Kompanero is a Kolkata leather-bag brand sold by the company that makes it. ASG Kompanero Limited, known until recently as ASG Leather Private Limited, runs the brand’s website and shops, and credit-rating agencies describe it as a manufacturer and exporter of leather bags and wallets with its own factories and tanneries.
That makes it unusual on an Indian bag shelf. On Myntra on 22 September 2026, every one of the 40 Kompanero listings read named the same company as seller, the same company as maker and India as the country of origin — and not one of its 56 listings was reduced.
Kompanero is an Indian brand, made and sold by its own unlisted Kolkata company, and all 40 Myntra declarations read gave India as the origin. Its warranty page matches what its product page promises: two years on bags. The leather wording varies by page — “full-grain” on the homepage, “top grain” on one tote — and the “eco-friendly” tanning line names no certifier.

Who owns Kompanero
The company behind the brand is ASG Kompanero Limited. Its corporate identity number is a short biography: U for unlisted, 1911 for the tanning and dressing of leather, WB for West Bengal, 2002 for the year, and PLC for a public company that has not listed its shares. The earlier form of the same number ended in PTC, the mark of an ordinary private company. It has never been FTC, the suffix a foreign subsidiary carries.
- ASG Leather Private LimitedIncorporated 27 December 2002, Kolkata
- ASG Kompanero Private LimitedRenamed; same registration number, 095565
- ASG Kompanero LimitedNow a public company, still unlisted
The names changed; nothing read records a change of owner. The register mirrors do not give the dates of either change.
The register mirror Zauba Corp gives the incorporation date as 27 December 2002, the status as active and the paid-up capital as ₹9,30,35,800. The maker’s own business site, asgleather.com, says the company “was incorporated in 1999”. The rating agencies Acuité and Crisil both use 2002, which is the date printed above.
Crisil names “Mr. Alok Kumar Sengupta” as the promoter. Acuité’s report of 26 September 2024 lists the company’s directors.
No annual return listing the shareholders was read, so no stake is printed here. No sale, merger or outside funding round appears in any source read. The brand is the manufacturer’s own retail label rather than a licence: Crisil says the company sells through retail outlets under “its own brand, Kompanero”.
The trade mark tells the same story. A register mirror shows application 2708079, “Kompanero (Device)”, in class 18 for leather goods, filed on 27 March 2014 by “Asg Leather Private” at the Kolkata Leather Complex address. It is shown as registered and renewed to 27 March 2034. The mark holder and the seller are one company.
The money, and what it covers
The only year-by-year figures come from Acuité’s rating reports, not from filed accounts read directly.
| Year to 31 March | Operating income | Profit after tax | Where the figure comes from |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | ₹125.98 crore | ₹2.51 crore | Acuité rating reports, September and December 2024 |
| 2024 | ₹123.24 crore, provisional | ₹2.61 crore | Same reports |
Acuité Ratings, rationales of 26 September and 2 December 2024. Rating-agency figures, not the filed financial statements.
These are the whole company’s figures, and the company also makes bags for export. No figure for the Kompanero brand on its own is published, so treat ₹123 crore as the maker’s size, not the brand’s sales.
Who makes Kompanero bags
Here the brand and the maker are the same name. Every Kompanero product page read on 22 September 2026 carried the line “Manufactured & Marketed By: ASG KOMPANERO LTD. Leather Complex Bantala, Kolkata” and “Country of Origin: IN”. Acuité’s December 2024 report describes “three leather goods manufacturing units and two tanneries in Kolkata”.
The company’s own business site gives more detail in its own words: facilities “spread across more than 250,000 Sq. ft.”, “more than 1200 people”, and exports to “Spain, Germany, Italy, Denmark, Austria, USA, Canada, Australia, Japan”. It says it makes bags for “clients across the globe” and names none of them. It also calls itself an “ISO certified company with SA8000”, without a certificate number or a certifying body beside either.
The Myntra declarations bear this out. We read 40 of the 56 Kompanero records on 22 September 2026 — the Legal Metrology block that names the company answerable for the goods and the country of origin.
| Field on the declaration | What the 40 records named |
|---|---|
| Seller of record | ASG Leather Private Limited, 40 of 40 |
| Manufacturer | ASG Kompanero Limited, 903 Basanti…, 37; ASG Leather Pvt Ltd, 3 |
| Country of origin | India, 40 of 40 |
Myntra product records for Kompanero, read 22 September 2026.
