Global Desi Brand Audit: Who Owns It, and What It Costs in India

Ochre and Black Private Limited is the declared manufacturer on 117 of 120 Myntra records read and the seller of record on 100. No shareholding pattern was readable for it or its parent at any date, so no ownership percentage is given.

Global Desi and Aurelia hang on the same rails, at the same money, for the same shopper. It is easy to assume they belong together. They do not: Aurelia’s seller of record is a listed Aditya Birla company, and Global Desi’s is Ochre and Black Private Limited, an unlisted Navi Mumbai firm incorporated in December 2018.

That company is the cleanest thing about this brand. The awkward part sits above it, where the only account of who owns what comes from a rating agency rather than any filing.

The short answer

There is a company behind this brand and it is easy to find. Ochre and Black Private Limited, CIN U18209MH2018PTC318048, is the declared manufacturer on 117 of 120 Myntra records read in full and the seller of record on 100, and the brand’s own site names it in its footer.

ICRA records that the AND and Global Desi businesses were transferred to it by a board decision of the House of Anita Dongre Private Limited on 28 March 2019, and describes the group in 2025 and 2026 as wholly owned by the promoters and their families. No shareholding pattern was readable for either company, so no percentage is given here at any date.

Price: 685 of 688 Myntra listings read on 7 September 2026, 76.2% reduced, 53.3% of MRP in aggregate, median charged ₹1,345. The brand’s own store is the dearest of the three channels.

Who owns Global Desi

Ochre and Black Private Limited, the company that answers for the clothes, was incorporated on 10 December 2018 with the Registrar of Companies in Mumbai, is private, active and unlisted, and sits in the Rabale industrial area of Navi Mumbai. The brand’s footer carries “© 2024 Ochre and Black Private Limited”, and its careers page names the company again, as does that of AND, the sibling brand.

How it came to hold the brand is ICRA’s account, not a document filed with the registrar. Its rating rationale of 9 January 2026 says: “On March 28, 2019, the board of HOADPL… transferred the businesses under its two brands, ‘AND’ and ‘Global Desi’ to a newly formed wholly-owned subsidiary, Ochre and Black Private Limited.” Its rationale of 31 January 2024 puts it the same way, and adds that the parent became a private limited company in January 2020.

Where the brand sits, as ICRA records it
  1. AND Designs India LimitedIncorporated 14 March 1995, Registrar of Companies Mumbai
  2. House of Anita Dongre Private LimitedRenamed July 2015; converted to private limited January 2020
  3. Ochre and Black Private LimitedIncorporated 10 December 2018; the two brands transferred 28 March 2019

Both companies share that one address. Nothing read here establishes who signed the 2019 transfer, or on what terms.

Two mirrors of the register carry the rest of the detail and disagree on almost all of it, so both stand and neither is picked. Neither is the filing itself.

What the register shows First mirror Second mirror
Authorised capital ₹2,75,00,000 ₹2.65 crore
Paid-up capital ₹1,50,33,560 ₹1.50 crore
Deepikesh Vinod Hira, appointed 30 September 2019 29 July 2019
Yash Pravin Dongre, appointed 30 October 2020 3 February 2020
Dhawal Rajendra Bhathawala, appointed 27 July 2023 4 July 2023

Both read 7 September 2026. Three charges are registered in favour of HDFC Bank, the largest ₹70 crore in 2019.

The private-equity question, and why the answer is nothing

Global Desi is often described as private-equity backed, and the record will not carry it either way. Two sentences from the same rating agency sit side by side. ICRA, 31 January 2024: “Moreover, General Atlantic PE has nominated directors on the board of HOADPL whose experience is an asset for the company.” ICRA, 5 February 2025 and again on 9 January 2026: “The Group is wholly owned by the promoters, their relatives and family members.”

What happened in between rests on trade press alone. Apparel Resources reported on 19 November 2024 that the parent was repurchasing a stake of nearly 40% held by General Atlantic; FashionNetwork India, a day later and citing ET Bureau, put the original investment at close to ₹150 crore in 2015 for an initial 23%. Those are reports — no agreement, company statement or filing was found. General Atlantic’s own investments page still carried the company on 7 September 2026, giving the year invested as 2013 with no exit date and no stake, and a portfolio page lists what a firm has done rather than what it holds.

