kate spade new york is an American handbag brand owned by Tapestry, Inc., the New York-listed company that also owns Coach. It has been sold in India since 2016 through Reliance Brands Limited, and publishes no Indian website of its own.
Two readings taken on 23 September 2026 sit oddly together. Tapestry’s annual filing names four countries where Kate Spade bags are made, and India is not among them, though India is named in the same filing’s Coach sentence. On Myntra the same day, 39 of 40 Kate Spade records named one small Delhi company as seller of record and a second as importer.
Kate Spade belongs to Tapestry, Inc., which reported the brand’s own sales as US$1,074.9 million for the year ended 27 June 2026, down 10%. In India it reaches shoppers through Reliance Brands Limited, named as marketer and importer on every AJIO Luxe listing read on 23 September 2026 under what a 2016 release called a long-term distribution and retail licence. A separate Myntra shelf of 172 listings runs through two small Delhi companies instead, and the house publishes no way to check that a bag is real.

Who owns the brand
Kate Spade LLC is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tapestry, Inc., a Delaware company listed in New York. Tapestry’s subsidiary list, filed on 13 August 2026, names Kate Spade companies in the United States, Puerto Rico, Macau, Hong Kong, mainland China and Taiwan, and none in India. Such a list is filed to a threshold, so that absence is not proof.
- Liz Claiborne, Inc.Incorporated in Delaware, January 1976
- Fifth & Pacific Companies, Inc.Renamed on or about 15 May 2012
- Kate Spade & CompanyRenamed 25 February 2014, ticker KATE
- Coach, Inc.Bought the company, 11 July 2017
- Tapestry, Inc.Coach renamed itself, 31 October 2017
The company that carried the brand changed its name three times before it was sold, which is why old filings appear under other names. Coach announced the purchase on 8 May 2017 at US$18.50 a share in cash, a transaction value of US$2.4 billion.
Tapestry publishes the brand’s own revenue, which is more than most owners of a luxury label do. For the year ended 27 June 2026 the group reported net sales of US$8,004.2 million and net income of US$1,527.7 million. Kate Spade’s share was US$1,074.9 million, down 10% from US$1,197.1 million in FY2025 and US$1,334.4 million in FY2024, on a segment operating loss of US$10.0 million.
The year before was heavier. Tapestry’s FY2025 results release records “$855 million in impairment charges on the indefinite-lived brand intangible asset and goodwill for Kate Spade”, charges that “resulted from a decline in both current and future expected cash flows, which included an estimated impact of cost increases due to changes in tariff and trade policies”. The FY2026 release’s reconciliation tables carry the same prior-year charge as US$854.8 million; both were read on 23 September 2026, and this page prints both figures. No new Kate Spade impairment was identified for FY2026.
How the brand reaches India
There is no Indian website. katespade.in does not resolve, so the brand publishes no Indian terms page, seller line or grievance officer of its own. Its locator offers American states and five Canadian provinces, and the site’s International Stores page shows no results, which is why this audit prints no Indian store count.
What does exist is a named Indian partner. On 1 March 2016 Kate Spade & Company and Reliance Brands Limited announced the arrangement in a joint release, worded there as a long-term distribution and retail licence agreement with exclusive distribution rights. That is the 2016 wording, and nothing read since restates the arrangement type, so take it as the description the two gave then.
- 1 Mar 2016Joint release names a distribution and retail licence
- 13 Oct 2021Indian Retailer reports a third India store, Mumbai
- 6 Jan 2025Apparel Resources reports a Bengaluru store opening
- 23 Sep 2026AJIO Luxe labels name Reliance Brands as importer
The middle two are dated trade reports, not filings; the label is the current document.
The last item is the useful one. Every Kate Spade handbag listing read on AJIO Luxe, the Reliance-owned luxury site, on 23 September 2026 carried “Marketed By: RELIANCE BRANDS LIMITED, 10th Floor, Maker Tower ‘E Maker Arcade, Cuffe Parade, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400005”, and named the same company on the “Imported By” line — a dated, self-declared statement of who brings the bags in and answers for them.
Reliance Brands Limited is an operating company, not a buying office: the register mirror gives its incorporation as 25 September 2007 and its paid-up capital as ₹21,303,845,200, over ₹2,130 crore, against a wholesale activity code. That is what the mirror carries, not the filed accounts. The same group’s retail arm is covered in our Reliance Trends audit; a licence to distribute is not a shareholding, and nothing read gives Reliance a stake in Kate Spade or Tapestry a stake in Reliance. Its AJIO Luxe store showed 814 Kate Spade items on 23 September 2026, 130 of them handbags.
The Myntra shelf, and who is selling
Myntra carries a separate Kate Spade shelf: 172 listings at the brand facet on 23 September 2026, 114 of them handbags. A sounding of 100 gave a median MRP of ₹32,000 and a median paid price of ₹22,990, which is 71.8% of MRP, with 97 reduced that day. A Leather Half Moon Sling showed ₹40,000 down to ₹29,990, a Sling Bag ₹32,000 down to ₹22,990.