The seller line carries the company’s former name on all 40 records, and the manufacturer line carries the current name on 37. The brand’s own terms of service also name “ASG Leather Private Ltd”, while its footer, privacy policy and warranty policy name ASG Kompanero Limited. These are one company under its old and new names, at one address.
The name on the brand, the name on the factory and the name on the seller line all lead back to one registration number in Kolkata.
On the 40 records read, Kompanero had no third-party seller at all. A bag made in India also pays no import duty, so duty plays no part in its price.
The name, and where the brand says it is from
The product pages spell the name with a tilde, “Kompañero”, and say it “means companion, our leather bags are your constant companion for life”. The homepage uses the plain spelling throughout and says the bags are “handcrafted by artisans in India”. It mentions no European country.
Set beside the declarations, the wording and the labels point the same way. Every label read names a Kolkata manufacturer and India as the origin, and the brand’s own copy names India as the place of making. The only foreign word on the pages read is the name itself.
What the leather claims rest on
Kompanero sells on its leather. We read the homepage and four product pages on 22 September 2026 and set each claim beside what the same page names in support.
| Claim, in the brand’s words | Where | Standard or certifier named |
|---|---|---|
| “Full-grain, vegetable-tanned leather bags, wallets and travel gear” | Homepage | None |
| “We use top grain genuine leather only”; “Cow Saten mini pebble leather” | Twilight tote page | An LWG-rated tannery is mentioned; the tannery is not named |
| “Made of Eco-Friendly Vegetable Tanning” | Chicago duffle page | None |
| “Full grain leather that’s engineered to look even better in a year than today” | Homepage and Marco portfolio page | None; the Marco page states no tannage |
| “1 Million+ bags around the world” | Homepage | No basis given for the count |
kompanero.in homepage and product pages, read 22 September 2026.
The homepage describes the range as “full-grain” and “vegetable-tanned”. The Twilight tote’s page says “top grain” and describes a pebble leather. Full-grain and top-grain are different grades in the leather trade, so the product page is the description to read for a given bag.
The Twilight page also says its leather was sourced from a tannery rated by the Leather Working Group, an industry audit body for tanneries, without naming the tannery. The Chicago duffle’s page does not name a standard for its “eco-friendly” tanning. None of the pages read makes a vegan claim, so every bag read is sold as leather.
Read the grade on the page you are buying from
The homepage says full-grain for the range; one tote page says top grain. The product page is the description that applies to that bag.
Look at the seller line
On Myntra, ASG Leather Private Limited — the brand’s own company under its former name — was the seller on 40 of 40 listings read.
Keep the bill
A warranty claim needs the warranty card or the bill of purchase, sent to ecommerce@kompanero.in.
The warranty: what is promised and what is published
The product page for one handbag, read on 22 September 2026, said: “Covered by our 2-year manufacturer warranty, backed by 15-day returns. A mate for life.” Other product pages call the bags “your constant companion for life”, and the homepage offers returns “within 15 days of delivery”.
The published warranty policy, which names ASG Kompanero Limited, gives bags and accessories two years, trolleys three years and footwear three months. It covers manufacturing defects in material and workmanship, hardware included — “locks, studs, screws, buckles, straps” — at no charge within the term.
The exclusions are spelt out. “Damage/stains caused by water, heat, oil, pen marks or other cosmetic damages” are chargeable, marks and texture variations in leather count as characteristics rather than defects, and bags “previously repaired by external services” are not accepted. The policy does not say who pays to ship a bag for repair. Out-of-warranty repair is offered “at a charge”.
Put side by side, the promise and the policy match. The product page says two years and the policy says two years for bags. The “for life” lines are slogans, not terms, and the page does not present them as a warranty.
What Kompanero costs in India
Kompanero has no foreign shop that we found, so there is no overseas price to compare. The comparison that matters is between its own site and Myntra.
| Bag on kompanero.in | Higher figure shown crossed out | Price charged |
|---|---|---|
| Twilight – The Tote Bag, Tan | ₹14,997 | ₹8,998, shown as 40% off |
| Chicago – Duffle Bag, Cognac | ₹20,997 | ₹12,598, shown as 40% off |
| Marco – The Portfolio, Cognac | None shown | ₹19,998 |
kompanero.in product pages, read 22 September 2026; prices shown as inclusive of all taxes.