So no shareholding figure exists here for either company at any date, which is why this page files the brand as independent and names General Atlantic in the body instead. Set it against Biba, read the same week: there a draft prospectus sets the register out line by line, at 33.93% private equity against a family-controlled 64.75%. One answer comes from a filing that says minority; this one comes from the absence of any filing at all.

Is there a company behind the brand?

On a marketplace this is answerable per listing, because the declared manufacturer and the seller of record sit on the same record. Across 120 Global Desi listings read in full on 7 September 2026, Ochre and Black was a seller on 100 and the first-named seller on 82; Supercom Net appeared on 62, and 42 listings carry both. On the manufacturer line, 117 of the 120 name Ochre and Black.

Compare a name with nothing behind it. Anouk, read the same week, gave 207 declared manufacturers and 167 sellers across 450 listings, with the platform’s own company on none. Myntra’s records also carry an attribute marking a brand as one of the shop’s house of brands; on all 120 Global Desi records it is off, against a control brand carrying it on 15 of 15 the same afternoon. That is the platform’s classification of its own catalogue and not a trade-mark record, so the ownership account above rests on ICRA and the register instead.

What Global Desi costs in India

Across 685 of the 688 Myntra listings, read one at a time on 7 September 2026, 522 were reduced below MRP (76.2%) and 163 sat at MRP. In aggregate the catalogue charged 53.3% of MRP, on a median MRP of ₹2,999 and a median charged price of ₹1,345. The median reduction was 70%, the deepest 79%.

MRP is a ceiling and not a price, so the ladder tells you more than the average. Those 685 listings carry 89 distinct MRPs and 45 discount percentages from 2% to 79%, with 33 gaps — nothing at all between 12% and 19%. The two Aditya Birla brands beside it have no gaps: Aurelia reads every whole number from 1% to 67%, W for Woman every one from 1% to 69%. Two brands pricing garment by garment, and this one pricing off rungs.

Its own store prices off fewer rungs still, and never uses the word MRP. globaldesi.in prints a struck-through “original” price, a selling price and a label such as “50% Off”. The words “MRP” and “inclusive of all taxes” appear nowhere on the product pages read in full, so nothing on that channel is called a percentage off MRP here. The struck figure is the site’s own original price, and nothing makes it a maximum retail price.

Where Listings read Reduced Charged, as % of the higher published price Median charged Reduction rungs
Myntra 685 of 688 76.2% 53.3% of MRP ₹1,345 45, from 2% to 79%, with 33 gaps
Ajio 297 of 314 77.8% 55.1% of MRP ₹1,990 12, from 30% to 76%
globaldesi.in 499 61.3% 65.2% of a struck price the site does not call an MRP ₹2,495 4: 50%, 70%, 30% and one at 53%

All read 7 September 2026. Four Tata CLiQ listings were read in full and all four were reduced, but four is too small to draw a direction from.

Four reduction percentages across 499 products is the coarsest grid this site has recorded — 262 listings at 50%, 32 at 70%, 11 at 30% and one at 53%, against 45 rungs on the same brand’s marketplace catalogue the same day. Beside Urbanic‘s seven, it is barely a ladder. It is also the dearest of the three shops by about twelve points, which runs the opposite way to Aurelia, whose own store is about eight points cheaper than Myntra.

One more thing on that site. Its Sale collection headed “EOSS — upto 50% off” held 402 products, 265 of which also appear in the 499-item View All. H&M, read the day before, kept sale and main catalogue as separate sets with no overlap at all; here they overlap by two-thirds. And 32 of the 499 listings sit at 70% off inside a section the site’s own navigation labels as up to 50%.

A countdown with no beginning

Of those 120 Myntra records, 105 carried a discount and all 105 carried a label reading “OFFER ENDS IN”. On every one the field holding the offer’s start time reads zero: an end, and no beginning. They hold 68 distinct end times between them, all between 2.41 am and 3.20 am the next morning — a 39-minute window, nine and a half to ten hours after the reading.

