deuter.
No document read describes the arrangement as exclusive, as a licence, or as involving any shareholding, and no document read shows any ownership link between Chogori and Schwan-STABILO.
- Schwan-STABILO groupFamily-owned; Outdoor division
- Deuter Sport GmbHGersthofen; named manufacturer on Indian labels
- Duke, VietnamIndependent partner making 90% of Deuter products
- Chogori India Retail LimitedDistributor on Deuter’s list; importer and seller in India
The chain shows who is named at each step; Deuter says its factories are independent partners, and no document read gives the terms between Deuter and Chogori.
Chogori itself is an Indian public company that is not listed, incorporated in Delhi on 10 January 2008 with CIN U52599DL2008PLC172538, according to the ZaubaCorp register mirror, which shows paid-up capital of ₹5,19,12,620. A second mirror, The Company Check, reports revenue of ₹134.24 crore for the year to March 2025 and about 220 employees, and calls it a subsidiary of Chogori Retail Private Limited. The two mirrors do not match on the registered office or on the latest accounts filed: ZaubaCorp shows a balance sheet to 31 March 2023. That revenue is Chogori’s across every brand it sells, not Deuter’s.
Deuter’s Indian trade marks are held in its own name. The register mirror QuickCompany shows the DEUTER word mark, no. 1457813 in class 18 for luggage, bags and knapsacks, filed on 24 May 2006 by Deuter Sport GmbH and “valid upto 24 May 2026”. It shows no registered user, and whether the mark has been renewed since that date is not shown on the mirror.
Deuter on Myntra
Myntra’s Deuter brand filter returned 132 products on 22 September 2026. Columbia returned 2,425 in the same session, so the search was working. A sounding of 100 listings found backpacks (32), rucksacks (18), waist pouches (13), duffels (9) and sleeping bags (9). This shelf is Deuter’s core product, not a licensed side line.
The median MRP was ₹6,999 and the median price paid was also ₹6,999, or 100.0% of the tag. Only 10 of the 100 were reduced, across 41 different MRPs. Named examples included an Air Lite 24L at ₹5,999 and a Yort 15L marked down from ₹3,999 to ₹3,799.
The declarations on 40 listings were uniform. Chogori India Retail Limited was the seller of record on all 40. Every one named Deuter Sport GmbH of Daimlerstrasse 23, Gersthofen, as manufacturer, which tells you whose bag it is rather than which factory sewed it. About 35 named Chogori’s Faridabad address as importer. The country of origin was Vietnam on 38, Myanmar on one and Germany on one.
Where Deuter is made
Deuter’s manufacturing-partners page is specific. “We have been working with our backpack manufacturer, Duke, in Vietnam since 1991,” it says, adding that “Duke manufactures exclusively for deuter” and produces “90% of all deuter products” in two factories with around 4,000 employees. Sleeping bags come from High Rock in Hanoi from 2024, waterproof products from Kanaan in Indonesia since 2025, and hydration systems from HydraPak in the USA since spring 2025. Deuter describes these as independent partners and does not say it owns any factory.
Its older FAQ tells a different story: two production partners, in Vietnam and China, with sleeping bags “manufactured in China since 2003”. The two pages do not match; the partners page is the more detailed and appears the newer of the two.
The Fair Wear Foundation’s Brand Performance Check, published 19 December 2023 for the year to 30 June 2023, placed Deuter in its “Leader” category with a score of 140 out of 186. It recorded production at 21 suppliers in two countries, 95% in Vietnam and 5% in Myanmar by volume, all of it monitored. It also noted a target living wage at the main Vietnamese suppliers and a planned exit from Myanmar, and found no written contracts with suppliers setting out shared responsibility for Fair Wear’s labour code. Deuter’s own standards page says it has held Leader status every year since 2013; the report for the latest period was not read.
What Deuter costs in India
Deuter’s German shop prices include German VAT (“inkl. MwSt”). adventuras.in states “MRP Inclusive of all taxes”. Deuter article numbers have a base code and a colour code, so the table labels which pairs share a base code and which match only by name.
| Product | deuter.com Germany, € (VAT included) | adventuras.in, ₹ (taxes included) | Match |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aircontact Core 40+10 | €175.00 (3350124-2297, cactus-ivy) | ₹18,999 (3350124-4409, black) | Same base code, different colour |
| Speed Lite 21 | €80.00 (3410225) | ₹6,999 (3410222-1389, blue; sold out) | Name only; earlier Indian article |
| Futura Pro 36 | €220.00 (3401326) | ₹15,499 (3401121-1374; store feed, product page not read) | Name only; earlier Indian article |
| Futura 32 | €175.00 (3400826) | Not found on adventuras.in | None |
All prices read 22 September 2026. No currency conversion is printed.
The trekking packs on adventuras.in sit well above the Myntra median: the same store feed listed an Aircontact Lite 50+10 at ₹13,999. The Myntra figure is pulled down by daypacks, waist pouches and smaller bags, which make up much of that shelf.