On Myntra the same day the picture was different. The whole Kompanero shelf, 56 listings, had a median MRP of ₹6,999 and a median price paid of ₹6,999 — every listing at its full MRP, none reduced, across 24 distinct MRPs. Handbags made up 27 listings, wallets 15 and messenger bags 8.
The two readings are not like for like, because the Myntra shelf leans to handbags and wallets while the site bags above are larger pieces. But they show two different habits: the brand’s own shop marks its bags down from a higher crossed-out figure, while its own company sells on Myntra at the printed MRP.
Other Indian bag labels read the same day on Myntra sold well below MRP: Hidesign at 49.7% of MRP, Caprese at 51.8% and Da Milano at 72.7%. Of the Indian bag labels read that day, Kompanero and Eske were the only two with no listing reduced.
The price band here is Mid-range, computed from the ₹6,999 median paid across the whole Myntra shelf, which is mostly handbags and wallets. The larger bags on the brand’s own site sell for more than that, from ₹8,998 to ₹19,998 on the three read.
Buying safely
No way to check a specific bag is published — no code, hologram, QR or verification page on the homepage, product pages, store locator, disclaimer or warranty policy read on 22 September 2026. There is no list of authorised sellers either, though such lists exist elsewhere: Bose publishes one. The store locator lists 16 shops in nine cities, six of them in Bengaluru.
The practical safeguard is the seller line and the declaration. On the 40 Myntra records read, both named the brand’s own company, under one name or the other, with a Kolkata address.
A search of Indian Kanoon, the public case-law database, on 22 September 2026 for “ASG Leather” and “Kompanero” showed no consumer, trade-mark, Legal Metrology or product-quality judgment concerning the company’s goods. Only those two terms were searched, so read the result as nothing found rather than a promise that nothing exists.
Who Kompanero is actually for
Kompanero suits a buyer who wants a leather bag made in India by a company that owns its factories and puts its own name on the seller line. It also suits a buyer who wants a warranty that says what the product page says.
A buyer paying for a specific leather grade or an environmental standard should check the individual product page, as the wording varies between the homepage and one product page. Anyone weighing it against the Indian bag and luggage companies audited here, such as VIP Industries, Safari and Wildcraft, should put the same two questions to each: who is named on the declaration, and what does the published warranty actually cover.
Common questions
Is Kompanero an Indian brand?
Yes. It is sold by ASG Kompanero Limited, a Kolkata company incorporated on 27 December 2002, and all 40 Myntra listings read on 22 September 2026 declared India as the country of origin.
Is Kompanero a Spanish or European brand?
No document read says so. The product pages spell the name “Kompañero” and say it means companion; the labels name a Kolkata manufacturer and India as the origin, and the homepage says “handcrafted by artisans in India”.
Who makes Kompanero bags?
The brand’s own company. Product pages say “Manufactured & Marketed By: ASG KOMPANERO LTD.” in Kolkata, and Acuité describes three manufacturing units and two tanneries there. On Myntra, 37 of 40 records named ASG Kompanero Limited and three its former name.
What is the Kompanero warranty?
Two years on bags and accessories, three years on trolleys and three months on footwear, for manufacturing defects. Water, heat, oil, pen marks and other cosmetic damage are chargeable.
Why is the Myntra seller called ASG Leather?
ASG Leather Private Limited is the company’s former name. The register carries one registration number under both names, so the seller on Myntra and the brand’s company are the same.

Kompanero is about as answerable as a bag brand gets. One Kolkata company holds the trade mark, owns the factories, prints its name on the label and was the seller on all 40 Myntra listings read, with India declared every time. Its two-year warranty on bags is the same on the product page and in the policy, and on Myntra it sold at full MRP, a median of ₹6,999, rather than off a permanent markdown.
The leather wording is worth reading closely. The homepage says “full-grain” and “vegetable-tanned”, one tote says “top grain”, and the pages read do not name a standard for the “eco-friendly” tanning or the tannery behind the cited rating. The ₹123 crore behind it is the whole manufacturer, exports included, not the brand.
Buy it for a made-in-India leather bag from the company that makes it, with a warranty that says what it promises — and read the grade on the product page, not the homepage.