Beside that, a coupon dated 10 and 11 October 2026 sat on 95 of the first 100 listings. It is not a Global Desi habit: the same coupon sat that afternoon on 100 of 100 W for Woman listings, 99 Aurelia, 98 Soch, 96 Biba and 93 Libas. It distinguishes nothing, and matters for what it sits next to.

Five brands, four owners, one clock — and every clock runs out between two and three in the morning.

Uniqlo, read the day before, showed the exact mirror: sale flags with a start date and no end date at all. Both describe the same thing, so treat the reduced number as the ordinary price. Bank offers ran on every Myntra listing, making every figure above a floor.

Who is answerable for a Global Desi garment

A retail package must name the manufacturer or packer with an address, the country of origin, the net quantity and a price inclusive of all taxes. That block names who is legally answerable for the goods, not who sewed the garment.

This is the tidiest answer on the shelf. All 30 product pages read on globaldesi.in carry one string: “Ochre & Black Private Limited, Plot No R 847/1/1, TTC Ind. Area, MIDC, Rabale, Navi Mumbai, India – 400701.” One entity, one address, one spelling. Myntra has nine strings across 120 records, of which 117 name the same company in five spellings — 66 as “Ochre And Black Pvt. Ltd”, 47 as “Ochre & Black Private Limited” — and 119 carry that same address. Aurelia, the same day, gave 64 strings across 120 records.

Where Declarations read Manufacturer strings Origin Net quantity Style code
Myntra 120 9, of which 117 name Ochre and Black India 120 of 120 not published not published
globaldesi.in 30 1 India 27 of 30 0 of 30 30 of 30
Tata CLiQ 1 read in full 1, given as both manufacturer and importer India — —

All read 7 September 2026. Fabric percentage composition appears on 30 of 30 pages on the brand’s own site, better than most of this shelf manages.

Two exceptions, printed as read. Two of the 120 Myntra records name “House of Anita Dongre Limited” in the manufacturer line, at that same address. ICRA records that the parent was converted into a private limited company in January 2020. Two facts side by side, and nothing joins them here. Separately, Myntra’s origin facet returns China on two of the 688 listings: both were opened, both are shoulder bags, and both declare “BRAND CONCEPTS PVT LTD, Imported by Brand Concepts” at an Indore address, with a third-party seller. Facet and written declaration agree. What connects Brand Concepts to Ochre and Black is not established.

The gaps are the usual ones. Net quantity appears on none of the 30 pages read on the brand’s own site, and no “marketed by” line either. Fabric weight in grams per square metre appears on none of the 154 declarations read across three shops — eighteen clothing brands, and not one publishes it.

Two shops could not be counted. Tata CLiQ’s brand page for Global Desi, and three spellings of the name, returned the shop’s own error message on four attempts that afternoon, while its Aurelia page, its W page and a control brand opened normally in the same sitting. The brand is on it — four product records resolve with Ochre And Black Pvt Ltd as seller — but no catalogue size is given. Nykaa Fashion is similar: its landing page opens, the designer page beneath returns a not-found.

Stores, revenue and two founding years

The brand’s own About page claims 123-plus points of sale in India — 25 exclusive brand stores and over 98 large-format stores. That is its claim about itself, and the only brand-level store figure on the record.

ICRA’s counts are for the group, covering AND and Global Desi together, and they move sharply: 209 exclusive outlets and 798 large-format and multi-brand doors at 30 September 2023, and 81 and 365 at 30 November 2025. The same rationales record 503 underperforming locations closed in FY2024 and 119 more in nine months of FY2025. None of that is Global Desi’s alone.