Of 40 records read in full, Darveys Global Store Private Limited was named as seller of record on 39 and NR Wardrobe Fuss Private Limited as importer on 39. Both are Delhi companies of a size worth stating plainly. Darveys Global Store was incorporated on 19 March 2018 at 32 Ishwar Nagar, Mathura Road, with paid-up capital of ₹1,00,000, CIN U52609DL2018PTC331151. NR Wardrobe Fuss was incorporated on 5 November 2013 at B-6/9 Okhla Industrial Area Phase 2, same ₹1,00,000 of paid-up capital, CIN U51101DL2013PTC259910. The register lists the same two directors for both companies.
The fortieth record named a different seller. A company called Shreyash Retail Private Limited owns a registered trade mark reading “Supercom Net”, and the marketplace names “Supercom Net” as seller of record on 1 of 40 listings read on 23 September 2026; no document read links Shreyash Retail to the brand.
Those are register facts and label facts, and this page draws nothing further from them; the declarations say what they say. Kate Spade publishes no list of authorised Indian sellers and declines to identify its distributors at all, so nothing read establishes that these listings are authorised, or that they are not. What a buyer can act on is firmer: on that shelf the company answerable for the goods is an importer with ₹1 lakh of capital, not the house and not Reliance.
Where the bags are made
This is the most checkable fact on the page, because the owner writes it down for two brands in one document. Tapestry’s FY2026 annual filing says: “During fiscal 2026, Kate Spade products were manufactured primarily in Vietnam, Cambodia, the Philippines and Bangladesh and no individual vendor provided 10% or more of the brand’s total inventory purchases.” The Coach sentence in the same filing reads the same way but ends differently: “Vietnam, Cambodia, the Philippines and India”. India is in the Coach sentence and not in the Kate Spade one.
The Indian listings read the same way. Of 40 Myntra records taken on 23 September 2026, 35 declared Cambodia, two the Philippines, and one each France, Vietnam and the United States. On AJIO Luxe that day the Do It All Tote declared Vietnam, the Halo Crossbody Bangladesh and the Gramercy Medium Satchel Cambodia. Anyone told in a shop that a Kate Spade bag is Indian-made has a filing and a label to check against.
Tapestry owns no factories for this brand. Its filing states that products “are manufactured by independent manufacturers”, with quality monitored “through on-site quality inspections at independent manufacturing facilities”, and describes “longstanding relationships with purveyors of fine leathers and hardware” without naming a tannery, a rating or a certifier. The product pages read the same way: “smooth leather” on the American page for the Do It All Tote, “fine grain leather” on the Indian listing for the same bag, “Genuine Leather” on the Gramercy. No standard, grade or test is attached to any of those words.
What Kate Spade costs in India
Both sides below are printed raw, as each page showed them on 23 September 2026. This audit converts nothing and computes no gap: the American page states no tax basis while the Indian one states that its MRP includes tax, so the two are not measuring the same thing.
| Bag | katespade.com, United States | India | Origin declared in India |
|---|---|---|---|
| Do It All Tote, style KO166 | US$298; no tax basis stated on the page | AJIO Luxe ₹22,000, MRP ₹27,500 “inclusive of all taxes” | Vietnam |
| Halo Crossbody, KM429 in the United States | US$198; no tax basis stated | AJIO Luxe ₹21,999, stated as MRP inclusive of all taxes | Bangladesh |
| Gramercy Medium Satchel, style K9914 | Not on sale on the American site that day | AJIO Luxe MRP ₹39,500 inclusive of all taxes | Cambodia |
| Myntra sounding, 100 listings | — | Median MRP ₹32,000, median paid ₹22,990 | Cambodia on 35 of 40 records |
Prices and declarations read on 23 September 2026 from katespade.com, AJIO Luxe and Myntra.
Two cautions travel with that table. The Halo pair is matched by product name only, because the Indian listing publishes no style code, so it is not a code-for-code match the way the Do It All Tote is. And the Indian assortment is not the American one: the Gramercy did not appear on katespade.com that day, so a comparison has to be made bag by bag.
On tax and duty, two things are settled enough to print. Bags and cases under heading 4202 carry IGST at 18%, per Notification No. 9/2025-Integrated Tax (Rate) of 17 September 2025, and for a bag brought in for personal use the Budget 2026-27 annexure cuts the rate to 10% from 1 April 2026. This page prints no basic customs duty rate and no landed-cost arithmetic.
Indian bag makers such as VIP Industries and Safari sell through their own Indian channels at their own published prices, which is a different proposition. On the Indian selling prices above — MRP ₹27,500 on the tote, a Myntra median MRP of ₹32,000 — Kate Spade lands in this site’s Premium band for bags, ₹8,000 to ₹40,000, rather than the Luxury band above ₹40,000.
Checking a bag is real
Kate Spade’s Brand Protection page is short and unusually direct. It says counterfeiting is illegal and that counterfeit products “do not undergo inspection processes and often do not adhere to safety, health and wage regulations”. It names where real goods are sold: “Authentic Kate Spade products are sold by Kate Spade retail and outlet stores and online at www.katespade.com, www.katespadeoutlet.com or at authorized department stores and specialty stores.” Then it closes the door on the two questions an Indian buyer most needs answered.