Part of any Indian tag is tax. Backpacks and bags under heading 4202 carry 18% integrated GST under Notification No. 9/2025-Integrated Tax (Rate) of 17 September 2025, and that tax is inside the rupee MRP. This page prints no basic customs duty rate, because none was read from an official source, and no exchange rate was read, so it puts the prices side by side and computes no gap. For a pack bought abroad and sent home, the Budget 2026-27 cut duty on goods imported for personal use to 10% from 1 April 2026; how a courier parcel is assessed in practice is not established.
On the Myntra median of ₹6,999, Deuter sits in this site’s mid-range band for bags, ₹2,000 to ₹8,000. Its big trekking packs read on adventuras.in, at ₹13,999 to ₹18,999, fall in the premium band instead.
Two warranties, two sets of rules
Deuter’s own warranty runs “two years from the date of purchase for every deuter product” and covers material and manufacturing defects only. It excludes improper use, wear and tear, weathering and damage by third parties, and it lapses if the product is repaired by unauthorised providers or with third-party parts. On where it applies, the statement is clear: “The warranty can be claimed in all countries in which a deuter product was sold authorized by us.” India has an authorised distributor on Deuter’s list, so on that wording a Deuter bought from the authorised channel here should qualify, though Deuter does not say so for India specifically. Outside warranty it offers repairs “for a reasonable share of the costs”. Its US page mentions a lifetime repair service for incidental damage “provided repair is possible”, which is a repair offer, not a lifetime warranty.
Chogori’s own policy on adventuras.in works differently. It covers manufacturing defects for “4 years from the month of import, as mentioned on the MRP tag”, not from the day you buy. A claim needs the invoice and a photo of the MRP tag, is judged by Chogori’s quality team, and on approval ends in an exchange or a gift voucher rather than a repair, with a turnaround of two to three weeks. The policy does not name Deuter; it applies to what Chogori sells.
Deuter’s warranty follows the authorised sale, not the passport: the brand says it can be claimed in any country where it authorised the sale.
Checking a Deuter is authentic
Deuter publishes no per-item check. Its warranty, FAQ and standards pages carry no serial lookup, hologram, QR code or counterfeit guidance. That is a contrast with Tumi, which publishes a serial-number authenticity claim for its bags. The nearest thing Deuter offers is its distributor list, which names Chogori for India. There is no list of Indian shops; the Adventuras store locator showed no stores on 22 September 2026.
Read the importer line
Deuter packs read on Myntra and adventuras.in name Chogori India Retail Limited as importer. A different name is not proof of a fake, but it is a question for the seller.
Look at the origin
38 of 40 Myntra listings declared Vietnam. One declared Myanmar and one Germany; a label that names a different country is a question for the seller.
Note the import month
Chogori’s four-year cover counts from the month of import printed on the MRP tag, so an older tag means less cover left.
Keep the invoice and tag
Chogori’s warranty needs the invoice and a photo of the MRP tag, and Deuter’s applies where the sale was authorised by Deuter.
What the product claims rest on
Deuter’s German product pages name recycled polyamide fabrics, such as “210D REC PA X-GRID” and “140D REC PA RS”, without a recycled percentage or a named certifier. They describe packs as made without intentionally added PFAS, and the standards page says Deuter stopped using PFAS in manufacture in spring/summer 2019; no test house is named, so this is the brand’s own declaration.
Two outside labels do appear. Deuter says it has applied the bluesign standard since 2008 and that, “As of August 2021”, 19% of its collection held bluesign product status; the Futura 32, Speed Lite 21 and Futura Pro 36 pages carry the mark, while the Aircontact Core page does not. The same three pages show Grüner Knopf, the German government’s textile label, for which Deuter says it was certified in August 2021.
The record in India
Searches of Indian judgments for “deuter” and “Deuter Sport” on 22 September 2026 showed nothing concerning the brand; the two “deuter” results were chemistry uses of the word. The same database returned 11 results for Samsonite IP Holdings that day, so the search reaches luggage matters. Consumer commissions sit outside it, so read this as nothing found under those terms, not as a clean bill.
Who Deuter is actually for
Deuter suits a hiker or traveller who wants a technical pack with a documented supply chain and will buy from the authorised Indian channel. Our audits of the Indian brands Skybags, Safari and Wildcraft set out their own owners and prices for comparison. At ₹6,999 for a typical Myntra listing, the Deuter buyer is paying for the name, the stated materials and an outside labour audit rather than for any published durability figure.

Deuter is one of the easier bag brands to trace to an Indian shelf. The brand names its Indian distributor, the labels and Myntra declarations name the same company, and the origin on almost every listing matches the Vietnamese maker Deuter itself names. An outside labour audit rated it a Fair Wear Leader, while noting no written contracts with suppliers on shared responsibility.
The gaps are in the detail. Deuter’s own sales are folded into a four-brand divisional figure, no document read sets out the terms with Chogori, and the Indian warranty on adventuras.in ends in an exchange or voucher, counted from the import month. Deuter’s own two-year warranty should reach an authorised Indian purchase, but the brand does not say so for India in terms.
A well-documented mid-range pack, best bought through the channel Deuter names, with the invoice and MRP tag kept.