Revenue is group-only too, and no figure for the Global Desi brand exists on anything read here. ICRA gives the group ₹438.9 crore in FY2024 and about ₹347 crore in FY2025, a fall it puts at about 21% year on year. A register mirror gives the parent company’s own FY2025 revenue as ₹367.55 crore. The two sit on different bases — one company against a consolidated group — and neither is the filing, so both stand. Dividing either by a store count would produce a number with nothing behind it. ICRA’s rating is an opinion about debt and not about clothes: ₹20 crore of facilities, reaffirmed at [ICRA]BBB-(Negative) on 9 January 2026 after a downgrade on 5 February 2025.

Two founding years sit on the record and both stay: the brand’s own About page says 2007, and all three ICRA rationales say 2009.

The advertising record

Nothing is filed under the name Global Desi with the Advertising Standards Council of India. That covers the brand name alone: “Ochre and Black”, “House of Anita Dongre” and “Anita Dongre” were not searched, and a parent often files under a name of its own, so the blank does not cover the company. Even at its narrowest it needs qualifying — the council is a self-regulatory industry body rather than a statutory regulator, and its file is built around objective claims of the sort clothing almost never makes.

Common questions

Who owns Global Desi?

The company answerable for the clothes is Ochre and Black Private Limited, CIN U18209MH2018PTC318048, an unlisted company incorporated on 10 December 2018 in Navi Mumbai. ICRA records that the House of Anita Dongre Private Limited transferred the AND and Global Desi businesses to it as a wholly-owned subsidiary by a board decision of 28 March 2019, and describes the group in February 2025 and January 2026 as wholly owned by the promoters, their relatives and family members. No annual return or shareholding pattern was readable for either company, so no percentage is given.

Is Global Desi part of the Aditya Birla group, like Aurelia and W?

No. Nothing in Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail’s acquisition release of 6 May 2023 or its results release of 25 May 2026 names Global Desi, and the seller of record on its Myntra listings is Ochre and Black Private Limited. The two brands sit together on the shelf and belong to different companies.

Does General Atlantic still hold a stake?

Nothing readable settles it either way. ICRA’s rationale of 31 January 2024 records that General Atlantic had nominated directors on the parent’s board; its rationales of 5 February 2025 and 9 January 2026 describe the group as wholly owned by the promoters and their families. Trade press reported a buy-back plan in November 2024. General Atlantic’s own investments page still carried the company on 7 September 2026, giving the year invested as 2013 with no exit date and no stake — and a portfolio page is not a holding.

Is Global Desi cheaper on its own website?

No, on the day read. globaldesi.in charged 65.2% of the higher published price in aggregate across 499 listings, against 53.3% of MRP across 685 Myntra listings and 55.1% across 297 on Ajio, all on 7 September 2026. Its own site also runs only four reduction percentages against Myntra’s 45 — and it never uses the word MRP, so a percentage off there is a percentage off a figure it calls an original price.

Where are Global Desi clothes made?

The declaration names who is legally answerable for the goods rather than the factory. Country of origin was declared India on all 120 Myntra records and 27 of 30 on the brand’s own site on 7 September 2026, with Ochre and Black named at its Rabale address on almost every one. Two shoulder bags on Myntra declare China, under a different company that imports them.

When was Global Desi founded?

Two answers exist and both are printed. The brand’s own About page, read on 7 September 2026, says 2007. All three ICRA rationales read here say the brand was launched in 2009. Nothing found settles it, so no single year is given.

The FA take

On the question worth asking of any ethnic-wear label — is there a company behind the name — Global Desi gives the tidiest answer in its peer group. One company on 117 of 120 marketplace declarations and on 30 of 30 on its own site, a style number and a fabric composition on every product page. At a median ₹1,345 charged on Myntra it is honestly priced, and the marketplace is where to buy it.

Two things deserve scepticism, and neither is the dress. The pricing on its own site is a grid of four numbers — 50%, 70%, 30% and one stray 53% — over a struck figure it never calls an MRP, with 32 products at 70% off inside a section headed up to 50%. And the ownership story usually told about this brand cannot be checked at all: two unlisted companies, no shareholding pattern readable at any date, and a rating agency’s sentence doing the work a filing should do.

Cleaner on the label than almost anything beside it and murkier above it — buy on Myntra or Ajio, and treat the sale rail on its own site as furniture.