We do not respond to requests to authenticate product or identify authorized distributors.
Nothing else of that kind sits on the brand’s site: no serial-number lookup, no hologram, no QR code, no chip and no digital product passport. That cuts both ways. No list of authorised Indian sellers is published by the house, so no seller can be called authorised or unauthorised on its authority. Treat any stitch-count or lining test offered as brand guidance with care; the brand publishes none.
Read the declaration before you pay
Indian listings carry an importer, a marketer and a country of origin. On AJIO Luxe that line named Reliance Brands Limited; on Myntra, a Delhi importer with ₹1 lakh of capital. Not the same purchase.
Match the style code
The house prints a style number such as KO166 or K9914. Where an Indian listing shows one, put it against the American product page; where it shows none, as on the Halo Crossbody, you are matching only a name.
The one-year handbag warranty covers manufacturing defects, not normal wear and tear, and the page says nothing about where the bag was bought. Get the seller to state in writing who honours it in India before you pay.
The record in India
A search of Indian Kanoon on 23 September 2026 under “kate spade” listed a single result, a dispute between two Indian companies that is not a Kate Spade matter; “katespade” showed nothing. No decided Indian court matter naming a Kate Spade company as a party appeared under those terms. That result is earned rather than assumed: the same database, the same day, listed 304 matters for “Louis Vuitton Malletier”, so it does carry this kind of case when one exists.
The limits matter as much as the result. Indian Kanoon does not carry every decided matter, this is a statement about three search terms on one day rather than a verdict on the brand, and nobody has ruled on any of the Indian arrangements described above. The Indian trade-mark register was not readable in this pass, its public search now opening on a sign-in screen that asks for a one-time password, so this page names no proprietor of the KATE SPADE mark in India and claims no register result either way.
Who Kate Spade is actually for
It suits a buyer who wants an American designer handbag at Premium money rather than Luxury money, bought from AJIO Luxe or a Reliance counter, where the importer is a company with over ₹2,130 crore of paid-up capital and a Mumbai address. The leathers are described without grades, but the price is set in rupees with tax included. Readers arriving from our Zara or Uniqlo audits should note this is a different order of price for one bag.
It suits a marketplace bargain hunter much less well. The discounts are real — 97 of 100 listings reduced, a median of 71.8% of MRP — but the counterparty is a small importer, the house will not authenticate anything, and the warranty page is silent on Indian purchases. That is a trade a reader can make with open eyes.
Common questions
Is there a Kate Spade store in India?
The brand’s own store locator lists United States and Canadian locations only, and its International Stores page shows no results, so this page prints no Indian store count. Dated trade reports describe store openings in Mumbai in October 2021 and Bengaluru in January 2025, both under the Reliance Brands arrangement.
Who imports Kate Spade bags into India?
It depends on the shop. Every AJIO Luxe listing read on 23 September 2026 named Reliance Brands Limited as both marketer and importer. On Myntra the same day, 39 of 40 records named NR Wardrobe Fuss Private Limited as importer and Darveys Global Store Private Limited as seller of record.
Are Kate Spade bags made in India?
Not according to the owner. Tapestry’s filing for the year ended 27 June 2026 names Vietnam, Cambodia, the Philippines and Bangladesh for Kate Spade, and names India only in its Coach sentence. Of 40 Indian listings read, 35 declared Cambodia.
Will Kate Spade tell me if my bag is real?
No. Its Brand Protection page states that it does not respond to requests to authenticate product or identify authorised distributors, and it publishes no serial lookup, hologram or QR check. Your protection is the invoice, the declaration block and the style code.
Do these terms cover a Kate Spade watch?
No. Watches are a licensed category, carrying a separate two-year international warranty administered by Fossil Group Services. Nothing in the handbag warranty or the Brand Protection wording above applies to them, and this audit does not cover them.
Does the warranty cover a bag bought on a marketplace?
The page does not say. It gives one year on handbags against manufacturing defects, excludes normal wear and tear, and requires proof of purchase, without stating any country scope. Ask the seller who services it in India before buying.

Kate Spade is one of the more readable luxury names in India, and the reason is its owner. Tapestry publishes the brand’s own revenue — US$1,074.9 million for the year to 27 June 2026, down 10% — where most groups bury a label inside a division, and names where the bags are made in a sentence a shopper can check against the box. At MRP ₹27,500 for the Do It All Tote it sits in the Premium band rather than pretending to be more.
The scepticism belongs at two edges. The house refuses to authenticate a bag or name its authorised distributors, leaving an Indian buyer with an invoice and a style code as the only checks available. And the marketplace shelf is a different purchase from the Reliance one: on 39 of 40 Myntra records read on 23 September 2026 the importer was a Delhi company with ₹1 lakh of paid-up capital, and the one-year warranty page says nothing about a bag bought in India.
A well-documented American brand with a properly documented Indian importer — as long as you buy the one that comes with the Mumbai address on the label.
